Knowing Isn't Doing

After that little fiasco with Astor, I left immediately. Didn't want to stand in the front reception, making an easy target.

The first class I had was Theory of Magic. That was good for me, seeing as the professor for said class wasn't a total nutcase, and I excelled in theory.

I already packed everything for first period so I went straight there. The classes weren't year based, but rather a mixture of everyone in the four years who applied for it, meaning Zari was there. I sat down next to her, in the amphitheater-like room, saying nothing.

"What happened this time?" She asked.

"Astor did." I reply.

We sat in silence, for the next five minutes until Professor Sunburst appeared. I say that specifically because she just spawned on the central dias.

"Good morning class!" She didn't seem to be shouting but her voice boomed regardless. "I hope you all enjoyed your break, because you'll be wishing it was much longer soon enough."

"Oh, stop with theatrics Professor." I said

She just looked at me and smiled.

Did I mention that I adored this woman?

"Well since Kyran here thinks that I was just spewing empty threats, he gets double homework." She grinned. Everyone laughed at my expense, not knowing that I loved this subject and extra homework was a reward.

"Now, I'll be summarizing everything we have learnt since the start of the school year, seeing as you all must have forgotten.

Everything is Aether, and Aether is everything. It quite literally makes up each and every single thing in the multiverse, with infinite combinations, variations and deviations of it. Literally anything is possible if you manipulate it right. Now, when in the presence of conscious life, their thoughts, it coalesces into what is widely known as a 'Mind'. A mind is an amalgamation of everything the person has ever thought and their personalities and manifests as a plane in their head, which represents this. Then the Mind is the collective form of all the Minds in the multiverse, in which you can access the thoughts, inspiration, feelings and emotions of everyone else. It is also traversable, with distance in it directly proportional to how people in the region view the distance of said region. This also means that literally everything conceivable, and that has ever been thought, probably exists somewhere.

Then we have Realities. What a Mind views Reality to be, is what it will be. The way you view Reality and the power of your Mind, will directly affect it. Every manifestation of every magical ability is just your "Personal Reality" taking the place of "Reality" as a whole. The stronger you get, the more of Reality becomes your own.

Now, you must be thinking, If that's the case, why isn't Reality random and erratic, seeing as there are infinite conscious beings? Well this is just a theory, but we believe that an unimaginably strong being, or group of them, viewed Reality a certain way, and due to their crazy power, it became Reality. A person can theoretically reach that level and do the same thing, but come on, that would never happen."

"Well then. Any questions?"

I was the first to ask one, "If that's the case, how can someone realistically be powerless?", I asked, just out of curiosity.

"Another enigma, I'm afraid. But don't worry, it'll happen one day."

What use was all my knowledge on theoretical, when I didn't have an ounce of power in me. Knowing wasn't doing, and I had a crap to of knowledge and nothing to do with it.

I just sat there, frustrated out of my skull, what was I doing wrong? What did I do wrong? When was "one day" going to be?

I... We would burn it all when that day came. But in the meantime, we would take the abuse, every punch, kick, bruise, injury and broken bone. Every nightmare and every gram of fear. We would take it all.

And we... we would smile through it all, since pretending we weren't broken was what he was best at.
