CHAPTER 36 – THE LEGEND OF THE CRYSTAL ONYX

After checking that everything was fine and all three of them had pulse, I sat on the floor relieved and checked if Manaphy's egg was safe.

"Please, be fine" – I said.

When I looked at the backpack I could see that not even the incubator had suffered a scratch.

"How can it be that the incubator has not been damaged after falling from such a height?" – I wondered.

I kept thinking about my things for a while, until finally, the girls got up.

"Where are we?" – Roxanne asked as soon as she opened her eyes.

"Ugh... my head hurts" – Celeste said.

"Pika pi..." – Pikachu said grabbing his head.

"Girls, I'm glad you're okay" – I said with a smile.

Then, I hugged them all and, after letting them rest for a while and checking that we were all in the best condition, we started thinking about what to do.

"How is it possible that there is such a huge hole right in the middle of the road to begin with?" – Celeste wondered.

"Yes, it's weird, the Pokémon League check all the roads and fix them if they need to be fixed, of course" – Roxanne nodded.

This is most likely due to Team Rocket, but... I don't know whether to say it, although Celeste and I faced them once... I don't know them well enough to know if it's them, well, I do, but in this world we've only met them once and Celeste doesn't know that they've actually been chasing us since we entered Pewter City, how do I know? Well, in the anime Team Rocket appears even earlier, so most likely they have been following us since then, the strange thing is that they have not ambushed us before.

What Ash didn't know is that they had already tried to do it in the MT. Moon, but thanks to Verity they avoided the trap.

"Maybe the environment isn't conducive or Pokémon haven't found this place?" – Roxanne suggested.

"No idea... wait a minute... do you hear that?" – Celeste suddenly said.

"What?" – we both asked.

"Sshhh, shut up and listen" – Celeste said.

We both nodded and even Pikachu did.

At first, we didn't hear anything at all, but soon after we started hearing like there was a waterfall or something, it was the sound of water!

"It's water!" – Roxanne said.

"Yes, I think we will finally be able to get out of this cave!" - Celeste nodded.

"Come on, we have no time to lose!" – I said.

"Pika pi!" – Pikachu nodded.

Without further delay, the 4 of us hurriedly headed to where the sound of the water was coming from and soon, we arrived at an amazing place.

There were no Pokémon, plus the place was very large and in front of it there was what seemed to be a small lake or a spring, I don't know exactly, but what I did know is that there was a waterfall through which the water came out.

"It's beautiful..." – Celeste said.

"Yes, it's very beautiful, but... we haven't found the way out yet" – Roxanne said somewhat disappointed.

But just as she was about to say something, we heard a voice.

"Huh? Why are there people here? I thought no one had discovered this place, I mean, there aren't even Pokémon inhabiting the area" - said a voice.

Nervous, we turned around only to find a man who looked to be in his early 20s, his appearance was quite normal, he had black hair in the shape of a "w", black eyes, he was wearing a fuchsia t-shirt and blue jeans.

"Who are you?" – I asked unconsciously.

"I would like to know that, how were you able to discover this place?" – asked the boy.

"We fell through a hole a few meters from here and when we walked, we suddenly found ourselves in this place" – I said.

"I see... what bad luck... whatever, my name is Mateo and I am a sculptor of Pokémon figures, mainly crystal carving, nice to meet you" – said Mateo.

Then, he came up to us and held out his hand to me.

Mateo... why does his name sounds me? I think I know who he is but I can't remember, glass figurines?

"A pleasure" – I said.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, I'm Celeste, from Viridian City" – Celeste said.

"I am Roxanne from the Hoenn region" – Roxanne said.

"And I'm Ash from Pallet Town and this is my friend and partner, Pikachu and I'm a Pokémon trainer" – I said.

"Oh, what a homogeneous group, but since you have told me your origins, it would be rude not to give you mine, my name, as I said before, is Mateo and I am a famous sculptor originally from Sunburst Island, from the Orange Archipelago" – said Mateo.

"Oh, do you come from the Orange Archipelago?" – I asked surprised.

The Orange Archipelago, some islands that Ash traveled through and where he got some gym "badges" and then, he won the Pokémon League, was not a very good season (for me), but there were several episodes that I liked a lot, specifically one known as "The Crystal Onyx"

In this episode, Ash and his friends travel to an island and help a sculptor find the famous Crystal Onyx... I hope, I remember who this man is! He is the sculptor that Ash and the others help in order to find the Crystal Onyx!

"That's right, I know I'm a little far from home, but... I needed to come to Kanto for a certain matter" – said Matthew.

"Excuse me, I know it's rude to ask you something like that, but... What's that issue?" – I asked.

"Hmm, I guess it's okay to tell you, after all, the whole island knows, besides, for some reason, I know I can trust you" – said Matthew.

"What is it about?" – Celeste asked curiously.

"You see, I have come to Kanto because I have suspicions that the famous Crystal Onyx lives here, right in this cave" – said Matthew.

"Crystal onyx? What kind of Pokémon is that?" – Roxanne asked in amazement.

She had never heard of such an Onyx, even though she was an expert in rock-type Pokémon.

"The Crystal Onyx is a Pokémon that is believed to be a legend, it is said that, unlike normal Onyx, this Onyx has its body entirely made of crystal, it is a unique Onyx that is believed to be a myth" – said Mateo.

"I see... Sounds interesting, but... you yourself just said that it is a myth" – Celeste said.

"That is what we believed, but I know that it is real, in fact, in my home, there is a cave where in the past, several people saw the famous crystal Onyx, so I decided to investigate, but I could not find one no matter how much I searched and I spent months looking night and day" - sighed Mateo.

He still remembered the sleepless nights looking for the Onix, but in the end he found nothing at all.

"I understand, but then... What are you doing here? I mean, this is Kanto, not Orange Archipelago" – I said.

"True, I couldn't find the Onyx, but buried near the cave lake, in my home I mean, I found an ancient book written by someone, which said that he had discovered that the crystal Onyx was hidden in a cave in Kanto, so I came as soon as I read it and, after a lot of research and with the help of my Pokémon, I managed to find this cave" – said Mateo.
