First Intermission

Perhaps it was because of the light, the full image of a person in the middle showed. It was a woman with an above-average face that would turn at least seven heads out of ten people in the streets. She was wearing office attire, although both her and her clothes appeared like a hologram that could not be touched. A smile adorned her face. Before she shut her eyes tightly, her waist bent to give the guide a bow.

A moment later, Zhang Mei Xing disappeared from there and the room became completely devoid of her presence... like she had never shown up there in the first place.

However, the floating pair of clothes standing before the portal of light remained there, unfazed. The guide watched as the room slowly returned to normal. The blinding source of light disappeared.

Silence reigned.

However, something changed in the guide occurred a couple of moments after the woman left.

Now in his place was a handsome man with black hair, brown eyes, and pure white wings seemingly made of white energy stood with his back straight. The clothes that initially looked odd from floating by themselves earlier now could no longer look more handsome and fit for him.

"Such a waste of time." It was a complaint. It was the same voice.

But his voice that reverberated was even more pleasant than the most classical piano masterpieces and it stayed like that even though it sounded a bit cold and sharp this time.

The man truly looked out-and-out an angel.

Even though a frown momentarily appeared on his face, the man's presence radiated such imposing quality into it that would have awed Zhang Mei Xing so much if she were still here. Her mouth might even fall open because the one she spoke to was impossibly good-looking. That was, of course, if her eyes could afford to be blinded by the appearance of the other, literally.

Now, this imposing person was talking to the air.

And surprisingly somebody replied to him in an imperious tone. "Tell me what you discovered."

"Nothing much." Liu Yang, the guide in charge of Zhang Mei Xing, spoke. A real guide was not one to easily reveal their emotions. So now, gone was the excited look that he faked before the girl, replaced by the calmness that just fit right with his image.

"The examinee just now is totally normal and, if I may be blunt in my judgment, I think it is truly unfair to give her that opportunity considering the fact that the slots are limited yet the qualified souls are many."

"I know," said the other party after a couple of moments of silence. "What else?"

"... Just a bit righteous and capable of staying unbiased than most people."

"That sounds good enough." The god speaking to him refused to reveal himself until the end and only chuckled before adding nonchalantly, "That soul must be special or else there's no way her uninteresting life would qualify by the Temple's standards. Liu Yang, please arrange everything. Teach the person how to be an examiner."

A contemplative look emerged on Liu Yang's face. He was already mapping out how to fit into his tight schedule the task that had just been thrown at him.

"By your will." The black-haired angel then replied, his tone with just the right amount of respect for a higher being, sounding neither haughty nor servile.

With a soft hum of approval from the unseen party, the short conversation that took place after Zhang Mei Xing left ended just like that.

The other presence then withdrew from the place. This time, all that was left in that suffocating white room was Liu Yang who proceeded to meet the next lucky examinee.

End of the first volume. I wrote this one only to show what happened after the girl died because I don't want her to appear in my story as a mere lucky gal who suddenly time-traveled to the past without knowing why.

Of course, in the end, there's still so little info revealed, but I swear, I did my best to show that people didn't reincarnate or get chosen to reincarnate without a basis, there at least has to be a process. Haha.

Thanks for reading. Please vote and comment. :D

Onward to the next volume, which is the actual start of the main story.
