Ch 28:- Sleeping Beauty

Rayne discovered 5 gold sycee, 10 silver sycee, 12 silver coins, 4 short swords, some armor, and a slave trading log on the corpses. After determining that they had nothing left of value, Rayne returned to the carriage and immediately stored all the rations they had acquired as well as the spare tent that they had. He then turned and looked down at the sleeping figure of a young girl, no more than seventeen years old, with auburn hair and a slim figure that still appeared to be maturing.

"Should I take her with me or should I leave her here?" Rayne pondered as he noticed the young girl lying nearby. As he approached her, he noticed a black marking peeking out from under her rough cloth tunic. Intrigued, he moved closer and examined the marking but was unable to discern what it was. He decided to undress her to check for further markings. As he did, he discovered a whole poem written in a strange language on her back with black ink, like some kind of tattoo. Rayne was unable to understand the language. However, as he touched the marking, he felt the sensation of soul force running through them. To gain a further understanding of what they were, he immediately activated his ocular ability and looked at them still not being able to discern it, he focused on them. At that moment, he saw the soul force of the writing weaving itself to form a more understandable word for him [Heaven's Devouring technique Phase I: Absorbing Soul Force]. But with it came a massive amount of pain in his head, painting his vision red. He immediately deactivated his ability and popped a healing pill in his mouth. Soon, a warm sensation spread throughout his mind, and his vision returned to normal. He felt a wet sensation under his eyes and cheek, and as he moved his hand and wiped it, he saw blood.

'That was dangerous. If I kept my eyes active for more than a few seconds, I would have probably gone blind.'

'But still, I hit a jackpot being able to find such a technique. If I remember correctly, even the guidebook about soul force didn't talk about absorbing soul force from the atmosphere and refining the core. But that's not the most important thing. The most important thing is that I need to keep this girl alive if I want to learn more about the technique on her back.'

After finishing his inner monologue, Rayne immediately summoned his spare long-sleeved white shirt and stripped off one of the corpse's pants. He cast a spell that he had learned not long ago with his wand made of his own blood "Purgatio", and immediately both the clothes were as clean as they possibly could be. After that, he took one of the horses and gently placed the newly dressed Sleeping Beauty on the horse. He turned around and splashed some of his oil urns on the corpse before casting another spell "Incendio" and immediately lighting all the corpses on fire.

After that, he turned around and immediately mounted the horse while keeping the girl's body close to his so that she doesn't fall off. He then kicked his heels into the horse side and immediately commanded it to run. The horse rose on its hindlimbs before snorting and bursting into a fury of speed towards Route-06.

After a couple of hours, they finally reached Route-06. Rayne commanded the horse to walk slowly so that it could recover some of its stamina. During that time, Rayne calculated the distance between him and the town from his current position, and it was exactly 65 km away. If he were to make a rough estimation, then they would reach the town in about one to two hours.

After the horse recovered some of its stamina, he once again commanded it to run at the highest speed, and like this, he continued. After about one hour and fifty-six minutes, he finally reached the gate of the town.

As he rode his horse towards the gate, the guards blocking the entrance stopped him and asked, "Identity," while giving a strange look at Sleeping Beauty. At that moment, Rayne realized that he had no identity. He pleaded, "Sir, is there any other way?" The guards looked at each other before replying, "No." Rayne sighed and understood what they wanted. He secretly summoned two gold sycee and asked, "How about this? Can I enter now?" However, the guards' gazes did not waver, so he summoned four silver sycee with a pained expression and said, "Is this enough? I can't provide more than this." The guards immediately snatched the money and politely welcomed him to Vanilla Town.

After passing through the gate, he went to the nearest stable, which the guards had pointed out, and paid 20 silver coins to keep his horse there. Then, he carried the girl to a nearby inn that he had spotted earlier.

Entering the inn, Rayne rang the bell several times before a fat receptionist arrived, sounding sleepy as she asked, "How many days?" Rayne promptly replied, "Two days." She asked him to pay 20 silver coins before handing him a key. After opening the door to their room, Rayne carefully laid the girl on the bed. Then, he sat down on the floor and summoned the book that he had salvaged earlier from one of the corpses that he had defeated earlier, [The Golden Body.]

As he read through the book, he soon became engrossed in it. The Golden Body Technique is an outer body enhancement type technique. The first page provided general information about the human body. The second page contained general details about the meridian channels and the third page onwards contained on how to perform the technique. To perform the Golden Body Technique, one needs to have extremely good control over their qi. This involves focusing all of the qi at one point and stabilizing its frequency before carefully brushing it over the body to form a protective outer shell. However that was easier said than done.

'It's a piece of junk my natural durability is already on a higher level than this technique allows on to have but I still got some insight on meridian system,' Rayne thought.

Rayne then summoned his character info.
