Newbie Mishaps

Melody was working on her computer later that morning when she heard a knock on her door. She looked up and saw Ethan Pierce, one of her coworkers, standing in the doorway.

"Hey, Melody. Do you have a minute?" he asked.

"Sure, Ethan. What's up?" she replied, gesturing for him to come in.

Ethan entered the room and took a seat in one of the chairs across her desk. He was tall and muscular, with short-cropped brown hair and a chiseled jawline. He wore a crisp white shirt and black slacks that accentuated his athletic build.

Melody couldn't help but notice how attractive he was, but she quickly dismissed the idea. She needed to focus on her work and not let anything derail her.

"I was wondering if you could help me with something," Ethan said, breaking the silence.

"Sure. What do you need?" Melody asked, still trying to focus on the task at hand.

"I'm having some trouble with my computer, and I was wondering if you could take a look at it. I know you're quite tech-savvy," he said, flashing her a charming smile.

The problem with Ethan's computer turned out to be a minor software bug that prevented him from accessing his email.

Melody quickly located the issue and reinstalled the necessary program to fix it. Though the solution was simple, Ethan was nonetheless relieved and appreciative.

"Wow! You really know your stuff. I was starting to worry I wouldn't be able to get my emails today," Ethan said with a chuckle. "Thanks, Melody. You're a lifesaver. I owe you one."

Melody blushed at the compliment and tried to play it cool. "It was no problem, Ethan. I'm happy to help."

"Another thing, huh, can you sort out these cables? They look really messed. I couldn't figure out which cable for the exact ports."

She couldn't help but sigh when she saw the tangled wires at the desk.

"Oh, sure. No problem."

"Don't worry, I'll help you."

They heard a noise as they worked with the cords, and the lights in the room suddenly began to flicker. The light, which was affixed to the room's ceiling, abruptly crashed upon Ethan's head.

"Ethan, watch out!"

Then there was a loud crash as the lamp crashed to the floor, shattering into a thousand pieces.

They were both stunned.

Ethan winced as he rubbed his head. "Ah, no problem. It's just a light bulb."

"But it's still dangerous. Are you sure you're not hurt?"

"No, I'm fine. I think we should fix this now. It's just a few broken wires."

However, when Melody was trying to fix the broken cable, the room went pitch black.

"Oh, no. Now the lights are totally off."

"It's okay. I'll try to fix it," Melody said.

But when she tried to turn the light back on, there was a very loud thump. "BOOM!"

Melody and Alex were taken aback, and they quickly bolted out of the room.

"Wow, that was so horrible!"

"Yeah! It was shocking and I don't know what happened."

"Don't worry. I'm going to get a technician to fix the problem. But I think you need to stop sorting out the cables. If you want to, you can completely shut off the electricity in this building."

At the end, he burst out laughing, much to Melody's embarrassment.

Melody received a text message later in the afternoon when she got back to her desk from getting a coffee from the cafeteria and her phone buzzed. She looked at her phone and saw that it was a message from Sarah.

The message read: "Hey Melody, how is it going? I'm dying to know how it went!"

She replied: "I got the job!" Then she sent a bunch of happy emoji faces.

Melody flipped through her phone while holding the coffee cup in her left hand with a grin on her face.

Sarah was replying to her text message and Melody was so engrossed in her phone that she even failed to notice when someone cleared his throat next to her.

She slammed right arm into the man in shock as her left arm sprang up, spilling her coffee over his shirt and shoes.

Looking up at the same time, she saw that the man she'd inadvertently hit was Morgan Blodwyn.

Not only did she just hit the CEO of the company, but she slammed the coffee cup she was carrying right out of her hand to him.

"Oh gosh!" She let out a scream and dropped to her knees at his feet. How could he be here? Didn't he say he would work at his home office? She grumbled to herself quietly as she tried to reach for her purse.

"What the hell?" Morgan shouted, surprising even himself with the force of his words. He quickly jumped back and trying to dodge the hot liquid. "What were you thinking? Look what you did to my shirt and shoes!"

Melody, who had been in the process of retrieving some tissues from her purse to clean up the mess, jumped at the sound of his voice. She looked up at him with wide, apologetic eyes, her bottom lip trembling slightly.

"I'm so sorry, I didn't see you, Mr. Blodwyn. I didn't mean to spill it, I was just trying to ..." She stammered. "Let me buy you a new shirt and shoes." She said it with a trembling voice as she apologized afterwards. She was on the verge of breaking down as she was so anxious about what might happen to her later.

"Do you know how much these clothes and shoes cost?" Morgan snapped. "You're damn right! You're going to buy me new ones."

"Don't worry about it, Ms. Brynleigh." Mason's voice could be heard from close by. "The cleaning staff will handle this mess for you."

"No, let her clean," Morgan Blodwyn snarled from above.

Melody glanced up over her shoulder. Morgan looked at her with piercing blue eyes. He gave out an intensely angry look, and she dared not look at him in the eye. She went back to wiping instead. With her anxiety levels rising, it's the only thing she can think to do.

She'd totally fucked up!

"It's really fine," Mason said, sounding a little annoyed now.

"Actually, it's not fine," Morgan said. "She even spilled the coffee on my shoes."

Melody look at his shoes and gasped. He's wearing expensive leather shoes that probably cost more than a year's worth of her salary, and there was coffee splatter glistening on them. She abruptly grabbed a fresh tissue and wiped away the liquid.

Oh my goodness, I'm so embarrassed right now! She cursed to herself in her head.

"Mr. Blodwyn. I'll have these cleaned and polished. I swear."

"Mr. Winters, please return to your office," Morgan said icily. "I'll deal with this."

"Yes, sir."

As Mason left, Melody was left alone in the hallway with Morgan Blodwyn, and she was still cleaning his shoes.

When she glanced up, she saw that he had folded his arms. His expression was colder and angrier than usual. During the first day on the work, she knew she was going to be fired. That was the lowest point of her life.

Her eyes well up with tears, but she tried to suppress them.

She just hoped Morgan can end this swiftly and easily so she can go outside, start crying, and attempt to put this day behind her.
