Chapter 10: Reunion

Lucifer saw her as soon as she arrived at the party, her raven hair swept up into an updo to reveal the elegant lines of her pale neck. Alix carried herself with all the grace of a top predator, her heels silent against the stone as she stepped out into the courtyard party. This was the closest he'd gotten to her in years and she was just as divine as he remembered, the sight of her causing a very real smile to part his lips. Unfortunately for him, he was busy playing host and could only watch as Alix was quickly led away from his line of sight by an over-familiar young man. He didn't find her again until later in the evening when the sound of a jaunty tune on a piano reached his ears.

Lucifer was mesmerized, watching the soft smile play at her lips that he hadn't seen there in centuries.

He hadn't wanted to approach her tonight for fear of scaring her off, but he found his feet carrying him forward through the crowd in the hope of hearing her voice again for the first time in what felt like an eternity.

Mercury eyes glittered up at him over the piano.

"Good evening, Miss," he trailed off, wordlessly asking what name she was going by at the moment.

"Alixsandra McÁed," Alix answered with a charming smile, a thin veil over the icy look in her eyes and the thin press of her lips, "You must be Lucius Avel." There was such disrespect in her words and in the smile that twisted across her lips it had Lucifer relishing the thought of punishment.

But there were people watching so he reined in his temper even as her smile turned more malicious at the sight.

"This sort of behavior is why the locals think you a demon, Miss McÁed," Lucifer lowered his voice and a humorless laugh escaped her lips.

"I assure you, that is not why they think me a demon," her gaze flicked to something beyond his soldier before she stopped playing the piano, "And with that, my dear Luci, I fear I really must be leaving." She turned her back on Lucifer and stood, lifting her Navajo companion to his feet and they wove through the crowd. Lucifer watched them go with a mix of annoyance and relief at seeing her treat him with such flippancy after they'd spent so long apart.

After seeing her again he was certain, he still loved her.

She was still his.
