S5E23: ...A Day

After a quick meal the four of them called it a night as Jessie and James took the bed leaving the couch for Dawn and Foxx slept on the floor. Now it took a lot of debating but Foxx wouldn't move on Dawn having the couch and him on the floor.

Now the next morning Foxx was the first up as normal and quietly started to pack up their things in hopes of getting an early start without any of the usual delays or Shinning especially after the confrontation with Dawn's mother the night before. Not to mention the fact that not all of the details of that disagreement was told to his parents.

Dawn was the next to get up along with Joy who was sleeping on her lap. The trio slipped away for a quick breakfast to let the other sleep in since they'd mostly packed everything up already. Yet what was about to happen to them none of them could've ever guessed.

"Mom?" questioned Dawn at the shock of finding her mother waiting for them at the door to the hotel.

"I'll go get us a table." replied Foxx as he pushed past her heading for the a nearby dinner to find a booth for him and Dawn to hopefully have a peaceful breakfast.

"What do you want mom?" asked Dawn with her arms crossed after Foxx had pushed past them and towards the dinner across the way.

"Well, for starters missy that is no way to speak to your mother, and second I'm here because I didn't want to leave things the way we did last night." replied Dawn's mother with a sigh, "I'm sorry about last night and how I reacted towards you and Foxx. I'd really like to have a second chance if you'd let me that is."

"I'm not the one you need to ask that to." replied Dawn with her arms still crossed, "Especially seeing as he was the one who you basically called trash and worthless."

"But you're my daughter not him." replied Dawn's mother, "I could really careless about him at least at this time."

"You might want to start caring because who knows he may someday become your son-in-law." huffed Dawn pushing past her mother only stopping long enough to pause and add, "Now don't go all crazy we've not ever discussed that but you know if you keep treating the guys in my life like trash you will only ever find out after the wedding."

"Now you listen here…" Started Dawn's mother turning and sticking her finger in Dawn's face.

"No mom you listen. If all of our conversations are going to be this joyful I think I'll opt out of all future talks." huffed Dawn before she stormed off.

"I may not be mother of the year material, but trust me when I say that you're better off forgetting what ever dreams and desires you have for her and just be happy for her following her own dreams." came a call from behind Dawn's mother to which she found Jessie leaning against a nearby pillar with her arms crossed in a simple robe.

"And who exactly are you?" asked Dawn's mother.

"My name is Jessie and my son is the boy you keep treating like trash and he cares too much about your daughter to give you a right piece of his mind, nor to tell me or his father how you've treated him." replied Jessie.

"Oh did I hurt you little feelings or something?" teasing asked Dawn' mother full of sass.

"No, my feelings aren't easily hurt. I know I'm not some hot shot or great mother." replied Jessie, "Yet I wish every day to have the last ten years back but I can't. With that said I don't regret giving him to Professor Oak to raise him."

"Is that supposed to make me sympathetic to you or your son." huffed Dawn's mother sticking her nose up in the air.

"No, I just thought I'd give you a little advice one mother to another before you burn a very precious bridge that you may never get back." replied Jessie, "You don't have to like me, my husband or even our son, but you really should listen to your daughter and figure out what she wants."

"Maybe you and your trash should just get out of my life and stay out of it." huffed Dawn's mother before tuning and storming out of the hotel right towards the dinner where Foxx and Dawn currently were waiting on their order arriving.

"If you're going to start arguing you can just find somewhere else to sit at least until we're done eating." called Dawn placing a hand on Foxx's knee to prevent him from standing up and leaving.

"Now…" started Dawn's mother only for Foxx to look her in the eyes and place a hand on Dawn's

"Sit." interrupted Foxx motioning to the place next to Dawn and when she didn't move he added, "I've already ordered something for you so please sit."

"Wait, when did you order for my mother?" asked a confused Dawn as she scooted over to make room for her mother.

"The same time I ordered yours." replied Foxx with a grin before turning to look at Dawn's mother before asking, "So are you ready to have a more civilized talk or will this be a very awkward and quiet meal?"

"Despite all of my better judgement I really would like to put this all behind us and try to make whatever this is to actually work." confessed Dawn's mother with a sigh in hopes of make things right with her daughter.

"That's all I ever wanted." replied Dawn as she shuffled into the corner of the booth avoiding her mother. "Yet every person I ever brought home with me you've always acted the same."

"I'm sorry I only ever wanted the best for you, I never considered what you wanted." sighed Dawn's mother slowly looking over towards Dawn with a slight tear in her eye.

"And now you want to? What changed?" asked Dawn.

"Well, to be honest I was about to come give both of you a piece of my mind but as I made my way over here something his mother said to me in the lobby of the hotel." sighed Dawn's mother, "Actually it was what she said on top of the fact that he welcomed me here despite how I've treated him."

With that they began to discuss the future while waiting for the food to arrive and even again shortly after the food had arrived. It was indeed a fresh start to what was going to be a good relationship.
