Alter–Ego

-Where am I? – I asked into the void.

[The owner is in a severe condition]

[You will not be able to awaken until fully restored]

[ Would you like to try out the Mystic Eyes {Alter–Ego} ability? ]

– New ability? What is it's effect?

[At this stage of owner proficiency, you only have access to the someone's else body without the possibility of control]

– Hmmm, sounds interesting, but how is a person chosen to move in? – I liked this idea, because I can't pass out now and it would be nice to watch a short film.

[The system will personally select recommended conditions from the works of the owner's past world and knowledge ]

[To maintain interest, the main or significant characters will be selected and the owner will be transferred to a real parallel world of the observed person ]

[Once mastered, you will be able to influence a person's body, thoughts and actions, up to complete control]

[Upon reaching the minimum requirements, you will be able to choose the following universes in order of complexity, for the faster development of the abilities of the Mystic Eyes]

[Once mastered, you will be able to use this ability without restrictions]

"I see, then I want to try."

[ Accepted. The transfer of consciousness into *Claude Frollo* from the work "Notre Dame de Paris" is launched]

Before I even had time to be surprised, I found myself in the body of a little boy reading texts in Latin.

At first I didn't understand what was written there, but gradually I began to merge with Frollo, allowing me to observe him from the side.

I began to hear his thoughts, understand his thinking, and gained access to his memory.

He was incredibly talented and studied to become a theologian by the decision of his parents, who were minor nobles, which was only a joy for him.

The reason was simple - he had a passion for understanding the world and knowledge. It was so bright, that I became affected with the desire to study with him.

He learned all the material incredibly quickly, so at first I was afraid that I wouldn't be able to keep up with him, but then my eyes helped.

They processed information incredibly quickly, capaciously and efficiently, loading and sorting it in the brain.

Compared to the past, despite the ideal physique, the comparison can be compared to carrying water from a lake using a bucket and an automated conveyor. An ordinary person would carry it with the help of his palms, from which water quickly flowed out.

This made me faster at learning, than Frolo, allowing me to spend more time observing Frolo himself.

By the time he came of age 16, he became a doctor(PhD) of various disciplines: theology, medicine, law and liberal arts.

I was sincerely pleased with his success. I cannot describe the feelings of pride and joy for his success. I became not a reader, but a eyewitness of his life.

But then tragedy happened...

His parents died of the plague, leaving him with a younger brother, and in the same year he was appointed clergyman of Notre Dame. He accepted the vows that bound his nature and began to take care of his younger brother.

Shortly after this, he adopted a disfigured child, which he could not call anything other than a "creature", whom his parents and everyone around him abandoned.

At the beginning, his motive was sincere and pure, but at the same time, his character truly became distorted under the weight of all the adversities, creating a defense mechanism that would create him as the man at the beginning of the novel, who was ruined by the world and this era.

The thought crept into him: "If I raise this child, I will secure a place in heaven for myself."

After that, everything went downhill.

Having no concept of a good family, he moved away from his brother and left his upbringing to others. He began to lose faith in God, his disgust for the stupid human crowd grew in him, completely surrendering to new knowledge - alchemy.

I already knew this story, but it was too late to try to help him - he was already broken inside.

I watched his last moments with sadness as he was pushed by Quasimodo. I could have saved him by taking control of his body, but he still will face a sad end.

He landed on the tiled roof, seriously injured but still alive. He began to slide, but resisted furiously, clinging to the tiles with his nails, but it was useless.

In those last moments, he saw me for the first time, standing on top of the roof, looking at him with sadness. He begged me for help, mistaking me for a real person, but I continued to stand.

As a result, he slipped off the roof and fell onto the pavement, dead.

Quasimodo sobbed at the top, having killed the only person truly dear to him, and Esmeralda indulged in the last spasms of resistance on the gallows because of a man who had already forgotten about her.

Slowly descending to Frollo on the pavement, I looked into his empty glass eyes that expressed sincere ignorance of reasons that lead him to his end.

Remembering this look, I looked at the sky, after which I closed mine.

[Life story of *Claude Frollo* completed]

- Phew... how long do I have left before my body is restored? – I asked, still in the void.

[Body restored by 40%]

[Would you like to repeat? ]

- Yes. – the only thing I didn't want right now was to be left alone to realize what had happened.

[The owner has reached the minimum requirements]

[Select difficulty: Easy, Medium, Difficult ]

– Can you divide it according to the time required to restore the body?

[ Easy(20%), Medium(40%), Difficult(60%) ]

– I choose the difficult one. – I wanted to finish this quickly.

[ Accepted. The transfer of consciousness to *David Martinez* from "Cyberpunk 2077: Edgerunners" starts]

- Hey, stop! Wait!.. – I couldn't cancel and my consciousness was carried away somewhere again.

[Author's P.S. : I wanted to write about it, though it doesn't really suit to this fanfiction and this idea have potential for separate work, but I said "heck it" and just wrote. Hope you don't mind it + I just bought full collection of Cyberpunk 2077 with DLC. Can't wait to play, but it still downloading ]
