Despite the chill and the relentless pace, Ryomaru marveled at the white-clad world around him. He glanced at the distant peaks, their snow-capped tops gleaming under the sunlight, the sight both breathtaking and intimidating.
Their journey led them next into the Hot Water Country. The drastic change in climate was disorienting. The cold of the Frost Country was replaced with an uncomfortable heat, making Ryomaru's skin prickle. Still, he kept his discomfort to himself, focusing on keeping up with A's pace.
The Fire Country, with Konoha - the village hidden in the leaves - as its central hub, greeted them next. The thick, lush foliage was a soothing sight for Ryomaru's travel-weary eyes. It was here that A finally slowed down.
"Get some rest, Ryomaru," the Raikage ordered, as they stopped at the outskirts of Konoha. "We have a meeting with the Hokage tomorrow."
Ryomaru nodded, grateful for the chance to rest. His muscles ached, his stamina tested by the relentless pace of their journey. He took the time to rejuvenate, refueling his body and resting as much as he could before the next leg of their journey.
The next day, they made their way to the Hokage's office. Hiruzen Sarutobi, the Third Hokage, greeted them. A man of age and wisdom, his calm demeanor was a stark contrast to A's intense aura.
Ryomaru and A were welcomed into the Hokage's office, the room a familiar blend of old parchment and wood. Sarutobi, dressed in his traditional Hokage robes, sat behind a large desk cluttered with paperwork. He looked at Ryomaru, a warm smile playing on his lips.
"Ryomaru, you've grown," Sarutobi said, his voice filled with genuine fondness. "The last time I saw you, you were merely a child during the Chunin Exams in Kumo. Now look at you, a young shinobi ready to take on the world."
Ryomaru responded with a respectful nod. "Thank you, Hokage-sama," he replied, his tone formal.
Turning his attention to A, Sarutobi continued, "I trust Fugaku's family has settled well in Kumo?"
A's stern face softened just a bit. "Yes, they have adjusted to their new surroundings. Fugaku and Mikoto have found their place. Itachi is already making a name for himself, and Sasuke… he's in the same class as Ryomaru."
"Ah, that's good to hear," Sarutobi nodded. "I hope they find peace in your village."
Ryomaru, listening quietly, couldn't help but feel a warmth spreading through him at the mention of the Uchiha family. Despite being outsiders, they were treated well in Kumogakure. Sasuke, especially, had become a familiar face in Ryomaru's life. Their friendship was casual, forged in shared training and youthful camaraderie.
Breaking his reverie, A's deep voice echoed through the room. "Hokage, will you be attending the Chunin Exams?"
Hiruzen smiled, a twinkle in his aged eyes. "Indeed, I will be attending. I plan to arrive with my own entourage a little later. However, if you'd prefer, we can journey together."
A considered this, before finally nodding in agreement. "That would be suitable."
Their conversation then turned to politics, discussions about village alliances, resources, and the ever-changing power dynamics within the shinobi world. A spoke with authority, his words backed by his experience as a village leader, while Sarutobi, despite his advanced age, was shrewd and insightful.
Throughout the discussion, Ryomaru remained quiet, absorbing their words. This was a glimpse into a world he was gradually becoming a part of, a realm ruled not by individual strength but by strategic alliances and diplomatic negotiations.
Finally, after what seemed like hours, Sarutobi called in an Anbu. "Please lead Raikage-sama and Ryomaru to their accommodations," he instructed, his voice steady.
The Anbu, masked and clad in the standard black uniform, bowed before leading them out of the Hokage's office. Ryomaru followed in silence, his mind mulling over the day's conversation. The political intricacies, the underlying tensions, the constant maneuvering for power - it was a lot to take in.
Upon reaching their accommodation, Ryomaru was thankful for the chance to rest. His body still ached from the day's journey, and the heavy conversation had drained him mentally. As he sank into the soft mattress, he felt the day's exhaustion seep into his bones.
After a few hours of rest, Ryomaru decided to venture out into Konoha. He sought the Fourth Raikage's permission, promising to return well before sundown. A glanced at him, an unreadable look in his eyes before he nodded curtly.
With the permission secured, Ryomaru set out, his steps carrying him through the bustling village. Konoha was a stark contrast to Kumogakure with its verdant greenery and warm, welcoming atmosphere. The streets were lively, lined with small shops selling an array of goods, and filled with villagers going about their daily lives.
As he walked through the heart of the village, Ryomaru noticed a small park tucked away from the hustle and bustle. The inviting shades of trees and the faint laughter of children playing drew him towards it. Inside, a few kids were engaged in their games, their lively energy filling the air.
A girl with soft pink hair stood out among them, her green eyes brimming with determination as she expertly dodged an opponent in a mock battle. Nearby, another girl with platinum blond hair cheered enthusiastically, her bright blue eyes sparkling with excitement.
A lazy-looking boy with a distinctive ponytail lounged under a tree, his half-closed eyes seemingly disinterested in the ongoing games. Beside him, a round-faced boy happily munched on some chips, his cheeks puffed out like a chipmunk.
A boy with wild brown hair and red marks on his cheeks was engaged in a wrestling match with a small white dog, their playful growls filling the park. A few feet away, a girl with dark hair and eyes as soft as lavender watched the scene, her pale cheeks turning pink every now and then.
Another girl, younger than the rest, was practicing her stance next to her sister, her petite figure swaying in concentration. Not far from her, a boy with dark glasses and an aura of calmness observed a colony of bugs with undivided attention.
But what caught Ryomaru's attention was a lonely figure sitting apart from the others. A boy with messy blond hair and vibrant blue eyes, his face marked by three distinct whiskers on each cheek. He sat alone, his gaze fixed on the frolicking children. There was a touch of longing in his eyes, a subtle hint of sadness that tugged at Ryomaru's heart.
