Beginning of Chaos

Miles slashed his axe and activated the Heavy Strike skill.

Seeing the axe approaching, Hans stepped back and leaned his upper body backwards. The axe passed by just inches in front of him.

'That would've chopped my head off.' he thought.

He took a huge step forward and hit Miles' side with Hard Fist.

Bam!

Miles was hit in his side.

He gripped the handle tightly and swung the axe with full force again but Hans blocked his arm with the Arm Block skill, stopping his attack.

Miles was put on a head lock and Hans gave him a powerful Iron Knee kick.

"Kwah!" he coughed out some blood as he tried to not lose his consciousness.

He saw a glimpse of Hans' side and used the handle of the axe to hit him, making sure that it was also empowered by the Heavy Strike skill.

Bam!

Hans was hit and from his expression, he was in so much pain. After all, a few of his ribs instantly broke with a single strike.

'Fuck! That hurts!'

Miles felt his body being lifted and with a swoosh, he was thrown and crashed into a wall.

"Stand up, We're not done yet." Hans said confidently but he put his hand on his side and how he walked shows that he was hurt.

Ptui!

Miles spat his blood to the floor before standing up.

After that, the two engaged in a fierce battle.

While Hans fights with his Fighter's Spirit activated, Miles could not only fight against him in an equal ground.

However, Hans was amazed at how tough Miles was.

'I need to end this before the Fighter's Spirit ends.'

He knew that Miles could overpower him the moment the buff effects of his skill was gone. Before that happens, he needs to end Miles.

He got hold of both of Miles' arms and Headbutted him.

Hans panted heavily as he observed Miles. He then drank some mana and health potions.

The guy was still breathing but he could no longer fight so he was relieved because the duration of the Fighter's Spirit just ended.

He approached Miles to end his life.

Meanwhile, Miles was cursing inside while lying on the floor.

'Damn, that hurts like hell.'

He tried to move but there was only a little energy left on his body.

'I need to kill this guy…but he's good…'

He heard the sound of footsteps approaching him.

'Ahh…I need to get up!'

At that moment, he felt a familiar shape pressing against his back. Simultaneously, the footsteps stopped and he felt Hans' presence very close to him.

"Good bye, kid." Hans took his stance and was ready to smash Miles' head.

Miles opened his eyes, swiftly took the gun behind him and shot Hans at the chest before he could even react.

Gathering all his remaining strength, Miles sat up and stared at Hans, who went on his knees as blood flowed out from his chest.

"You're lucky." Hans smiled faintly at Miles.

"I'm not, believe me." Miles responded.

He chugged in a few health potions while still pointing his gun at Hans, although it was slightly shaking due to Miles' fatigue.

"So, how does it feel like to die by the same gun you must've used to kill zombies and…even other people? Huh?" Miles asked.

Hans frowned as his HP continued to deplete.

"What are you saying? I did use it on humans but not on zombies."

"Huh?"

"Oh..right. You don't know."

"What?"

"Hehe…find it out yourself." Hans said and after that, his body fell onto the floor lifelessly.

Inside the small room, Samuel and David were staring at the woman who just appeared right in front of them after the door of the room mysteriously opened.

They only felt relief when she introduced herself as a friend of Miles.

"Are you really Miles' friend?" Samuel asked with doubt.

Julia just nodded.

"I'm Samuel and this is David."

"Hi."

Seeing that Julia was not that talkative, Samuel kept his silence.

He turned and met the remaining eye of David.

In the midst of the silence, the two talked.

'That Miles finally has the courage to talk to a lady.'

'I know, right? What a miracle. I should light some fireworks later. Wait, that's dangerous.'

The three heard the sound of fighting from the outside.

"Are you not going to help him?" David asked Julia.

She just lightly shook her head. "I want to but he said to guard you two. Plus, I trust that he can handle them just fine."

"Well…Is Miles strong?" David asked.

Julia gave a faint smile and nodded. "He is." She then began to tell them a brief story of how she and Michelle met Miles and a summary of the days that followed.

The two only showed shocked faces as they listened to her stories.

They now have an idea of what their friend has gone through for the past few days.

Just like them, he had a hard time surviving.

Their situations were different, but each one struggled to survive and had to endure things they haven't experienced in their whole lives.

Samuel and David were tortured and both reached half dead state.

Miles on the other hand, had to fight zombies just to find them and kill living humans just so he could stay alive.

They don't know how killing a normal human feels because they haven't done it, but they know it's a huge burden that a young man could not easily carry.

And hearing that Miles' goal was to find and save them, the two could not contain their emotions any more.

"Hah..that guy..seriously.." Samuel hid his eyes behind his hands.

David did the same for his one eye.

"Are you guys crying?" Julia asked.

"No..well, yes..but it's because Miles can finally talk to women." David lied after wiping his tears.

Julia raised her brows. "Oh? Tell me." She said curiously.

"Well, Miles is a bit shy in front of women." Samuel started.

"A bit?" David said. "You mean a lot. He could not even talk to the girls in our section, and they are not even as pretty as you, Miss Julia."

"Why is that?" Julia asked with curiosity.

David lightly shrugged. "I don't know. Maybe it's because he rarely interacts with women in his life. He plays games most of the time in his room after all and he only has male friends in school."

The three chatted in low voices while the sound of fighting outside continued.

Bang!

A gunshot echoed throughout the building.

Julia went alert and gestured to the two to be quiet.

After a few moments, someone knocked on the door.

"It's me."

"Miles.." Julia muttered and immediately opened the door.

On the other side, the bloodied state of Miles was revealed.

Julia went on and offered her shoulders to Miles.

"Are you alright?" she asked as she looked at the blood on his face with worry.

"Yeah. Thank you for guarding them. You guys can walk now?" he asked.

The two nodded and stood up. The few minutes of rest was enough for them to barely walk.

"Come on, let's get out of here." he said and separated himself with Julia before walking towards the entrance of the building, passing by the bodies of Hans and his men along the way.

Outside, the building was surrounded with men, making sure that no one escaped from their eyes.

"Are they going to kill that Danny guy?" a young man asked.

"What do you think? Of course they will." Another one butted in. "Right, Henry?"

A middle aged man with a leather jacket nodded. "Yes they will. I just hope that this ends quickly."

A few minutes after Hans as his team entered the building, a gunshot was heard.

"Shit! I told him not to use it carelessly." Henry cursed. "Stay here and watch. I'll go check inside." he told the men with him.

He jogged into the entrance but then, a few figures came out of the building and Henry knew that they weren't Hans or his men.

"Danny?" he asked. He knew Miles as Danny because he was one of the people that gave him a welcome a while ago.

"Where is Hans?" he continued. Still, he already has a good idea of what happened.

Miles gripped his axe tightly before answering straightforwardly, "Dead."

Henry stared at each one of them and whistled.

A few more men approached their direction and they immediately pointed their weapons at the four.

"What now, Miles? I can kill a few of them just fine." Julia whispered to Miles with confidence.

He just shook his head lightly and stared back at the men in front of him.

"You gonna take revenge?" asked Miles.

Henry gritted his teeth and told the men beside him, "Call the others. We should finish them. They must be tired right after fighting. We might have a chance."

"But they must have the gun of Hans. You know we can't do anything against that." the man replied with a huge concern and fear.

"Shit!" Henry cursed and pondered for a moment. He thought of something and turned to Miles. "Did you fire that gun?"

"Yes." Miles took the gun out from his back and pointed it at the men, who stepped back subconsciously.

Henry chuckled and spoke. "You've made a huge mistake, kid. Now, we're all in a deeper shit because of you."

Miles frowned and was a bit confused about what the guy was saying.

Samuel walked to him and whispered, "Miles, I think he's talking about the zombie that roars loudly and creates enraged zombies. The last time that gun was fired, a huge roar followed and we were swarmed by enraged zombies. We lost many people at that time."

"Enraged zombies?" Miles lowered the gun and stared at it.

The situation of the enraged zombies was a huge problem for them. They appear out of nowhere and give them a hard time everytime they fight.

There were only three times the enraged zombies appeared and two of them gave Miles a very stressful time.

"Miles, Michelle and the others are still outside." Julia informed Miles.

"Then let's finish these guys quickly and go to them." Miles said.

Julia nodded. "You should keep that gun for now. We don't want to attract any more zombies to our direction."

"Right." Miles was about to tuck the pistol back to his pants. However, he saw his two friends and passed the gun to Samuel. "Just stay here. Don't use it unless necessary. This will be over very quickly."

They nodded and Miles turned to Julia. "I'll go left, you go right."

Julia nodded and they went in the opposite direction.

"They're coming! Attack!" Henry shouted and he and the remaining men rushed to Miles and Julia.

However, what could fifteen level 6 and 7s do to a level 16 assassin and a man armed with a real weapon?

It only took less than a minute before the fight was over and the men's number did not prove to be of any advantage because they all died by the hands of the two.

As Miles and Julia stood surrounded by corpses, a huge roar sounded.

Raaahhhh!!!

Unlike the other times, it was louder and clearer.

"It's near." Miles said. "Let's check the outside if we can see William and the others."

The two ran to the wall and were ready to jump onto it when the gate where Miles entered suddenly burst open.

Boom!

"Damn!" Miles expected zombies to come out of the gate but then, a few familiar figures entered.

"William!" he shouted and rushed towards them.

William on the other hand just gestured to his team to get inside quickly.

After everyone was inside they immediately blocked the gate with heavy cabinets before the enraged zombies came rushing in.

Bam! Bam!

The zombies were slamming into the gate and the wall, trying to force their way inside.

As the shelves and cabinets shook, William turned to Miles. "That's not gonna hold them for long!"

They didn't have the time to greet each other because of the pressing matter at hand.

"It just needs to hold for one minute!" Miles replied.

"Miles! Miles!" Samuel and David came jogging towards Miles.

"What is it?"

"That wall won't hold for ten minutes! We should run away!" Samuel said.

"Ten minutes?" Miles was confused.

"Isn't it only one minute?" William asked Samuel. He quickly knew that they were the friends Miles wanted to rescue.

"No, it's always ten minutes." Samuel firmly said.

"Damn!" Miles said. "It should be because of the distance from that roaring zombie. The closer to him the longer the duration of the enraged state."

"And stronger too." Dante added. "These zombies were quicker and looked stronger than the enraged zombies we fought last time."

Right then, a man with binoculars came down the building and went to Miles. "Are you the one in charge now?" he asked meekly.

"Yes. Who are you?" Miles asked.

"James. I watch the surroundings of the building using these binoculars and I should inform you that there's a wave of zombies coming from the north gate and rushing towards here." the man with glasses reported.

Miles stared at the level 1 player with a frown.

"I just want to live. If this continues, we would all be overrun. I don't want to die yet." James explained with a bitter smile.

"Julia, take his binoculars and check the north gate. Report to me what you see. Be quick." Miles ordered.

"Okay." Julia took the binoculars before vanishing and rushing to the top floor.

"Brian, Sheila, go and rescue your friends. Lilia, Paul, go with them. Gather the people and evacuate to the highest floor of the building." William commanded.

"Yes!" they shouted and then left.

"David, Sammy, you should go with them." Miles said to his friends. They nodded and followed Brian's team.

"Let's buy them some time by holding the wall! We'll move after the people are secured!" William shouted and moved to push the huge furniture begging banged by the zombies outside. The others followed him.

In under a minute, Julia returned.

"It's true. There's a huge wave of zombies coming from the north gate. They will arrive in three minutes I guess." she reported to Miles.

"Okay. Thank you." Miles said and closed his eyes for a moment.

He then shouted. "William! We need to close those gates right now or else this wave won't end! Get to the building with the others! I will hold them as much as I can!"

"Got it! Dante, Julia, Michelle, Brent, you're with me! Helen, stay here and take care of Miles!" William shouted.

"No! Helen will go with you. But before that, could you heal me for a second?" Miles requested.

"Sure!" Helen quickly went to work.
