Chapter 21

"How did you know how to do that?" Jarrod asked Braxton as they closed the door to Renaes room, leaving her to sleep.

"My little brother had to do it with me when I would have anxiety attacks." He sighed then looked up at Jarrod. "I just hope that she writes it down so it's something she can see and not have to have it weigh so much on her mind."

"Thank you." Jarrod sighed as they walked into the kitchen.

"I don't need any thanks. I do need to get going though. My parents were going to pick me up in the morning since tomorrows saturday. I need to be in my dorm room when they get here." Braxton looked at the untouched food sitting on the stove.

"I'll walk you so James won't stop you." Jarrod patted his shoulder.

"You've been around when my parents have had their anger fits right? My little brother texted me a little while ago that their on their way and they're worse then normal. I'm a little worried what might happen if Renae meets them." Braxton asked Jarrod as he locked the door.

"I understand you don't want Renae to meet your family yet." Jarrod smirked as they started walking.

"I-it's not that, it's just. I don't want her to meet who they are. I just need a little time to break the new to them before she meets them." Braxton dropped his head in disappointment.

"I get it. Renae probably felt the same way, but she didn't really have much choice did she?" Jarrod patted his shoulder as they reached the dorms. "Either way, it's up to you when your ready for it. I better get going, since it's her first full moon since her abilities have started and the clouds are just clearing up now. I have to make sure she stays inside."

"I'll see you later then. Please tell Rae that she'll be okay and that I'll see her later after the weekend please." Braxton pleaded with his eyes before Jarrod nodded before turning around and heading back to his house.

-Braxtons POV-

I opened the door to the dorms to see Kendall sitting on the couch texting on his phone and chugging a blood bag.

"Where the hell have you been?" He never lifted his gaze from his phone.

"Out, have they shown up yet?" I stopped walking before reaching the stairs.

"Well, actually, they just called saying they won't be here till next week. I guess some girl was nice enough gave them some food and it changed all of their plans." He still never lift his eyes from his phone.

"How'd they call? They don't use phones, they hate phones."

"Well, your mom got a phone. She said she had some really good news for you but she doesn't have your number. Your brother is staying with your uncle till they get back from visiting." He smirked knowing this supposed secret.

"What surprise?" I began slowly walking towards him, irritated at that.

"Well why don't you call your mommy since you're in such a good mood?" He laughed then tossed me a small piece of paper. I unfolded the paper and recognized it. I pulled out my phone and called.

"Hello?" I heard my moms voice on the other end.

"Hey mom, sorry I know it's late but Kendall just told me you got a phone. Is everything okay?"

"Oh honey, everything's perfectly fine, but we're going to an appointment in the morning because...we.. I don't know if I should tell you over the phone..."

"Mom, you can tell me, where's dad at?"

"Should I tell him?" Her voice was slightly muffled.

"Yeah, I'm not sure the next time we'll see him." I barely heard my dad.

"Mom?"

"Well honey... we're pregnant!" Her voice was excited, judging from her excitement, she expected me to be as well. The last time mom was pregnant she almost didn't survive so they decided they either wouldn't have any more kids, or wait till Benji was at the academy so they wouldn't have to worry about us.

"What? I though-"

"Honey, it just kind of happened. I know what we talked about but things happened and I hope you can understand. We would've told you sooner but we never found the chance to and we wanted you to hear it from us instead of Benjamin or Tomas."

"I understand you didn't want me to hear it from Benji or from Uncle Tomas but I thought you guys wanted to wait for five more years or so. How far along are you? Are you okay? You're not cramping like how you did with Benji right?"

"Well, I'm seven months along. Like I said, I would've told you sooner but I also wanted to be sure we were in the safe zone to tell anybody. No i haven't had any complications whatsoever. I've been more hungry for human food but I'm good otherwise."

"Woah wait, seven months? I'm just now finding out? How long has Benji known?"

"He's known for a few months, since I started showing. I had to beg him not to tell you so I could tell you myself. His stipulation was that I get a phone." I continued into my room as she spoke.

"It's okay mom... I actually have some news for you too." I bit my lip, anger heating my body. "I was going to tell you when you got here but I'd rather you know now." My chest was tightening.

"What's your news?" She sounded excited.

"You remember how Sir Jarrod had a daughter right? About half a year younger then me?" I bit my lip waiting for a response.

"Yes, the Riley daughter? What about her honey?"

"Well I met her and..." I tried to find the words to explain. I couldn't say we were dating because I never mustered up the courage to ask yet.

"...and what honey?"

"Well... I think I'm in love with her... and I have every intention of asking her to marry me." There was nothing but silence on the other end while I feel myself shrink waiting for her response.

"OH HONEY, THAT'S THE BEST NEWS I COULD HAVE EVER HOPED FOR!" She screamed so loudly I could still hear her when I dropped my phone. I rushed to pick it up and heard my dad yell ow.

"Wait! Do you want your grandmother's ring then? I keep it on me, we can stop by and give it to you!" Her excitement started feeding into mine. I always imagined proposing with that ring, I remember my mom telling me stories of how my grandmother wanted me to use this ring for my future wife.

"I'd really like that mom but take your time. I'm in no rush." I blushed as I scratched the back of my head. "I'm gonna let you go to bed, I'll call you in the morning since I have your number now. I love you."

"I love you too sweetie." I hung up. I walked along the corridor feeling odd, I couldn't understand why Benji didn't tell me. It never mattered before what my parents asked of us, we've never kept secrets before because we always watched each others backs because our parents go back and forth on being psychopaths.

I looked out the balcony to see the full moon. Suddenly I felt an intense pain in my chest. My heart was beating? It only lasted a few minutes before it stopped again. I looked around to see I had fallen off the balconies edge. Surprising me more then anything, I was caught and tackled to the ground by James.

"Get off of me dog boy." I muttered grabbing my chest still feeling the pain raging through my body.

"What the hell are you doing jumping out of your dorms? It's night class hours." He crossed his arms expecting a good excuse.

"I don't remember jumping, I just felt a pain in my chest. I thought there was no class allowed during a full moon?" I looked at him to see him extending his hand. This kid may not be as bad as I thought, I grabbed his hand as he helped me to my feet.

Suddenly we heard a terrorized scream, it was so loud and blood curdling there was only one person I know who could've made that scream.

"The headmaster." We looked at each other and harmonized. We ran to sir Jarrod as fast as we possibly could. James wasn't far behind me, but I've been cracking into my running to be quicker than ever. The horror struck my eyes when I saw Sir Jarrod carrying Raes lifeless body to his car.

-Narrators POV-

"What happened?" Braxton screamed stealing Jarrods attention.

"Boy, get in the car, I need you to hold her down if she changes while I'm driving. Keep away from her mouth and don't let her eyes make direct contact with the moon." Jarrods eyes were flared red as tears soaked his face and shirt.

"Oh my god." James stopped behind Braxton and froze with horror.

"James, stay here and keep up with your duties. Tell Mr Drabe that Rae saw the moon and we'll be at the hospital. Tell him it's happened again." Jarrod laid Renae in the back seat on Braxtons lap. He held her head still then placed one hand on her chest, he froze when he felt no heartbeat.

"Yes sir." James called as Jarrod ran around the car into the driver seat.

As soon as Jarrod got the car started, he pulled out his phone and called the hospital.

"Adam? It's happened again. Be at the doors, we're on our way." He threw his phone on the passenger side as he sped to the hospital.

"Come on... come on..." Jarrod whispered to himself as he cried.

When they finally reached the hospital, Jarrod pulled her out as gentle as he could manage and carried her to Dr Jones who had a gurney ready.

"She saw the moon and she just collapsed." Jarrod pushed through tears as he laid her down.

"Get the restraints on, get her an I.V. with saline and v venom. If we can help it, were going to keep her as stable as possible. When we get the chance, we need to discuss her tests that I had run. They were a little more than concerning." They pushed the gurney inside as he yelled for the nurses.

"You, need to come with me and talk to her to see if you can get her to wake up." Dr Jones pointed to Braxton.

"Why me?" He started to shake as he walked closer to her motionless body.

"Because the two of you have been almost inseparable for the last month or more. You can't say you two haven't bonded, and I need some blood from both of you." Braxton grabbed Renaes hand as they walked back. As they entered a room, Braxton felt her squeeze his hand.

"She just squeezed my hand." After informing Dr Jones, he grabbed his stethoscope to listen to her heartbeat.

"It's faint but it's there. We need to hurry." Doctors and nurses rushed in the room and got to work around Braxton letting him stay by her side and hold her hand.

Braxton started whispering in her ear "Rae, you can wake up now, you're okay. You'll be okay, I promise I won't leave your side again. It was stupid of me to leave you in the first place." He felt her squeeze his hand again.

After placing the oxygen mask on her face, Braxton moved closer to her "I know you said you wanted to go slow, but I can't. Not anymore, I want to be by your side always. I love you Rae." As he whispered, he watched a single tear roll from her closed eyes.

"Okay, Jarrod is going to be in soon, you need to go with the nurse and get some of your blood drawn. Jarrod will stay with her so she won't be alone." Jarrod took Braxtons spot on her side. Braxton was reluctant to let go but eventually did.

"She'll be okay. I promise." Dr Jones said to Braxton to get him out of the room.
