Roman slowly descended the stair rubbing his arm and rotating his shoulder. There is no pain whatsoever he thought to himself praising the work of the woman who took care of him. She must be quiet the doctor because this was almost magic, his gun shot wounds were gone leaving not even a scar on his skin. That is absurd it has not even been that long but Elizabeth and that other lady managed to heal my gunshot wounds and my knife wounds.
As I thought to myself about the great skills of the two women, a wonderful smell drifted to my nose, it was some sort of meat and it smelled tender and ready. I reached the last stair and entered an open room. The room was relatively small but a four person table sat in the middle of the room surrounded by chairs.
The smell of food got stronger as I approached the back of the room and as I did I could hear voices. It was Elizabeth and her grandmother, the old lady was standing over the pot and stirring while Elizabeth was chopping up something next to her. I stood behind them waiting for them to notice me, I wanted to thank them and let them know how appreciative I was but I couldn't communicate with them.
Elizabeth saw a figure out of the corner of her eye and spun around a little surprised by Roman's sudden appearance. "Oh my gosh, you scared me don't do that" she said as she clutched her chest. Charmaine turned around as well and eyed the boy warely. I had both of their attention now, they were waiting for me to say something but I couldn't, so I did the next best thing I could think of. I got down and bowed to them, this was a nearly universal way to show respect and gratefulness according to my memories, so even if I can't talk this should let them know I am thankful to them.
They waited for me to return to my feet before they began to question me but it was futile because I could not respond to their many questions. I didn't want it to seem like I didn't trust them but I was unable reply. I held up my hand indicating for them to stop with the questions and when they did I tried to sign to them. I put my right hand in the air and began to make a fluid motion to indicate writing, after doing this for a couple seconds Elizabeth caught on and got me a pencil as well as a notepad.
I wrote on the notepad telling them I was unable to speak and that I really appreciated their help nursing be back to life. Elizabeth blushed and smile while Charmaine said she was just trying to do a little bit of good. I also wrote to them asking what exactly they used to heal my wounds, when I asked this they looked at one another puzzled.
"We didn't put anything on your wounds, it's almost impossible to get any antibiotics or such nowadays without going to the hospital, all we did was clean the blood off you and bandage you up. Why are you in pain because we also don't have any painkillers either" Charmaine replied as she turned around to quickly stir the pot.
No quite the opposite actually, I feel remarkably good I wrote on the page. "What about your wounds they must hurt, and without proper treatment they won't get better any time soon" she said after reading the note. I shook my head and lifted up my shirt, showing them my wounds. Elizabeth made a sheepish sound and quickly turned around while Charmaine got closer.
"There isn't even a scar let from the bullet" she said surprised, it has not even been 12 hours she thought to herself. That is very strange, she thought curiously to herself and as she did something in the very back of her mind was tell her that this was way more than what it seemed but she paid that thought no attention.
After a little more questioning they decided it was time to eat, so they went back to the dining room and began. This was Roman's first meal and even thought it was not extravagant it was delicious. It was some sort of meat that was stewed in broth then cooked down, it had potatoes and carrots on the side with a serving of sorrel juice to go with it.
They ate in silence savoring the food and even after they were finished they just sat their in peaceful quiet. This was quite enjoyable, just sitting there and not worrying about anything. But this tranquility did not last long, an eerie and provoking feeling came over Roman and every fiber of his being was telling him that danger was coming at him. Roman's head turned quickly and his eyes darted around the room.
There was no sign of danger whatsoever, Roman shot up from his seat and readied himself for the incoming attack. Elizabeth and Charmaine noticed Roman's strange behavior and were about to questions him but Charmaine could see the intensity in Roman's eyes and slowly retreated taking Lizzy with her to the kitchen.
Almost as if on que a small black sphere rolled into the room followed by a silver canister which flew in behind it. Instinctively Roman flipped the dining table on it's side and dived behind it. There was a loud high pitched sound followed by a blinding light which was emitted from the black sphere and soon after the silver canister began to spin releasing a gray substance from within. What the hell is going on, I thought to myself as my ears started ringing making me slightly disoriented.
Who is attacking me and why I began to think, if I had to take a guess it is most likely Prometheus trying to recapture me but how did they find me, I thought. Before I realized it a thick gray mist had filled the room. The mist burned my eyes upon contact and forced tears to run from them, it was hard to collect myself with my ears ringing and my eyes watering but I tried my best to analyze what is going on around me.
Then I vaguely saw two shadows enter the room, I kept low to the ground and crept from behind the overturned table. I grabbed a knife off the floor and threw it at the closest shadow, the shadow must have been able to see through the mist because he caught it with relative ease and threw it back where it came from.
"Come quietly and we will try not to hurt you, but resist and we will beat you then drag you back there" said one of the shadows.
That must be some sort of a joke, the only way I am going back is in a body bag I thought to myself as I squinted harder against the mist. I could run upstairs but that wouldn't help me and I would just be confining myself in a smaller space, so that's not an option. I could definitely take them out but the only problem is this gas, my eyes are burning and my vision is limited. This was not going to be easy even if I can pull it off, there are only two of them so I just need to get rid of this gas.
I gripped one of the table legs and pulled snapping it of the table. There is light entering the room so there was probably a window somewhere, I just need to find it. I had a rough idea where it was but this was just a guess, I threw the table leg in the direction and I heard it hit the wall and bounce off.
The two shadows looked at one another wondering what I was trying to accomplish. I took another leg and threw it, this time there was a crashing noise and the sound of glass breaking. With the window open it is only a matter of time before the gas dissipates and before those two can stop me I better distract them.
They are about 24 feet from me based on how far away their voice sounded, so this should work but time was of the essence. I placed one of my hand underneath the table and another on top, I picked up the table and threw it at the shadowy figures and followed behind the table.
One of the figures dodged it by stepping to the side but the other did exactly what I expected, he caught the table and was going to place it down while but while his attention faltered for a split second I went to action sliding across the concrete floor and kicking his feet out from under him.
He fell hard on the floor and before he had a chance to recover, I delivered a kick straight to his face from the floor breaking his nose and his glasses. I quickly stood up but before I could attempt to finish him an attack came from my right side which I barely dodged but resulted in a cut on my palm. I still couldn't see very well but atleast the gas was slowly clearing out.
The shadow stood up and shook his head "what a pain, I am going to have to get these replaced" said Gray as he removed his glasses and threw them unto the floor, he grabbed a knife from his waist and narrowed his eyes at his target. The two shadows now stood in front of me both armed with knifes, my back was now facing the door but if I turn to try and escape they would without a doubt capture me. So I had to fight my way out.
The one on my left (Gray) attacked first swinging his knife at my chest, I stepped back a little out of reach and his swipe fell short. I grabbed his wrist with my left hand as he was recoiling and pulled him towards me, using my right hand I was about to attack him again but the other (Red) intervened and stabbed his knife into my thigh.
I attempted to scream as an intense pain ran down my leg, but nothing came out. I released Gray and staggered backwards clutching my leg, my head began to spin, the pain was almost unbearable but it was not all bad atleast now I have a weapon. I grabbed the knife handle and started pulling but I had to release it right away, the pain intensified as I tried to remove the knife.
"Yeah, I wouldn't do that if I were you. The blade's edge is serrated and if you try to remove it, you'll tear out alot of your flesh" said Red as he took another blade from his waist.
Then I felt a sharp stinging pain from my back but there was nothing there, I must have been hallucinating from the pain I thought to myself. My body began getting slower and slower but I didn't stop, I kept fighting the two shadows but it was an uphill battle.
Each time I successfully landed an attack on one the other would stab me and get another blade from their waist. Soon, I was completely covered in knives, I had them all over my body except for my vital areas. I had seven knives in my right thigh and six in the other, I had five knives in my left shoulder and three in my right. I put my hands up ready to attack again but as I stepped forward my eyelids became like lead then forced themselves shut and I lost consciousness, I began falling but the two shadows caught me before I landed on the ground.
The black sphere was a flash bang, which emits a blinding light and loud sound to incapacitate targets. And the canister was tear gas.
All night raid members are resistant to the tear gas from extended exposure meaning they can see through it fine.
