She had consistently experienced immense fear since arriving in Soul Society. The afterlife, which she once believed would be a paradise, was the exact opposite of what she had imagined. Despite her efforts to conceal her beauty, they were futile; she continuously faced harassment because of it.
Always soft-spoken and polite, she addressed everyone with proper honorifics. She was kind-hearted, always thinking of others before herself, caring deeply for their feelings and well-being. However, this selflessness became her downfall. When she first arrived in this world, it was nothing short of a nightmare. But over time, she began to adapt to her new life.
Having developed her Reiryoku early on, she needed to find food and water, which meant venturing outside more often. However, the number of 'Slayers' wandering around the town grew larger and more menacing each day.
One day, as she ventured outside in search of food and water, she was cornered by three of these 'Slayers.' Terrified, she desperately tried to avoid becoming their plaything. She attempted to escape, but her efforts were in vain. All she could do was hope for a miracle, for someone to come to her rescue.
Suddenly, the girl slowly opened her eyes. She was greeted by a bright star night sky, surrounded by a lush forest. She had no idea how she had ended up there, and her head throbbed with dizziness. The only memory that surfaced was of being harassed by those three men. Panic set in as she started to sweat, fearing that if they found her, her life would be over. As she scanned her surroundings, she noticed a mysterious man sitting in front of a fireplace.
As she frantically tried to think of an escape plan, a growl emanated from her stomach: "Growl~~~." Her face flushed crimson with embarrassment. The mysterious man chuckled and began to speak.
"Oh, you're finally awake." The mysterious man spoke without looking at her, his gaze fixed on the fire as he waited for the fish and rabbit to finish cooking.
The girl remained silent, carefully observing the mysterious man, analyzing whether he harbored any malice toward her. After a few moments, she decided to speak.
"I'm sorry for the inconvenience, but may I ask who you are and what you want from me?" The girl asked, her voice steady but firm. The mysterious man simply shrugged.
"Your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man," the man joked, laughing at his own jest. But the girl just stared at him as if he were insane.
"Sorry, I couldn't resist," he said, still smiling. "My name is Ren. Ren Ando. As for your other question, I just happened to save you from those three thugs. I saw that you needed help, so I brought you here. And no, I didn't touch your body," he added, sensing her lingering wariness.
The girl finally began to let her guard down after hearing his explanation.
"I'm sorry for causing you trouble, and thank you for saving me. Now, if you don't mind, I'll return to my—" Before she could finish her sentence, her stomach growled again, rendering her speechless. Ren chuckled once more, but this time offered her some food.
"Hm, she has strong Reiryoku and Reiatsu. Well, this is interesting," Ren thought to himself after scanning her spiritual energy.
"Here, if you're hungry, eat this," Ren said, tossing her a stick of roasted rabbit. The girl caught it and stared at the meat, uncertain whether to accept his kindness. As she was about to decline, Ren spoke again.
"Don't worry about it. I've got plenty. And if you're thirsty, the water is over there," he said, pointing to a pot of water he had boiled.
Ren took a stick and began eating as well. The girl, still cautious, slowly sat down by the fire. Now, with a full view of the man who had saved her, she was surprised by his appearance. He was tall and strikingly handsome, with long, stylish white-silver hair that spiked at various spots on his head. His silver eyes gleamed like diamonds.
Ren noticed her gaze but paid it no mind. The girl finally took a bite of the roasted rabbit, tears welling up in her eyes as the rich flavor filled her mouth. It had been so long since she had eaten good food. The memory of risking her life in that cursed district just for a bite resurfaced, and she found herself overwhelmed with emotion. Ren, seeing this, tried to lighten the mood.
"So, how's life treating you, Miss~~~?" Ren asked, playfully trailing off to prompt her name.
"Emma. Just Emma. I have no surname. And please, don't call me Miss—just Emma is fine," she replied softly. Ren nodded, relieved to hear her name.
"Looks like she kind of trusts me," Ren thought to himself.
"Okay, Emma, do you have anyone, or are you alone?" Ren asked, trying to gather more information.
"No, I don't. I'm all alone," Emma responded, her voice tinged with sadness. She didn't want to reveal too much, and Ren noticed her reluctance, sighing quietly to himself.
"Well, I hope you can rest well, Emma. You're in pretty bad shape, and with your current condition, you wouldn't last more than a few hours out there. If you don't mind, I'll continue my training," Ren said, finishing his meal and gulping down some water before heading to a nearby clearing.
Emma watched as he walked away, her eyes following him under her hood. She didn't know why, but she couldn't stop looking at him. There was something about him that drew her in. She saw him pick up a wooden twig, and at first, she was confused.
"Is he using a twig for sword training? Is he a child?" But her doubts were quickly dispelled as she watched Ren's performance with the stick. His movements were fluid as if he were one with nature, and his strikes were powerful yet delicate, as though he could cut through anything with that simple twig. What struck her most was the emotion behind his movements—it was like watching a child playing with joy.
She was mesmerized by the sight. "It's beautiful," she muttered to herself.
Then, a strong wind blew through the forest, lifting her hood and revealing her face. Ren looked at Emma, equally captivated by her beauty. Her hair was styled in a traditional, elaborate updo, neatly arranged and held with hairpins, giving her a refined and composed appearance. Her silver eyes, calm and serene, conveyed kindness and wisdom.

Their eyes met, and both felt a blush creeping onto their cheeks. They quickly looked away, unsure of what to say. After a few moments, Ren spoke first.
"I must say, you're very beautiful, Emma," Ren complimented her, flashing a warm smile.
Emma blushed even deeper. "Thank you for the compliment, Ren."
Ren smiled at her again before returning to his sword training. Emma sat by the fire, watching his every move. She had to admit, his swordplay was unlike anything she had ever seen. She had always believed that swords were meant for killing, cold-blooded weapons of war. But watching Ren, she began to see that his swordsmanship was not about killing—it was about expressing his feelings, his very soul.
"Can I ever be like that?" she wondered, looking down at her hands. She wanted to know if she could wield a sword and fight like him. She wanted to defend herself in this harsh world.
Ren noticed her thoughtful expression and stopped his training. He walked toward Emma, who immediately tensed up. "What is he doing? Is he going to attack me?" she thought, searching for a way to escape. But before she could act, Ren simply pinched her cheek. Emma's eyes widened in shock. Ren chuckled.
"Haha, you're pretty cute, Emma, with that face," Ren teased.
"Mou! Stop, it hurts!" Emma exclaimed, rubbing her now-red cheek. Ren stopped pinching and grinned at her.
"Sorry for scaring you. I just wanted to lighten the mood," Ren said with a smirk.
"Mou! Next time, don't do that, okay?" Emma replied, pouting at him.
"I don't know… Your cheeks are very soft. Who knows? Maybe I'll pinch them again," Ren teased with a mischievous grin.
"Not going to happen, Ren," Emma shot back, still pouting.
"Hahaha, okay. I'm done with my training, so I'm going to sleep now. And before you ask where you'll sleep," Ren said, pointing to a large, clean leaf. "There, that's a good spot for a mattress. I'm going to doze off now." Ren walked past Emma, waving casually as he headed to his sleeping spot.
Emma watched him lie down and start to sleep. She quickly set up her sleeping space and lay down, her mind racing with thoughts.
"Can he teach me how to wield a sword?" she wondered to herself before drifting off to sleep.
