A fire broke out

That night Levhon and the others secretly met with General Emrys and his men. They finalized the plan and agreed on a place where they will stay for the mean time. After all the preparations were made, Endo's family also joined them. They were escorted by the general's men until they reached a hidden exit within the general's land. It took them at least half a night to reach the passaged since they took a long detour to make sure that no one was following them.

The group rested on a small shed meant for the border guards guarding the passage and the border. It was a little bit difficult to move during the night but they need to so that they can be at least a few miles away from Westdenn by daybreak.

They were about to completely leave the city but at that moment a group of angry suddenly immerged from the shadows and blocked their path. "They were right, remnants are actually escaping from here." One of the men announced.

Levhon stood in front of them and frowned. No one was supposed to know about this way, he began to doubt the general at the appearance of these people.

"What are you doing here? This is the General Emrys's property you are all trespassing!" One of the guards escorting them stepped in front and glared at the people blocking their path. He was right, they are still inside the general's property.

"We don't care! That general had been colluding with criminals and is even helping them escape, do you think we will let this matter pass!?" another man angrily shouted and the others seconded this statement.

"If that is what you believe then we will not show you all any mercy. Accusing the general and trespassing inside his property can be punishable by death," the guard readied his weapon to fight. The general had given the strict instruction to see that the remnants can leave Westdenn safely. They believe in the general and would follow his words without a doubt.

Seeing the commotion, Levhon was relieved that General Emrys did not betray them but another problem came to light. Someone leaked the information about what the general was doing. He looked at the people behind him and slightly moved his head to the side.

They moved back slowly and stood a little bit farther away and stood behind the guards who moved forward to face the angry people. One of the guards with them, walked towards them and stood beside them.

"We will create an opening for you, take that time to leave and we will take care of the rest. Some guards will still follow you to ensure that you reach your destination safely." The guard whispered and gave the other guards to be on high alert.

One of the people blocking the way saw the guard and the escaping people having a silent conversation and suddenly shouted. "They're planning to leave!"

After this shout, the people became angrier and started to become more aggressive. They moved and attempted to close in on Levhon and the others but the guards were faster than them and prevented them from further approaching them.

In an instant a skirmish happened and the guards did their best to stop them and create an opening for them. When they saw an opportunity, they took the chance to pass them and run towards the carriage waiting for them. The angry mob saw this and some of them forcefully wrenched themselves away from the guards and run after the group.

Before they could reach them, another group of people clothed in black obstructed their path. The people running after them became more indignant and fought these people. Dreigh and the others continued to run until they saw a familiar man standing beside the carriage.

"Run faster, we need to move!" Mr. Mazir urged them and one by one they entered the carriage. The driver immediately let the carriage run at the fastest speed it could use.

They did not dare to put their guards down, the sudden turn of events had caught them by surprise. "The general's manor is in a mess right now. The officials had discovered about him helping the remnants and they brought a lot of people to confront the general." Mr. Mazir explained as he looked at the place where they came from.

He let Dreigh and the others head to the general's manor and would meet them at the exit of the hidden path. The moment they reached the manor, they saw a lot of angry people on the entrance and he was stunned at the scene. It never occurred to him that someone would betray the general and leak about this information. His group managed to avoid the commotion and reached the meeting place safely but not the same could be said with Levhon's group. They were extremely lucky to be able to pass that group of people.

"Is it alright to leave your men out there?" Levhon asked Mr. Mazir after he was able to steady his breath.

"It's okay. They'll also leave Westdenn once they are done dealing with those people. I am confident of their skills," he answered calmly. The men in black who helped them escape were his most trusted men. He instructed them to immediately leave Westdenn after they make sure that no one would be able to follow them.

"I think someone had betrayed the general," Rond spoke out inside the silent carriage as he slightly moved to look at them. It was a little bit uncomfortable since they were crowded inside but the matter at hand was more important.

This was the guess of everyone but they cannot think of a person who would betray the general. Even the guards with them were ready to give their lives in order to fulfill the general's command.

"No one on our side would dare to betray the general," one of the guards who escaped with them spoke. "All personnel within the general's control are loyal only to him, everyone of us works under him because of the things he had done for us and besides before anyone can work for the general a strict investigation about their background and character to avoid any acts of betrayals," he further explained.

The group understood the implication of these words, if no one from the general's side had leaked the information, then the spy is within their group. They were loath to think of the prospect but the more they think about it the more the possibility of it being true.

Before they talked with the general, all was still a secret and the moment they decided to leave Westdenn this thing suddenly happened. If it was a coincidence, then it is one hell of a coincidence that somebody discovered about it. But the possibility of General Emrys helping remnants leave Westdenn to be accidently discovered was close to none because the information was only within his household that is after they came into the picture.

No one wanted to speak about this possibility in fear of causing dissent between them but even without any of them voicing it out, the tension suddenly rose exponentially inside the carriage. The guard with them felt the sudden change in the atmosphere and coughed twice.

"It is no use thinking about it now. The important thing is that we are able to leave without anymore problems and the general will handle those officials. You don't need to worry about anything, we just need to focus on this journey until you all reach the agreed the place." The guard pacified them with his words but it only worked a little bit. There was still tension and no one spoke.

Arthur had started to observe everyone's reactions and mannerisms for a while now and got a good guess on who the spy was, but he did not want to say it yet. It might cause more trouble for them. It is better to confront the person after they are out of Westdenn's territory.

He closed his eyes and covertly sent out some of his wind spirits outside to guard the fast moving carriage. "The guard is right. We can settle this matter once we reach a safe place. What matters now is that we get as much rest as we need." He spoke with closed eyes which made the others silently agreed. The tension was eased once again and the guards with them were also relieved. They thought that an argument would suddenly break out and they were glad that none of them was keen on fighting.

When everyone was finally able to put their minds at ease a sudden explosion hit the side of the carriage causing it to lose control and be toppled on the ground. A series of explosion hit the carriage until nothing could be seen except for a thick cloud of dust and smoke. Some of the carriage's parts were also burning bright because of the sudden attack. Several shadows came out behind from the trees and bushes to check is they hit the target.

"Truth will surely hurt but the hurt can heal and be forgiven. Betrayal will hurt more and not easily forgiven."

P.S. Update! I got sick and was not able to write a decent chapter but I repaired that error. Thank you everyone for being patient with me. :)
