Exercise to 'win.' There was no need for it. It was just a formality. There was nothing substantial about it. This was what the brigade commander wanted to say.
With the brigade commander's reprimand, those leaders who didn't think that Ye Jian would be able to establish the 'pseudo-base station' didn't say anything else. Even if they wanted to discuss, they would only say a few words in private.
It could be seen that a few leaders were not optimistic about Ye Jian's move. They felt that it was impossible to build a 'pseudo-base station' in a short period of time. It would lose the chance of winning that they had fought so hard for and they would fail in the end.
However, the brigade commander was right. These exercises didn't exist all for the sake of winning. Ye Jian's courage to challenge was indeed commendable and worth learning from.
