Chapter 66

I want to date you.

Biting her thumbnail, Zoe sat on her bed, freshly showered, and stared at her phone. Drake had texted five minutes before, and she was still trying to formulate a response. Tonight, once again, he'd proven their first kiss hadn't been a fluke. Or their second or third. She'd meant to put a stop to what was happening between them or, at the very least, be honest with him about expectations.

But damn. He made her weak. So, so very weak.

Screw it. She thumbed her response and hit Send. I don't date.

The icon indicated he was typing. She looked at Cotton next to her on the bed. "He's going to talk me into it. Just watch. You need to help me be strong."

Cotton rolled over and purred in response.

Ever? Why not? I've seen you out with other men.

She smacked a hand to her forehead. Out, yes. Date, no. Dating leads to relationships. I don't have time. It was a cop-out answer, but rooted in truth.

What's wrong with a relationship? If it's right, you can make time.
