Chapter 47

"What's that alarm for?" I shouted to hear myself over my vibrating eardrums.

The alarm was insanely loud, and I knew for sure that if the doctor in the penthouse with Vivian could hear it, she was now wide awake.

"They're onto us," Ryan yelled. "We need to leave. Now." He made a move to push another floor's button.

Kendra blocked him, her dark eyes flashing. "We're going to Shane's office."

Ryan held up his hands and shook his head. "You sure that's the best idea?"

She didn't answer.

The elevator sank deeper into the building as the alarm knocked my insides together. When the doors opened on the thirty-third floor, the three of us cautiously stepped out of the elevator, the corridor empty and dark except for more red lasers. Since Kendra knew where she was going, she led the way to the end of a hall. The last door on the right was made of blue glass with the word President stenciled in fancy white letters on it. Kendra stuck her key in the lock and twisted.
