She nods and continues, "When Tom and I entered the tavern one morning there was a large group of shady men waiting for us. They wanted Tom to hide them as there were supposed to meet someone important there with only a few guards. The meeting was with a nobleman and they agreed was that no more than three men be present at the meeting, and they wanted to hide additional men in the tavern. Tom refused, and they knocked him out and tied us both up. They threw us in the cellar. I was able to get out of my restraints and went over to a hole in the cellar and was able to see what happened next. The meeting went south, and the shady men ended up killing the nobleman and his men with the help of their own men hiding in the tavern. I recognized the nobleman immediately as he was a rather infamous character who often used thugs to intimidate people. I overheard one of the shady men say to take care of the two prisoners in the cellar. I untied Tom and woke him up, quickly telling him what happened; he made a makeshift club out of one of the cellar cabinets. When the bandit entered he knocked him out by hitting him from behind. Tom told me to search the body and take anything I found. I did and found quite a few valuables… including a fancy looking dagger. We then went upstairs hoping to escape, but we ran into two bandits watching the back door. Tom fought them and told me to run. I did, but before I left town I sold the valuables I found to a local merchant I knew. I then headed south with a trade caravan. I started getting worried that it was a mistake as the bandits might be able to track me, so I left and saw your keep in the distance. After asking a nearby traveler whose it was, I found out it belonged to a mercenary group who was known to resolve people's problems."
