Poster Girl

Abused and thrown away in a container, Mallory, eighteen years old, thinks that this is it; this is how her life is ending and what a tragic life it has been. But fate isn't done with her yet. Hunter Brown, a low-life gangster, is passing by an alleyway when he is alerted by the cries from a rolled-up carpet thrown in a container. She told him to let her die, but he decided to save her life. This is a novel about generations of secrets of the Wraith family being unfolded and an abused and broken girl who has to run for her life while trying to heal and start over. ________________________________________ Mallory entered the dayroom towards the kitchen with a pile of dirty plates stacked in her hands, causing heavy steps.  Seeking this opportunity, a bored Calvin Wraith tripped Mallory when she passed by where he was sitting while playing Snake on his phone. Bang! Handless, Mallory fell to the floor, and all of the plates lay scattered across the room. Mrs Wraith heard the tumult, and she stormed into the room angrily. "Stupid girl!" Mrs. Wraith scolded with a hard slap across Mollory's face. With ringing ears and tears burning in her eyes, Mallory took a short breath and tried to keep her voice steady as she pleaded, "I am sorry Mrs. Wraith. I will clean this up immediately," Mallory bowed her head and heard Calvin chuckle from the sofa, sitting with a grin, "Yes, you will. I want the room to be spotless within an hour," Mrs. Wraith demanded, shoved Mallory aside, and stormed out. "Why did you do that?" Asked Mallory with a strained voice and gazed at Calvin after Mrs. Wraith shut the door. Calvin got up and stopped inches away from a frightened Mallory. He styled his hair with too much wax, and his grey eyes were taunting her, making her more fearful of him. "Don't forget your place, slave," Calvin hissed and grabbed Mallory by the neck and pushed her up against the wall next to the window," Or do you want me to come by your room later tonight and punish you?" He whispered in Mallory's ear while she fought to breathe. She shook her head, and Calvin grinned before he freed her again. Mallory falls to the floor, tears streaming down her face.  "Clean yourself up. If my father sees you like this..." Calvin didn't finish the sentence; he didn't have to, and the raised eyebrow said it all before he left the room laughing.

Dispose Of A Body

Blade heard a sound coming from the back door, and he immediately reached for his weapon and woke Hunter up.

"Someone's by the door," Blade whispered, and Hunter nodded.

The two men held their guns and slid over the floor towards the rear door. They kept their backs against the walls, sheltered from the windows.

The noise became more assertive when they entered the hallway, and they looked at each other, silently deciding on the next move.

Hunter signaled to go straight ahead, and Blade nodded.

With a quick move, the door opens, and Hunter throws himself at the one on the other side.

After rolling on the ground, the man got the upper hand on Hunter, and Blade fired two bullets when he saw the man pull a knife.

The bullets hit the man in the chest, and his lifeless body fell over Hunter.

"Why did I hear gunfire?" Mallory cried, standing behind Blade.

Hunter rolled the man over, and they had to act fast.

He looked outside and saw lights turning on in the neighbor's house.

"Turn off the light!" Hunter ordered, and Mallory ran over and turned off the lights on the front.

"Car keys!" Hunter called, and Blade unlocked the car.

Hunter carried the body with Blade's help and threw it into the trunk.

Mallory grabbed cleaning supplies and scrubbed up the scene.

Hunter locked the place up and gave Blade the keys to the car he found on the man.

Mallory got in Hunter's car, and they took off while Blade was looking for the dead man's vehicle.

"What happens now?" Mallory asked, still shocked after what she saw. "Now we need to get rid of the body and burn the cars," Hunter replied and called a number on a disposable phone.

"I'll send you a location to pick us up in a few hours, and no questions asked," Hunter said and then gave the telephone to Mallory.

"Pick out the phone card, Mall. And then stomp on the phone." Hunter said, and Mallory did as Hunter told her.

"What about the card?" Hunter sighed; Mallory asked, "Throw it out from the window." Mallory frowned.

"How stupid?" She said, "I've read many crime books, Hunter." Mallory sighed, and then she swallowed the card. "Mallory?" Hunter shouted.

"Don't worry. It will come out eventually and then be gone forever." She replied.

"Crazy girl!" Hunter mumbled, and Mallory rolled her eyes.

"Come on? I just helped you clean up a crime scene? If I didn't clean up the blood, the police would be all over it by now. We are lucky they did not arrest us when they passed us leaving."

"Yeah, I guess," Hunter responded.

They drove silently for some time and then headed into a remote area.

"Where are we?" Mallory asks, and Hunter sighs.

"Don't think about that." He answered, and soon Blade joined them.

"So, let's do this then," Blade said while jumping out of the car.

They poured gas into the trunk where the man was and into the vehicles. "Here, Mallory," Hunter said and reached for her clothes.

"We need to change clothes and burn these we have on us," Mallory nodded, and they looked away while she changed.

"Hunter, take Mallory with you up the hill and wait," Blade said, and Hunter caught Mallory's arm and dragged her with him.

Blade lit a rag on fire, threw it into the trunk, and threw two more into the vehicles before rushing toward Hunter and Mallory.

"I found a picture of Mallory in his car... I'm certain he was a hitman." Blade announced when he reached the top of the hill.

Mallory was shocked. "Oh my god. All of this is my fault!" She mumbled nervously. "I'm so sorry..."

"Believe us, Mall; it is not the worst thing that could have happened. Of course, killing someone and getting rid of a body isn't all fun. But the two of us would do it again to protect you, wouldn't we, Hunter?" Blade said confidently.

"Yeah, we would. Now we have to make our way to the pickup point." Hunter pointed out, and they started walking through the forest.

"How long is the walk?" asks Mallory, breathless. "Shit... I forgot you were still recovering," Hunter mumbled.

"Hop on my back," He continued, and Mallory did. "You okay?" Hunter asks, "Yeah. Thank you," Mallory mumbled, and they continued through the forest.

"Isn't that your boss?" Mallory asks when they see Duncan leaning against his car in a blind passage.

"Yeah!" Blade answered, and they walked up to his car, where Hunter let Mallory down on the ground.

"So this is how you wake up your old man, huh?" Duncan said and smacked Blade and Hunter on the back of the head. "Hey!" Both men said in a choir. Mallory shook her head.

"I'm sorry, Duncan. This is all my fault.."

"No, it's not!" Hunter added.

"The lesser I know, the better," Duncan replied, putting out his cigarette on the ground. "Don't leave it there," Mallory said, and Duncan frowned. Mallory sighs.

"Never, ever leave a trace behind near a murder scene!" She uttered, annoyed, and grabbed the cigarette butt.

"Murder?" Duncan said, "As you said, boss... The lesser you know, the better? Right?" And then they jumped into the car.

They drove back to the civilization while Duncan and Hunter discussed another location to move into.

"I can't ask you guys to move again for my sake?" Mallory said from the back seat. "Don't worry, Mall," Hunter replied, and Blade elbowed her. "You're family, sis! We would go to the end of the world for you!" Mallory blushed and rested her head against the window.

Will they get away with the murder? Keep reading to find out.
