Chapter 17

A big thanks to @ ashuadvik

The sun rays peeked through the curtains of Evie's room, making Evie yawn and stretch. She tried to close her eyes hard but there was nothing she could do because it was already the dawn of a new day.

Lackadaisically, she stood up from the bed, she stretched and yawned before her gaze landed on Juicy who was still asleep.

Evie could not remember how they fell asleep, all she could remember was Juicy giving her a warm hug.

She shrugged and went to the toilet because she felt the need to ease herself.

"Good morning and happy Sunday!" Juicy greeted when Evie came out of the toilet.

"Happy Sunday to you too" Evie reciprocated the greetings.

"I have to go now, else my parents would be worried about me, '' Juicy stated, gathering her things together.

Evie could only nod her head and helped Juicy gather her things.

Evie escorted Juicy outside and stood with her till a cab driver surfaced, bidding each other goodbye before Evie decided to jog home.

"Did you go for a run?" Richard asked his daughter immediately after she entered the sitting room, panting.

"Morning dad," Evie greeted and she did not even wait for a response, she walked away.

"Congratulations on your engagement party," Evie heard Eric say as she climbed the stairs, she whipped her head around to view him.

"Thank you, Eric, I owe you one" Evie smiled, this elderly man had always played a role of a father to her when her real parents were making all the money in the world without giving her the love, time and affection a child needed.

Just as Evie was talking to Eric, Richard and Sonia surfaced and Evie took that as an opportunity to strike.

"Thank you Eric for being a fatherly figure to me, for being there for me during my thick and thin, for training me into who I am today, for all your love and affection towards me, you were there for when my so-called biological parents were making too much money for their selfish interest, you treated me like I am your daughter and if there is a next world, I would want you to be my biological dad," Evie sincerely appreciated, even though she used it as a medium for her parents to know that they were valueless to her.

Eric was stunned by her appreciation, not just that but she said it in front of her parents. Evie had an eye-to-eye battle with her parents, her eyes were filled with pain, hurt and anger.

[A/N: one word for Evie's parents?]

Evie dashed into her room, leaving her parents and Eric flustered.

"Excuse me," Eric bowed and left.

"I am losing my daughter!" Sonia yelled as she sat on the stairs

"my only daughter! I am losing my only child!" Sonia added as the tears fell from her eyes.

"What should I do Richard, I can't believe my daughter is so hostile towards me!" Sonia continued.

"As I said earlier, she would get over it soon and she would see reasons with us," Richard replied.

"Soon you say? Did you look into her eyes? Did you see the pain, hurt, anger, the feeling of being betrayed in her eyes? Seriously speaking, I am beginning to feel it is a wrong idea to ask Evie to marry Ezekiel" Sonia's statement seemed to have angered Richard.

"Evie is going to marry Ezekiel and no one can stop it! Can you even hear yourself speak? It is not a wrong idea to marry my daughter to Ezekiel! The earlier she accepts her responsibilities, the better it is for her!" Richard thundered.

"I am going to make Evie forgive me! She has to! I can't live with my daughter who sees me as a stranger. Not having a child is far better than having one who does not recognize you and sees you as a stranger," Sonia said, getting up and climbing the stairs.

"However you want to go about it then do it, but never promise her that she is not going to marry Ezekiel because even if it takes my last drop of blood, she would MARRY him. Period!" Richard said and walked back into the sitting room.

Sonia stared at her husband till he was out of sight, 'was he not bothered about Evie ignoring him?' Sonia asked herself.

Luckily for her, Evie's door was open so she entered.

"Leave my room this instant!" Evie who was backing her ordered

"My darling, just hear me out, please!" Sonia pleaded.

"I said leave, I don't want to hear anyone out!" Evie yelled.

"I am not leaving without explaining things to you," Sonia sounded firm.

"Oh Christ Jesus! Just leave before I do something we both would not like!" Evie pleaded this time around, only her mother's face can ruin her happy mood.

"I know I have caused you pain but I want to make amends!" Sonia pleaded.

"Make amends my foot!" Evie roared as she turned around and her mother gasped, her daughter was not angry, she was mad!

"You want to make amends huh? Listen to me Mrs Tan, amends are not acceptable because they can never make things brand new. Where were you when I needed you the most? When I needed a mother to guide me?. You were too busy making money, money that would be able to feed the whole nation!. You failed mom! You failed woefully in the responsibility of a mother, you are not even worthy to be called mom!" Evie spat out,

Sonia swallowed it deeply, she took everything in like as if she deserved it, yes! She deserved it!

"I am sorry but I was doing all this for you!" Sonia stated.

"For me?" Evie snorted

"I never asked for any of your excess wealth, I just needed my parents, I wanted them to give me the love, the time and affection, yet there were not there to give me all those, please I beg you, Mrs Tan, just leave, all those memories are too sad to remember" Evie breathed out heavily.

Sonia stared at her daughter before using the door, the moment she was out of sight, Evie slid to the ground. She did not want to remember any of those painful memories of her childhood.
