Prologue

Just when you think you know something it changes. Like our world, which we thought we were finally coming to understand. Kind of like some god is trying to keep us on our toes, vigilant and aware at all times. Waiting for something that might never come, just to keep us unaware of the real changes that they were making.

We got too comfortable in our naive understanding of what we grew to know as Earth. We were advancing technology at a steady pace, population was stable, and starvation rates and slums were drastically shrinking. The world was finally coming together in what we as humanity always hoped it would.

But we became arrogant. Claiming to have uncovered the true meaning of what we call life. Boasting about our supposed understanding of all things living and artificial. That should have been the turning point for humanity. Because if we understand then what is stopping us from going beyond our limitations and creating the impossible. We thought we could, and with our supposed intelligence then truly what was stopping us? Was it our instincts? Were they warning us that we were pushing our boundaries of what was acceptable and what was too much? We might never know truly, but we do know one thing.

The gods, our creators, were furious with us as a whole. Not blaming it on one race or gender but humanity as one. We pushed what we thought we knew everything about and they retaliated. There was not just one but many gods who ascended the earth that fateful day. Claiming to be our creators and informing us of our wrong doings. They ruined what we had built, erased any artificial Ai that was beyond our understanding, and made sure that we as a whole would realise what we did wrong.

We were too hasty in our advancements, trying to become more intelligent than we needed to be. The gods did not stop after that. They gathered all of the humans, nation by nation. And made one announcement. They might have destroyed our world and made it new, leaving us with beginning resources and no technology but we had a second chance. They took away what we worked hard to grasp and create so they left a 'gift' of their own behind. They erased our memories of our advancements but left the memory of what had happened that day. Like a trade off for what they had left. And a reminder.

We didn't realise it till 2 decades later. When the first 'incident' happened. A man turned 18 and on that day gained the power of ice magic. The world erupted into chaos, baffled over what had happened. Scientists could make no connection of why or how it came to be. But over the next 5 years more and more people would gain these 'abilities'.

Everytime a person turned 18 they gained a power. Or so we thought. It was becoming a regular thing in our life till some didn't get magic, they got a weapon. It was said to be gifted to them by a special person that would help guide them on their new path to wielding the weapon. It would become their specialty and help as well as protect them in their life. Just like magic.

History books were changed and schools began adapting to this new found way of life. Gaining one of these two things earned many names. The 'Awakening' or 'Coming Of Age' but it all meant the same thing. Gain a weapon and you will master it, gain power and you become a wielder of your element. From research, officials began to understand or at least grasp why this was happening. Whatever a person gained at the age of 18 helped them in some way throughout life.

They used it in their work or helped the economy. But this wasn't the only change happening in the world. Deep in the shadows malicious groups were forming, because with power comes great danger. Weapons took time to master whether you have a guide or not. Magic is weak, and without putting in the effort, it will stay that way. So the only way to combat this danger is by making places to train our protectors. People who use what they were granted for the good of humanity. They were known as the Momaru.

The protectors who trained in academies all over the globe for one purpose, to protect mankind from it's own demons and possibly something more.

This is the story of Nathaniel Grey and his path to becoming the strongest Momaru in the world. It's not an easy path to walk and has some hidden forks in the road but he can overcome his shortcomings and protect those he loves...right?
