The sound of metal striking metal rang through the vast and open fields of the Northern Plains.

Two boys stood in an open field, nearby a small camp with tents made from green cloth. One of the boys slashed the arms of the other with a sword, the sword bouncing off. These two boys were naturally Wei Huan and Hei Gang.

Wei Huan jumped towards Hei Gang's side, barely dodging a punch. Wei Huan slashed towards Wei Gang's sides attempting to pierce the Spider Carapace upon his skin.

After a few bouts, both of the boys began panting and breathing heavily, their knees shaking and head hung low.

"I think this i-is enough." Hei Gang said, still panting,

Wei Huan merely walked towards one of the tents and sat down near it, leaning on the stakes pierced into the ground holding up the tent. Wei Gang soon followed him sitting next to him, looking upwards at the evening sky.

"I'm sick of staying here at the camp..." Wei Huan spoke, his breath ragged yet calm compared to just a few moments earlier

"Yeah, If I see these green tents one more time, I'm going to burn them down" Hei Gang agreed, nodding his head,

"Wei Jia let's Hei Lin and Hei Luo run around fighting beasts and we just have to stay here and spar with eachother, it's been a month since we've been doing this" Wei Huan complained,

"Maybe he'll let us fight beasts too once we reach the halfway mark in the succession trial.." Hei Gang said, with a small hint of hope in his eyes,

"Don't get too optimistic, you'll be disappointed for sure. I don't have any faith in that guy." Wei Huan chided,

"Have some faith in your elders man, Big Brother Wei Jia doesn't seem too unreasonable." Hei Gang retorted,

"I'm a month older than you, have some faith in me aswell." Wei Huan replied,

"Whatever, I'm too tired to fight. Let's just try to find a boar or something to cook." Hei Gang said,

"Yeah, let's find some boar in a couple minutes." Wei Huan spoke, staring at the evening sun.

Wei Huan and Hei Gang sat on the grass of the Northern Plains, looking at the sky, simply talking and resting.

"I'm ready to fight some boar. Gonna come with me or not?" Wei Huan said, while standing up,

"Why are you so energetic?" Hei Gang spoke exasperatedly, still sitting down. Wei Huan looked at him and spoke, feeling annoyed:

"We're late stage gu master's man, are we weak or what?"

"Just stand up and come with me."

Hei Gang slowly stood up, sighing and shaking his head. Hei Gang followed Wei Huan, walking towards a boar which appeared as a brown dot in the horizon.

They slowly crept through the tall grass which reached their waists, reaching the boar. The boar, noticing their presence slowly walked backwards. Hei Gang lunged towards the boar, grabbing it's tusks, giving Wei Huan and opportunity to strike.

Wei Huan used the Dark Sword which he had previously summoned. He soon stabbed the boar in it's eyes, the sword immediately piercing through and reaching it's brain. The boar instantly died.

Hei Gang grabbed the boar, putting it on his shoulders using his Beetle Strength Gu once again. Hei Gang and Wei Huan walked towards the camp once again.

As they got closer to the camp, they saw a campfire already lit, with three people sitting around it.

"You guys finally back?" Wei Huan said,

"Yeah, we just killed a Grassy Rock Toad" Hei Lin replied,

"Yeah, have fun killing beasts while we chase around boars" Wei Huan grumbled under his breath,

Hei Luo simply smiled and pretended to not hear. Wei Jia looked at the boys and spoke:,

"Now, now, everyone will get their chance."

"Alright" Wei Huan spoke, suppressing his frustration.

During the month which the boys had been outside the village, they split into two distinct groups, the lower talents and the higher talents. Naturally Wei Huan and Hei Gang were the lower talents as they were C grades while Hei Lin and Hei Luo were high talents as they were A grades.

A small rivalry had formed between these two groups because of the fact that the higher talents were allowed to hunt beasts while Wei Huan and Hei Gang were not allowed to do so.

Naturally these boys were still friends however they were merely split up which led them to form groups among eachother.

Wei Huan lifted the boar above the campfire, impaling it with a sharp stick and balancing it upon a wooden structure. This routine had repeated itself every single day for every single meal in the past month.

Hei Luo lit up the fireplace using his gu worms. The boar was slowly cooked and the boys slowly passed time by talking.

As the boar finished cooking, Wei Huan and the others began to eat.

They had eaten boar almost everyday for the last month. Only on special occasions would they cook and eat Rank 1 beasts. Wei Huan dreaded the taste of the boar as it entered his mouth, the familiar gamey taste filling his tastebuds.

The boys slowly walked towards their tents, sleeping through the night.

They did not notice the pair of eyes staring at them through the fog of the Northern Plains.
