Ward had a ranking system that awarded numbers, or ranks, to the cadets of each years, based on skill, ability, and overall performance from the exam.
The higher the rank a Cadet was, the higher the certain privileges, and consideration is awarded.
But at the very top of Rankings of each year, was a specific Honourary position for the absolute best and most talented Cadet. Top of the Ranking, and distinguishable from all others.
The "Light Bearer."
The Light Bearer was the number one ranked cadet chosen as a leading figure of the entire school year.
The Light Bearer, at it name suggested, represented the cadet, the brightest ray and star who held the beacon and light for all others to follow and aspire to reach.
It was a position that was greatly looked up to and awed. Each class year had a respective Light Bearer that could also serve as a kind of representative and leader.
