Beast (1)

A couple of days have passed since I have escaped that house which seemed more like a nightmare. I have gotten accustomed to my situation, but still don't know what's happening.

I got off of the bed that was a little too high for a child my age. It turned out that Daniel was lying about my age all along. I wasn't sixteen.

Although I was lied to about my age, it wasn't like I knew what my age was right now anyway.

But why did he lie? And about my age at that?

I pondered as I walked out of the big, almost empty room that I had been staying in for a couple of weeks now. It had white walls with small square windows. Two to be exact. I wasn't exactly allowed to open them, but they gave me comfort.

At least I know I can escape if I'm ever in danger.

I walked down the quiet hallway that seemed to be too long and narrow at the moment. I had been allowed to leave my room and was shown the way to some basic areas of the building that I had been brought to.

But considering that I was now all alone in the empty darkened hallway, in the middle of the night, didn't help my journey to my destination. And the fact that I was going to the washroom, made it even worse.

To put it simply, I was scared out of my wits, which was saying a lot for a kid my age. Most of them would not even leave their room in the middle of the night.

I placed my small chubby hands on the wall next to me as I took small steps towards the washroom. The feeling of the rough paint on my smooth fingers sent a weird sensation through my body. It felt as though I was touching scales on a lizard. It was cool to the touch.

I kept taking small steps as I looked to see if anyone else was around. The trip to the washroom in the middle of the night felt as though I was travelling through the underworld.

This was a bad idea, I thought as shivers were sent down my spine at the slightest sound that was produced. But when you gotta go, you gotta go.

I held my head up high as my resolve strengthened to the max. I was going to be a brave child that is able to go to the washroom by herself. I nodded as my steps increased in distance and speed.

My baby steps turned into a proper walk as I convinced myself that nobody would suddenly creep up behind me and take me to that wretched house. But all my resolve went down the drain when I heard a loud growl.

That was all it took to send me bolting towards the bathroom, which was at the end of the hallway. I didn't dare look back as I let go of the wall to gain more speed in my chubby legs. I felt as though I could run a marathon with the way I was running.

Finally, I arrived at the washroom. I didn't think twice as I entered the washroom and closed the door behind me, not forgetting to turn on the light as well.

What was that growl? Was it a beast?

I did my business in the washroom as I tried to figure out why a beast would be inside the building.

Maybe I'm hallucinating again? There's no way a beast can be inside the building.

I washed my hands, swiftly drying it as I turned towards the door. I gulped as I opened the door slightly to check if the beast was out there or not.

Even if it is a hallucination, it's better to be safe than sorry, right?

I looked out the small sliver of the door that I opened up. Nothing. There was nothing in the hallway. I opened up the door slightly more. Still nothing.

Maybe I was just hallucinating. With that thought, I opened up the door fully as I took a step outside of the washroom.

I resumed my baby steps as I headed back to my room. I should probably tell them that I'm starting to hallucinate noises now.

I nonchalantly headed back to my room, my hand again rested against the wall. It wasn't that I was scared this time, but it was nice to know that I was going in the right direction. Although my sense of direction was good because of all the time I had been blind, there was always a chance that I could make a wrong turn and end up in an unknown area of the building.

Now that I think about it, how did I get back my eyesight? No matter how much I asked, they only gave vague answers. They said I was never blind and that I was just stuck in a nightmare the whole time.

But that couldn't be true...I'm sure that the house I was in before was real. And I was being experimented on until they rescued me from there.

I was lost in thought until I heard a few murmurs coming from a room that was two doors away from where I was standing now. The door to the room was opened slightly, showing that the light was on inside the room.

I headed closer to the door, trying to hear what was being said. As I got closer to the room, the voices started to get clearer. It was a heated conversation between two people. Two people that I was not well acquainted with.

"Do you think we should tell her?" One of them said.

"No, I think she's been through too much already," the deep-voiced man replied without any hesitation.

"But she deserves to know!"

"To know what? That right as we left the house, her body changed from that of a teen to that of a child's!"

Wait, so I was really sixteen then? Then why did I become a child?

"Exactly! Maybe she knows why that happened! We could ask her-" The voice was cut off as the deep-voiced man spoke angrily.

"Ask her so she could remember all of the horrible things that happened to? I would rather not recover those painful memories that she was forced to forget!"

No way...My memories were erased? My don't I-

My thoughts were interrupted by a loud growl behind me. I quickly turned around as the creature jumped on me.

I fell back, the creature on me, as I released an ear-piercing scream.
