Fabled Susanoo Act 1

Syndel cut her hair short, so she wouldn't be recognized and both dyed their hair black. He dumped the armor along with the warped sword from the excess heat caused by Ragnarök. Gavriel, one of Cedrus' diplomats, gave them a lift to the mountainous country Cloven. Known for its towering peaks, deep valleys, and rugged terrain. The landscape is dotted with picturesque villages, dense forests, and sparkling rivers and streams. The majority of the population lives in small, scattered communities that are scattered throughout the mountains, and they are known for their self-sufficiency and strong sense of community. The people of Cloven are a mix of different races, including beastkin, elves, humans, and others. They have found a way to coexist in harmony, despite their different cultures and backgrounds. Before they left though, they were both granted citizenship in the passing countries.

"We're here." The driver said as they pulled into the first town, Lightcrest.

Lightcrest is a small, peaceful town nestled at the base of two towering mountains. Despite its remote location, the town is well-known for its skilled armorers and tailors, many of whom are retired adventurers themselves. The town's close proximity to the mountains means that it's a popular starting point for those looking to explore the rugged terrain, and as such, the locals are used to seeing a steady stream of adventurers passing through. The town is also steeped in local legends and lore, with many of the townspeople sharing stories of the strange and mysterious creatures said to inhabit the mountains. Despite its small size, Lightcrest is a bustling and lively place, with a strong sense of community and a friendly, welcoming atmosphere. The streets are lined with quaint, cozy shops and inns, and the local tavern is always filled with lively conversation and laughter. The town is surrounded by scenic hiking trails, and there is a lot of opportunities for outdoor activities like camping, rock climbing, and fishing. Lightcrest is a wonderful place to experience the beauty and tranquility of the mountains.

"Alright, let's do some small quests then ask around. I want to make this as quick as possible." Syndel said as they walked over to the quest board.

"Look at this, it's a gathering quest. It's just outside town in the forest, should run into other adventurers while we're out, we can ask about any weird weather phenomenoms."

They took the gathering quest and set out on the adventure ahead.

"You think we should go to New Augustine after we're done here. I'm sure that demon has more answers. Plus, we're more at risk staying in these countries.." Kendell said, as they walked along the rugged path picking herbs off bushes and shrubs.

"We can, but I do want to stay a little longer, this town is peaceful." Syndel replied.

"Okay, so we're on the same page then. Look up, it's gotten very cloudy, perhaps the rain is rolling around. We should make haste and head back soon." Kendell spoke as he grabbed the final herbs off the shrub.

They headed back to the city and made it to the guild when the rain began.

"Very nice haul, people refuse to pick herbs, so you're truly doing God's work. We'll have your payment out right away!" Rosa, the guild attendant said.

They received two-hundred and forty gold for the quest since they managed to do two at once.

The rain picked up, they ran across the street to the town's Inn and Tavern, getting a room for one.

As Syndel and Kendell sit at the tavern in Lightcrest, enjoying their drinks and discussing the day's gathering quest, they start to overhear murmurs of a new and mysterious group known as the Blackwood Collective. Some of the patrons at the tavern speak of strange sightings in the forest, and rumors of powerful magic being used by the Collective to control the wildlife and gather resources at an alarming rate.

An older tall man, thin figured with a thick beard speckled with gray. His clothes, stained with the smell of liquor. He stumbled as he approached Syndel and Kendell, his breath reeking of alcohol. He slurred his words introducing himself as Jack, and proceeded to tell them about a group of people who call themselves the Free World.

"Aye lads, listen to me well, the Free World are a group of brave individuals who have dedicated their lives to fighting against a mysterious force known as the Shadow. They come from all walks of life, and are united by their desire to protect the innocent and defend the land from the Shadow. I've heard rumors that the Free World is currently recruiting new members, and I suggest that you two should consider joining their cause." He stumbled backwards, catching himself before bumping into a passing waitress.

Syndel and Kendell take this information with a grain of salt, knowing that Jack is drunk and his information might not be entirely accurate. However, they decide to look into it further and ask around the town to see if they can find any more information about the Free World. They decide to keep this information to themselves for the moment, not wanting to spread rumors that may or may not be true.

The barmaid came over, escorting Jack to a seat at the bar.

"Take that with a grain of salt, his words aren't always accurate. But what he says about the Free World is true. And steer clear of the Royal Family in Luminaria, at all costs." She spoke, walking away.

"Before you go, what is your name?" Syndel asked.

"Samantha, it's a pleasure to meet you. Would you like a refill?" She said bowing.

"Yes, please." They both replied.

The two went to the door and saw the rain was picking up,"it's raining kind of hard now, let's check back in the morning. I don't want to get sick."

"You know, the rain started just like this on that day in Matiy." Syndel retorted, they headed upstairs to their room and retired for the night.

"It's going to be fine. Let's get some rest and worry about it tomorrow." Kendell spoke, as he pulled off his shirt.

Syndel nodded, and the two went to sleep. But the rain just kept falling. The rain slacked up a bit into a light drizzle early that morning. Kendell woke up earlier than Syndel and went down to order breakfast for the two of them, the tavern was quiet around this time. The crackling of the fire place is all that made noise. Kendell returned upstairs with their orders. Syndel rolled over in bed, it seemed she had been up for a moment before Kendell returned.

"Oh, you're finally up, I got some breakfast for us. Let's eat."

The two ate and got ready to leave, but the rain picked up as the day went on. It was way too wet for them to pick up guild requests, so they decided it would be best to look over the documents regarding the World Powers.

"Right here, there's something about abrupt rainstorms being spotted some time a few years ago. But it's been so long since then, this description is probably outdated. How long is this rain supposed to last?" Syndel asked.

"The bartender Ellia said it should clear up around lunchtime, I wonder if they have umbrellas."

They got dressed in rain-appropriate cothes and headed down. Syndel approached the Inn desk, "do you all have umbrellas?"

"We do. Would you like two or one?"

"One is fine, thank you." He handed the umbrella to Syndel and they made it to the door, "if you're willing to pay, Lightcrests' tailor is the best on this side of the country and he's known for making fine coats."

"Thank you, we'll be sure to check him out."

"Very well, let's do that first, and then we can run down to the guild."

As Kendell entered the tailor's shop, the man behind the counter looked up and asked, "What can I get for you today?" Despite the tailor's height advantage, Kendell confidently pulled out a detailed drawing of a raincoat he wanted crafted. The tailor's eyes lit up as he examined the design. "Is this yours?" he asked, impressed. "I would love to create this free of charge! But only if you'll allow me to make a third for myself. I feel like I could really spruce up the blueprint if you'll allow it." Kendell agreed, and the tailor took both their measurements before starting the work. "I'll be done by four. Please, come back soon!" the tailor said with a smile as Kendell and Syndel left the shop.

They walked down to the guild, and it was very quiet although there were a heavy amount of people inside today. "It's nice to have you two back, what will it be today?" Rosa asked.

"We actually came to ask Gil some questions, if he's available." Rosa nodded.

"Wait in his office, I'll call him over."

They walked inside and sat in front of the large wooden desk, the sweet smell of maple was strong and there was something about the silence within the office.

"So, what're we asking?"

"Firstly, what that old guy and the others were talking about. The Blackwood Collective for starters, and secondly the Free World. I think that's what he said.

Gil walked into the office with a mug of black coffee and a newspaper. He sat at the desk and turned his attention to them.

"I heard you had some questions, regarding this country. I'll answer anything I might know the answer to." He said, taking a sip of coffee after every other word.

"Lastnight in the tavern, we overheard something about an organization called the Blackwood Collective, what do you know about them?"

"The Blackwood Collective is a dangerous organization," Gil replied. "They operate in the shadows and are rumored to be involved in all sorts of illegal activities, from black market trade to beastkin trafficking. They have a strong grip on West Cloven, and their reach is growing. It's not wise to mess with them."

"And what about the Free World?" Syndel asked.

"The Free World is a coalition of independent countries, united under a single banner to stand against the tyranny of the larger powers. It was formed by King August of New Augustine, and it's a noble cause. The Free World is a beacon of hope for those who seek freedom and justice."

"King August?" Kendell inquired.

"King August has played a big role in bringing the Free World Alliance together and maintaining peace between the different countries and factions. He's a strong leader, and people trust him to make the right decisions for the good of the world."

"But I always thought that the Black Bloods were bad-"

"The Black Blooded Elves have a negative reputation among many people in this world. There are those who see them as a threat to society, and believe that their magical abilities are dangerous and should be controlled or eliminated. They're often seen as an outcast and untrustworthy, and many people fear their dark, mysterious powers.

As for New Augustine, it's said to be the home of demons and the dark arts. Some people believe that it's a place of evil and corruption, where magic is used for dark purposes. There are stories of dark rituals and sacrifices being performed there, and many people view it with suspicion and fear.

"Yes, the Black Bloods are a powerful people, with their mastery of nature magic and light magic. However, they're still considered second to the Children of the Sun and Moon, who are considered to be the most powerful in terms of magic prowess. The Children of the Sun are known for their mastery of fire, light, and arcane magic, while the Children of the Moon are known for their mastery of water magic, earth magic, and darkness magic."

"But despite their strength, the Black Bloods are often seen in a negative light by others, but it just comes down to blatant racism at that point." Gil continued. "The country of New Augustine, which is said to be the home of the demons, is thought of as a dark and foreboding place, and those who live there are often viewed with suspicion and fear. However, it's important to remember that these views are often based on rumors and legends, and may not necessarily reflect the reality of the situation. Not everyone in New Augustine is a demon, the Black Blood Elves aren't evil. It's important to keep an open mind and not make assumptions based on hearsay or stereotypes. And as someone who has met August and been to the country, it's a wartorn country but it's regaining its beauty one step at a time."

Syndel's eyes widened at the mention of the Children of the Sun. She had heard about them from her father, who had told her stories about their great power and the legendary battles they had fought. She was curious about the Children of the Sun and was eager to learn more about them from Gil.

"The Children of the Sun, really? I've heard stories about them from my father. What can you tell me about them?" she asked, her tone filled with excitement and wonder.

"Well, the Children of the Sun are a legendary group of mages who wield the power of the sun itself. They're known for their bravery and their unwavering devotion to justice. They're said to have played a crucial role in many battles throughout history, and are revered as heroes by many. However, they're also feared by some, who believe that the power they wield is too dangerous to be entrusted to anyone," Gil explained.

Syndel listened intently, her mind racing with the possibilities of what she could learn from these legendary warriors.

"And of course, there are the Children of the Sun," Gil continued. "They are known for their mastery over the elements. They're said to be the most powerful spellcasters in the world and are virtually unmatched in terms of magic abilities. There are even legends that suggest they've moved to an entirely different world. But of course, that's just a rumor and we can't be certain if it's true or not."

The idea that they could control the sun itself seemed almost too incredible to believe. "Have you ever seen one of the Children of the Sun?" she asked, her voice tinged with excitement.

Gil chuckled. "No, I haven't. And I doubt many people have. They're incredibly rare and their existence is shrouded in mystery. But their power is undeniable and the mere mention of their name can bring fear to those who oppose them. The world is a strange and fascinating place, isn't it?"

"Well, I think that's all I know about the Children of the Sun," Gil said, closing the book in front of him. "I hope that answers your questions."

"Yes, it does," Syndel said, getting up from her seat. "Thank you, Gil."

Just as they were about to leave the office, they heard a loud noise from outside. It was a commotion in the street and they could hear someone shouting.

"What's going on?" Syndel asked, looking out the window.

"Let's go see," Gil said, heading for the door.

They stepped outside and saw a crowd of people gathered around a woman who was shouting and waving her arms. Syndel and Gil pushed their way through the crowd to see what was happening.

"What's the problem?" Syndel asked a woman standing near her.

"That woman is causing a scene," the woman said. "She's been shouting about some sort of injustice."

As they approached the woman, her clothes wet and covered in blood from her hands to her boots. She was tall and busty, with long dark hair pulled back into a braid. She wore a leather jacket and pants, and her eyes were blazing with anger. "Gil, I need to speak to you now," the woman said, her voice tight with frustration.

"Rene, what's going on?" Gil asked, his expression dropped immediately when he noticed all the blood. His own expression began to mirror hers.

"What happened?" Syndel asked.

"The diplomat from Cedrus, Gavriel Wolfsbane was murdered. As it stands, there are only a few explanations. The bandits here wouldn't dare target a country official, let alone, a diplomat of such a powerful country. This is a tragedy, the high council of Cedrus have been alerted. But for the time being, my initial investigation has hit a wall. I'm sure you know this already pops."

Gil's face turned to one of shock as he heard the news. He knew the significance of the situation, and how it could have far-reaching consequences. "Let's go back to the office," he said, putting a hand on Rene's shoulder.

Syndel and Kendell followed them back inside, closing the door behind them. Gil sat down at his desk and leaned back in his chair, rubbing his chin thoughtfully. "What do you think happened?" he asked Rene.

Rene's face was tight with anger and frustration. "I don't know yet," she said. "But I'll find out. I need your help, Gil. You know the politics of this city better than anyone, and I need to get to the bottom of this."

Gil nodded, his eyes thoughtful. "I'll do what I can," he said. "But we need to be careful. This could be a dangerous situation, and we need to make sure that we're not putting ourselves in harm's way."

Syndel watched the two of them as they talked, feeling a sense of unease in the pit of her stomach. She knew that they were walking into dangerous territory, but she also knew that they were the only ones who could get to the bottom of this.

Kendell and Syndel stepped out of the office, both deep in thought about what Rene had just told them. They walked in silence for a few minutes, before Kendell finally broke the silence.

"What do you make of all this?" he asked, his brow furrowed in concern.

Syndel sighed heavily. "It's a mess, that's what it is," she said. "I can't believe Gavriel was murdered like that. And in broad daylight, no less."

"I know. It's a shame. Is this what Kayin meant? It seems like it's only going to become more complicated. Kendell agreed.

"But what's even more concerning is that Rene is having trouble investigating. That doesn't bode well," Syndel continued.

Kendell nodded. "Yes, I agree. I wonder if there's more to this than just a simple assassination."

"That's exactly what I was thinking," Syndel said, her eyes narrowing. "I have a feeling that there's a larger conspiracy at play here."

Kendell sighed. "It wouldn't surprise me. There are always power struggles going on behind the scenes. And with Gavriel being a diplomat from Cedrus, there's no telling who might want him dead."

Syndel nodded. "Exactly. And the fact that Rene is having trouble investigating just adds to my suspicion. We need to be careful and keep our eyes open. This could get dangerous."

"Agreed," Kendell said, determination in his voice. "We'll get to the bottom of this, no matter what."

The rain outside picked up, Rene, sat frustrated in Gil's office. She had not yet lost hope though.

The three of them spent the next several hours discussing the situation, trying to piece together what had happened and what their next steps should be. As they worked, Syndel couldn't help but feel a sense of determination growing inside her. She was determined to find out what had happened to Gavriel Wolfsbane and to make sure that justice was served.

"It totally slipped my mind, we should get back to the tailor." Kendell remembered.

The two of them slipped out of the guild and walked down to the tailor's shop.

They walked back down to the tailor's shop, he was done with both of the raincoats.

"Just in time!"

Kendell tried on the raincoat, and it fit perfectly, realizing the interior had been reinforced with fur and leather to keep warm.

"This is great, thank you so much. I'd like to pay you for this though, this mustn't go unpaid."

"Oh no, no, this design alone is more than enough. Although, if you'd like to submit any other clothing blueprints, I'll make them as soon as possible. I've never seen such intricate design with clothing in all sixty-one years of my life!"

"I'll bring more, it's been awhile. Syndel, try this on."

Syndel slipped the coat on and looked at Kendell, he smiled at her, and they shared a moment of silence.

"I like it. Thank you so much." Syndel said to the tailor.

They took the raincoats out for a spin and returned the umbrella to the tavern people stared at the coats in curiosity. Returning upstairs, they waited for dinner time. They came back downstairs to eat dinner, they sat at a corner table in the tavern, eagerly digging into their steaming plates of lamb steak and rice. The savory aroma wafted around them, and they both agreed that Samantha was one of the best barmaids in all of Cloven.

"This is so delicious," Kendell said with a mouthful of food. "I don't think I've ever tasted anything like this before."

"It's definitely worth the wait," Syndel agreed, wiping her mouth with a napkin.

Just as they were settling into their meal, they heard a soft rap on the door and looked up to see Rene standing in the doorway, looking refreshed and ready for action.

"Mind if I join you?" Rene asked, walking over to the table in a fresh set of clothes.

"Of course not," Syndel said, gesturing to the empty chair beside her.

"We kind of met suddenly so I didn't get to introduce myself properly, my name is Rene Ayele. I'm a detective and aventurer from North Deiden. As you know, I'm currently here because of another investigation I'd been hot on for the past few months. But, now this has come to the forefront. I'm aware of who you two are and I know you're undercover, I'll keep that unknown to others. And I'm sorry about your father, Alcolf sends their regards." Rene spoke out, bowing in front of her before taking a seat.

As they ate and talked, Rene explained in more detail what she had learned about Gavriel's murder.

"It was strange," Rene said. "Gavriel was a powerful diplomat, and he would have been a valuable asset to any nation. He had a giant hole in his stomach with his innards half way out. I have no idea how he managed to stay alive with something that serious. It was almost like someone with decades of skill killed everyone on board and left him to die. I don't know what to think about it, but also. He muttered a phrase to me in a language I couldn't understand. Ever since then, I've been having these weird occurences where my body begins producing water by itself. I feel a certain connection to water, everything I've been coming into contact with; I remember memories that are not my own." Rene spoke, softly.

Syndel's eyes lit up with understanding. "Susanoo?"

"Come upstairs, I think we might have answers to your current issue." Kendell spoke, as he wrapped up their table and paid for the meal. They went upstairs to the room they'd been staying in.

"So, this is the World Power Susanoo. It's not activating crazy how Ragnarök did. There hasn't been anything about this for around fifteen years. I think that's a good start. But, how do we know you won't completely flood this entire town if your emotions go south?"

Rene looked puzzled at the question.

"Wait, so is this rain your doing?" Kendell asked, approaching Rene.

She began getting flustered and walked backwards towards the door.

"I'd think it be best if we didn't get too close to eachother for now." Syndel realized what was going on with Rene and agreed.

"Fine fine."

"Now, how do I go about controlling this?" Rene asked.

"That's the problem, it's different with everyone. For me, it was keeping my emotions in check. I still struggle with overwhelming emotion from time to time but it's a learning process." Syndel added.

"For Ragnarök, I have to keep my anger in check and not get worked up. It still activates unconsciously at times but I've managed to get it to a level that's not dangerous."

Kendell nodded in agreement, "It's different for everyone. You just need to find what works for you. Just remember, controlling your emotions is key." Rene looked down at her hands and the rain started to slow. "I'll try my best. It's just, this is all so new to me. I never thought I'd have a world power." Syndel placed a hand on Rene's shoulder, "It's a lot to take in, but you'll get the hang of it. Just remember, with great power comes great responsibility."

Kendell laughed and nodded, "I haven't heard that phrase in years, but you're one of the chosen few, and it's an honor. But, it's also a big responsibility."

Rene looked up at them, determination in her eyes, "I understand. I won't let you down."

Syndel smiled, "I have no doubt that you won't. We'll help you every step of the way."

Kendell added, "That's right. And we'll catch the person who murdered Gavriel too.."

Rene nodded, "Thank you, both of you. I don't know what I'd do without your support."

Syndel and Kendell shared a look, and they both knew that they would do anything to help Rene, no matter what it takes. They had a job to do, and they were determined to see it through to the end.
