Then a huge red flower, with white spots appeared on stage. If someone looked carefully. They would be able to see the blue main body of Vileplume, that was hidden from direct view, because of the huge red Flower.
Wes before even seeing, Vileplume's summary, returned back his Butterfree, for another Pokemon. The famous Ghost Type Pokemon that has its very own hands detached, from its own body, Haunter.
Vileplume female LV 36 Ability: Chlorophyll Item: Miracle Seed.
Moves: Absorb, Growth, Flail (Baby), Reflect (Baby), Sweet Scent, Acid, Sunny Day (TM), Razor Leaf (Tutor), Moonlight, Giga Drain, Hidden Power-Water (TM), Moonblast (Tutor), Solar Beam (TM).
As Haunter appeared, from its Pokeball. The eyes on its face disappeared. Then one eye appeared on its right hand, while another appeared on its left. Then it started to juggle, using its eyes in the place of balls.
Some girls at the stands screamed, totally scared, by this bizarre action. Leaf had facepalmed, her own face thinking, that this action, was totally expected from this Pokemon, while her friend Laura was petrified on her seat, with her hands covering her eyes.
Wes: Haunter!!!! Stop this right now.
Haunter hearing Wes, immediately grabbed both eyes, with its hands and put them back in their place. Only to realize, that in its haste, it had put the right eye on its left socket and the left eye, on the right side. So after realizing its mistake, both of its eyes started to move in a clockwise direction, until they were on their Sockets.
While this was happening. Vileplume had a very panicked look, on its face. Erika also had a look of disgust, at, what she had just seen.
Wes on the other hand, looked like a person that had already accepted his ill fate. This Haunter was really a piece of work. Why did he want a Ghost Type, in the first place. Was it because Gengar, was his favorite Ghost Type Pokemon.
Erika: All right. Lets continue with this match.
Wes: Ok.
Erika: Vileplume use Solar Beam.
Wes: Haunter use Double Team.
A Solar Beam was immediately launched by Vileplume. Haunter created 6 afterimages and all afterimages moved towards the opposing Vileplume. The Solar Beam passed right through an afterimage, missing its intended target.
Wes: Icy Wind
Erika: Vileplume Growth
Erika ordered her Pokemon to use the Growth Move. Haunter's Typing resisted her strongest Moves, so Erika decided to power up her Pokémon, in order to deal with the opposing, Ghost and Poison Type Pokemon. Haunter on the other hand blew out a chilling wind. Even though it was a super effective hit, Vileplume didn't take a lot of damage thanks to its very high SPDef Stat, as well as the low base power of the Icy Wind Move. But what Icy Wind lacks in power, it makes up with its secondary effects, that lowers the opponent's Speed Stat by 1 stage.
Wes: Hypnosis.
Erika: Dodge and use Razor Leaf.
Haunter conjured 3 golden rings made out of psychic energy. Then with a flick of its right hand, the rings moved towards, the opposing Pokemon. Vileplume dodged the hypnotic waves and counterattacked with its Razor Leaf Move. Then the sunny weather dissipated.
Wes: Icy Wind.
Erika: Sunny Day.
Haunter before Vileplume, could find its balance, realised again its Icy Wind. Icy Wind found its target, lowering its Speed stat, yet again.
Wes: Icy wind again Haunter.
Vileplume finally balanced itself and it immediately use its Sunny Day Move, in order to counter the Speed drop, thanks to its Ability. But then a second Icy Wind hit it again.
Erika: " If this continues, it will be a repeat of the previous match. Chlorophyll is still doing its job, but if he lowers my Speed more, i will need to switch out my Vileplume."
Erika thought of countermeasures, in order to escape her predicament, but Wes had other plans.
Erika: Moonblast Vileplume.
Wes: Haunter use Mean Look.
Vileplume then launched an energy ball made out of lunar energy, Haunter on the other hand dodged the attack and suddenly, a mysterious glint appeared in its eyes. Then a strange aura covered, the opposing Pokemon.
"Dammit. I can't switch out now".
Erika got very frustrated at that result. Her strategy and plan had been countered yet again.
(Mean Look, was a Move, introduced in Gen2. The Opponent the Move was used on, cannot flee or switch.
Competitively, the Move, along with similar moves (Block, Whirlpool, Fire Spin, ech), didn't find that much success, though there were cases, that it worked very well.
There was a Mega Sableye set, that used Mean Look+Spite to trap and PP stall certain mons that would give the Stall team trouble, and a few players dabbled with Mean Look/Encore/Recover.
Mean Look+Perish Song did see use in some previous Gens. PerishTrap has become a bit of a meme strat nowadays. )
Erika: Growth.
Wes: Use Icy Wind.
Vileplume use Solar Beam.
Erika's Vileplume started to glow, increasing its SPAtk and Atk stats again by 2 more stages, while Haunter hit it again with its Icy Wind Move, lowering, Vileplume's Speed even more. Then, Vileplume launched its Solar Beam Move, towards the opposing Haunter.
Wes: Sucker Punch.
Haunter suddenly disappeared from its original spot. Then it appeared, behind the opposing Vileplume, striking it with a fist, completely covered by darkness. Because of the sudden hit, the Solar Beam, smashed a nearby wall.
Erika: Vileplume Moonlight.
Wes: Hypnosis Haunter.
Erika: Dodge!!!!!
Vileplume started to gather Moonlight in order to heal itself, but the sudden order of its trainer, made to cancel its action, as it dodged the Hypnotic rings, its opponent, had thrown towards it. Then, the harsh sunlight dissipated.
Erika: Sunny Day.
Wes: Haunter Confuse Ray.
Vileplume brought back to the battlefield, the harsh sunlight effect. Haunter, on the other hand, inflicted the confuse status on its opponent.
Erika: Moonlight.
Wes: Hypnosis.
Vileplume started to gather moonlight, while Haunter launched three golden hypnotic rings. While Vileplume recovered its HP, the Hypnosis Move of Haunter found its mark, putting Vileplume to sleep.
Erika: No Vileplume.
Erika started to get very worried. She had only 2 Pokemon left, and her current Pokemon, had fallen asleep and she couldn't switch it out because of the previous Mean Look Move.
Wes: Icy Wind.
Haunter once again used its Icy Wind Move, hitting the sleeping Vileplume.
Wes: Icy Wind.
Vileplume once again got hit by the Icy Wind Move, of its opponent. Vileplume then opened its eyes. The confuse status condition that the Vileplume suffered was finally over.
Erika: Great Vileplume use Moonblast.
Wes: Haunter use Foul Play.
Vileplume immediately gathered moonlight to launch its Moonblast Move, but thanks to the -6 Speed Stat, even with its Overgrowth Ability, while in the harsh sunlight, Haunter managed to strike first. Haunter cloaked itself in dark energy and tackled its opponent. At the time of contact, the darkness enveloping Haunter, transferred to the Opposing Pokemon. Vileplume couldn't resist any more damage and immediately fainted.
All the spectators on the stands had, horrifying expressions on their faces. They had seen Erika lose before to previous challengers, but this time was different. This challenger had the absolute Type advantage. But he also had prepared a counter plan to all of the Gym Leader's plans.
Laura: Leaf.... What kind of a freak is your friend????
Leaf: I don't know.
Leaf really didn't know, what short of an answer, she could give to her friend.
" I thought that since i trained here. I should have closed the gap by quite a bit. But why does it appear that Wes got even further away from my reach?????"
This was the only thing on her mind. After training In the Gym, with many of her Pokemon evolving and even, her new team member, she thought that she had closed the gap, only to realize, that the gap had widened even more.
Erika then switched out her defeated Vileplume. A cute Bellosom took its place.
Bellosom female LV 36 Ability: Chlorophyll Item: Heat Rock.
Moves: Absorb, Growth, Charm (Baby), Sunny Day (Baby), Sweet Scent, Acid, Giga Drain(TM), Razor Leaf (Tutor), Moonlight, Magic Leaf, Hidden Power-Fire (TM), Moonblast (Tutor), Solar Beam (TM).
Wes: Great job Haunter. Nidorino take the stage.
Then the Poison Type Nidorino appeared, ready for battle.
Erika: Growth Bellosom.
Wes: Nidorino use Toxic.
Erika: Dodge!!!!
Bellosom started to emit a white light, but it immediately stopped and dodged the Toxic Move Nidorino launched at it. The harsh sunlight dissipated, returning the weather condition on the battlefield, back to normal.
Wes: Use Focus Energy.
Erika: Sunny Day Bellosom.
Nidorino immediately began to focus all its energy increase its critical rate by 2 stages. Bellosom, on the other hand, brought the harsh sunlight weather condition on the battlefield again. Thanks to the Heat Stone that Bellosom had, the harsh sunlight would persist longer than before.
Erika: Solar Beam.
Wes: Sucker Punch.
Because of the weather condition, Bellosom launched its Solar Beam Move immediately. Nidorino suddenly disappeared and reappeared right behind its opponent. Then Nidorino struck Bellosom with its Sucker Punch Move.
Erika: Solar Beam.
Wes: Take it. Then use Ice Beam.
Bellosom then launched its Solar Beam Move at Nidorino again. The Solar Beam found its target and then with a huge boom, dust floated everywhere after the huge explosion. Then an azure ray passed right through the dust and hit the Bellosom for super effective damage. The hit was also a critical hit.
Erika: Bellossom Moonlight.
Wes: Toxic.
Bellosom, thanks to the harsh sunlight weather condition restored 2/3 Max HP (75%).
(Moonlight restores the user's current HP based on the weather in the battle. During no weather it restores ½ total HP, during harsh sunlight it restores ⅔ total HP, and during other weather it restores ¼ total HP, rounded down).
As Bellosom recovered its HP. Nidorino took aim against its immobile target and launched its Toxic Move, badly poisoning its target.
Erika: Hidden Power.
Wes: Sucker Punch.
Bellosom then unleashed the fiery colored Hidden Power towards Nidorino, but Nidorino avoided and counter attacked with its Sucker Punch Move scoring a critical hit.
Erika: Solar Beam.
Wes: Nidorino Protect.
Bellosom unleashed its Solar Beam Move towards to Nidorino. Nidorino was enveloped by a protective green dome that deflected the Solar Beam.
Wes: Sludge Bomb.
Erika: Dodge it!!!!!
Bellosom narrowly avoided the huge poisonous bomb.
Erika: Magic Leaf.
Wes: Return!!!!!
Then Bellosom counter attacked with a storm of ever changing rainbow coloured leafs. Nidorino charged, right through the Magic Leaf Move of its opponent. Thanks to its increased Speed, Bellosom was able to dodge the attack of its opponent.
Erika: Solar Beam.
Wes: Protect.
The green protective dome deflected the Solar Beam Move of Bellosom, yet again. The weather condition of the battlefield returned back to normal. Bellosom also started to look like, it was out of breath.
Wes: Nidorino Ice Beam.
Erika: Dodge and use Magic Leaf.
Bellosom dodged the azure ray, and immediately counter attacked.
Wes: Take it and use Sludge Bomb.
Nidorino took the hit like a champ. But the continuous hits it received started to take their tol on it. Nidorino immediately attacked with a huge poison bomb.
Bellosom: Bellloooosoom!!!!!!!!
Bellosom screamed in pain. But it managed to hang on thanks to its willpower. But then the continuous damage from its poison status delt the final blow. Bellosom had fainted. This Gym battle was almost a complete sweep from the challenger.
