Chapter 58

[Third Person's PoV]

Lucian laid on top of his cabin with his hands over his head, stargazing and deep in thought.

Suddenly a ladder appeared at the side and after a few seconds Annabeth's head popped up, "I see, I figured you would be out here, you always did love to stargaze during our trip"

"What are you doing here Annabeth?" Lucian asked without taking his eyes off the night sky.

"I was hoping you could answer some of my questions? Do you mind?"

"Nah"

Annabeth nodded her head and climbed up to the roof and laid next to him joining him on his watch.

"What's got you so curious that you had to find me in the middle of the night?"

"Well I was just wondering… what was that all about? I like to think I know you pretty well and what I know doesn't match with what you're doing. Sure you're egoistic…"

"Oi" he interrupted,

But Annabeth continued, "But not to the point you would build a statue of yourself right in the middle of the camp. The only reason I can come up with is motivation, but for what? To fight you? Sure we can say that, but you could have gone about it a different way, if that was solely the case, which I doubt"

"Let me reason that question with another question… Why are we born?"

"What?" She turns to look at Lucian with a questioning gaze.

"With beings known as Fate existing, what purpose do we have by coming into existence?" Lucian asked, raising his hands to his face.

"Annabeth, I'm sure you know more than anyone how strong I am. But why was I giving this strength? Here's a bit of information barely anyone knows about me… I'm more of a divine being than I am mortal."

Annabeth looks at Lucian in shock, "What's that supposed to mean?"

"My mother wasn't just a random witch with the ability to use magic, my mother was the granddaughter of a Titan, beings that have given birth to Gods."

"Woah…" she muttered, "Is that why you're so powerful? I see why now… but that still doesn't answer my question?"

"I'm getting there, I'm getting there… So that once again begs the question, why was I born, why was I made so strong… What is my divine purpose?"

He pauses and turned towards Annabeth with a smile,

"I-I don't know" she stuttered.

"Good, since I don't know either. It would have been weird if you did" He teases with a smirk.

"Although I don't know, I have a feeling things would at some point turn hectic. Every strong demigod born always faces challenges that seem impossible to complete. Who knows what could happen to me? This place could be attacked and thrown into a war for all I know. Which is why I did what I did earlier.

You were somewhat right, it was for motivation, I hope to become something they want to defeat, I want them to keep getting stronger and stronger in hopes of beating me, if we were thrown into a war then all of this training would help them have a fighting chance"

Annabeth's eyes widened in shock, unable to believe what she was hearing, "What's the other reason?" She asked, her expression going from shock to serious.

Lucian's ear turned slightly red and turned his head away, not being able to look at Annabeth due to feeling embarrassed, something Annabeth quickly noticed. She just gave Lucian a curious gaze and waited for him to get comfortable speaking.

"I-I was thinking how cool it would be if I can become a symbol of morality towards everyone... if we did go into a war, I want everyone to look at my face on the statue and think 'With him backing us up, there's just no way we're going to lose'"

Lucian covered his face with his hand in embarrassment.

But Annabeth didn't think so she just smiled towards Lucian, "I think that's lovely Lucian…" she softly said

Her expression then turned awkward, "So what would happen if you actually lost?"

"Then I wouldn't have the right to lead or become a morality symbol" He immediately answered.

"I see…" her expression turned to that of pondering.

"What?" He asked, noticing her expression.

"I feel like there's more to it. I just can't put my finger on it" she muttered.

Lucian didn't say anything and just gave her an amused look before returning to look at the stars.

'Just am I missing…' She thought looking back towards everything he said, from when he first constructed the statue to now, she remembered everything he said and started to study it carefully.

She stood up from where she was sitting and looked around towards the statue before looking all around. Then it clicked, she turned towards Lucian, looking at him with her mouth agape,

"You plan to enchant it and make it a barrier to protect this place!" She said, still looking at him with surprise.

Lucian then started laughing, "and how did you come up with such a theory?"

She smirked as she explained, "Firstly, you called the statue a gift towards the camp, then in the place you built it… it's perfectly placed in the middle of the entire camp, and when I say perfectly in the middle I mean right in the center of camp. And then you literally just came back from training in a place called the city of magic."

She pulled out her two daggers which she always carried with her, and presented to him "Earlier today I told Luke you enchanted these daggers, which shows you are skillful at enchanting objects. And let's not forget that you said there could potentially be a war in this place. Normally when you have a feeling about something it comes true, if the months we spent together is any indication.

With everything together, 'Giving a gift towards the camp, the location of it, you being able to enchant, your feelings on the matter, and wanting everyone to have a surviving chance, the only conclusion I could come to was that you were going to use the statue for something magical related.

It being a barrier is something I just guessed since it's the most logical, it could be for something else for all I know, I just know your going to use the statue for something like that"

When she finished her reasoning, she looked at Lucian expectantly to see if she got it right, but all she saw was Lucian chuckling and shaking his head.

She thought she was wrong but before she could say anything else…

"Only you Annabeth" Lucian said, chuckling.

"Hmm?"

He just looked at her and grinned, "Only you could have come up with the write answer with so little clues"

Annabeth quickly turned smug when she realized she was right.

Lucian then sat up and brushed his hair back as he looked at Annabeth with a serious expression, "What we've discussed here should not be discussed with absolutely no one else"

"What about Luke and Thalia, I feel they should know about it too." Annabeth asked worriedly.

But Lucian just shook his head, "It's best not to worry them, so promise me you will keep quiet about this, this is something only you should know as you, yourself, figured it out." He said while looking directly into her eyes.

Annabeth turned contemplative before reluctantly nodding her head, "Okay, I promise. This will just be between the two of us"

Lucian nodded, before waving her off, "Now shoo, it's past your bedtime"

Annabeth simply rolled her eyes before leaving as she was getting pretty tired and it was already the middle of the night.

As she went and put away the ladder she turned to look at Lucian's cabin before smiling and shaking her head as she headed back to her own cabin sleeping till the next day…
