Chapter 60 - Field Trip (3)

[Team RWBYS Dorm Room]

Shallot had made it back to the dorm room and had opened the door when he could see that the girls were inside playing with a Corgi while Blake was on top of Ruby's bed moving sideways avoiding the dog.

Shallot giggled seeing this thinking it was hilarious when he was walking in there was another box with some holes in the top sitting close to where they were playing with the Corgi.

Blake: "Please keep it away from my belongings."

Shallot walked in drawing the girls' attention when Ruby started pointing at the box on the ground. Inside the box, you could hear the sound of a cat meowing. \

Ruby: "This package was sent to you from our house. Do you know our dad?"

Shallot: "I do know Taiyang but I haven't met him personally."

Shallot walks over to the box and opens it and a black cat with green eyes pops their head out. Shallot eyes widen wondering what his cat is doing here since he left her with Summer. Shallot picked up his cat and she purred while being held in his arms. He looked inside the box and could see some boxes with a cat symbol on it and an envelope on top of it.

Shallot looked down at the cat he was holding with a reminiscing smile on his face.

Shallot: "What are you doing here Merlin?"

Merlin: "Nyyyaaaa... nyaa nyaaaa nya nyan [It was getting stuffy in that box. That yellow-haired human is so strange.]

Merlin stretched slightly then jumped on top of Shallot's head before laying down on top of his hair and curling up.

Ruby: "You have a cat? And why was he being sent by my dad."

He looked at the envelope thinking that it would explain why Merlin would be getting sent through the mail with a Corgi.

Shallot: "The letter probably explains why."

Shallot begins opening the letter when Glynda's voice came over the intercom.

Glynda: (Over the intercom) "Would all first-year students please report to the amphitheater?"

Weiss was looking at the black cat on Shallot's head while turning and looking at Blake while also thinking that the cat was really cute.

Weiss: "We can't exactly leave both of them here while we're gone for a week."

Ruby sets Zwei down and he walks over to Blake still on the top bunk and Zwei (Corgi) barks with Blake looking like a cat moving around the bed to stay away from Zwei. Merlin turns her head and looks yawning slightly before laying back down.

Yang: "Look, there's a letter!

Zwei hops down from Ruby's arms and arrives in front of Yang

Yang: "Dear girls, I've got to leave the island for a few days, so I'm sending Zwei to you to take care of. Enclosed is all the food you should need. Love you both, Taiyang."

While Yang is reading her leader Shallot opens his envelope and a picture falls out and he grabs the letter on the inside and starts reading.

Shallot: 'High Shallot, I have made it back to the house with Taiyang and we have spent our time catching up on what has happened in the last years. He thought I was a ghost when he had seen me and started crying like a little girl hahaha.

I have to thank you for everything that you've done for me including this really cool arm. I have sent Merlin along with Zwei because she keeps hoping in the bed everytime I try to sleep with Taiyang. I also sent a picture of when I was bathing you when we were still in the cave the first year.

You kids grow up so fast. Make sure that Merlin doesn't get ahold of anything bad. Also I want to surprise the girls when they get back so Taiyang didn't tell them in his letter that I was back. Keep it a secret for me and if you like my daughter wait until you graduate atleast.'

Shallot had a bead of sweat come down his forehead thinking about what he has already done and knows that she may chase him with her bow launching arrows at him. Shallot balls the later up before destroying it with a ki blast in his hand vaporizing it to leave no evidence.

Shallot opens the envelope to look for the picture when he notices that it is empty. He then looks on the floor but doesn't see anything but some cans of dog food and a can opener and then turns and sees Blake with the picture in her hand. Shallot eyes go wide thinking that his BS skills better be in top form today for what he is going to have to explain to keep this a secret.

Yang looks over at Shallot and turns the picture towards him and everyone else sees it with Ruby staring at it. In the picture is a smaller version of him standing at only 3 ft and Summer next to him holding him close while washing his hair with him having a pout on his face.

Summer had one hand out holding the camera facing towards the both of them while they were sitting in what looked like an outdoors open bath but the only difference was that they could see cave walls in the background.

Ruby looked at Shallot with some hope in her eyes. Shallot was thinking this is going to be hard to explain.

Ruby: "You know who my mom is? Do you know where she is right now?"

Everyone else in the room got quiet and waited for his answer while Shallot was feeling why did Summer send a picture if she wanted to keep it a secret for now.

Shallot: "I do know your mom and she was like a mother to me when I was younger when I was out exploring the world. She had said that she was out on a mission and she wanted to finish it so she could get back to her daughters Ruby and Yang."

Ruby: "So what happened. Why haven't I heard of her."

Shallot: "We were attacked by a large swarm of Grimm and she lost an arm."

Shallot wanted to mix truths in but also lead them to think that he doesn't know where she is currently.

Shallot: "We were fighting a large group when we got separated and I'm not sure where she went after that but she said that she will probably head back home if she can."

Ruby looked down thinking that maybe she didn't make it and that small amount of hope started to flicker out before Shallot started talking again.

Shallot: "She didn't seem as if she would die so easily so don't count her out just yet. She may not have made it back years ago but we were all the way in the Anima plains."

Ruby's face brightened up wanting to go back home and tell her dad that mom may still be on her way back she just has to travel on foot.

Ruby stares at Zwei before smiling becoming happier like always.
