Chapter 18 Adaptation and Degeneration
The Annasi Species (to which human belong), the Ankanix Species (to which the Phoenix herd belong), and the Tianiyn Species (to which the Dragon clan and Qilin clan belong) were several among the many species that existed in the universe.
Because of the sheer number of varying races across the universe, it was hard to define each of them clearly or to group each race from the same species with another race.
Admittedly, modern science and the field of biology have made great efforts in organism classification by introducing the Taxonomic Rank.
Biologists tried to relate, categorize, and form groups based on their organic structure, appearance, behavior, genetic similarity, etcetera. They generally classify each type of creature they found into the hierarchy of species, genus, family, order, class, phylum, kingdom, and domain, grouping them as life forms.
This was what was taught to those studying modern biology.
However, these classifications could only be done under one preconceived assumption: life's evolution theory was true, and other related hypotheses were applicable.
The most famous example put forward by biologists that became the 'evidence' for proving the evolution theory was human evolution.
In the past, a self-proclaimed scientist had pushed aside what he called a 'biased opinion that was detrimental to scientific discovery' and made a new hypothesis.
As a youngster intending to achieve success and gain recognition in the scientific field, he proposed his evolution theory. By going against the opposition of his mentor and teachers and the opinions of his peers, he excluded the teachings of the holy scripture and Testament.
By excluding the influence of religions, myths, and tradition, he proposed his idea and theory: humans had evolved from primate apes.
It could be said it was one of the most arrogant theories made by a frog in a well.
Whenever Lu Yang read about it, even years ago when he was young, he had always been amused at how foolish this guy was. Acting like a clown, proposing an unfounded theory based on his immature approach, the clown somehow convinced a group of scientists like himself.
Over time and generations, the guy's proposed theory was accepted and used by others for centuries. It was so ridiculous Lu Yang was disdainful and had scoffed him off in his heart.
(of course, he could only say it in his heart since his teacher and professors had also accepted and applied it to their research. If he talked it out loud, he would get beaten!)
Although the proposition was rejected at that time, later, many biologists began to try to push the theory onto the pedestal of science by continuing to prove this theory.
By taking the specimens and 'evidence' they had found over time and compiled them. They then conjure up their imagined process of history, explaining and filling in the blank history with their speculation. Using the specimens from millions of years ago, they somehow manage to 'deduce' and say the creature evolved. After several generations, this hypothesis, initially a mere speculation, was treated as a valid theory and accepted by many biologists.
Despite having limited knowledge with only decades of experience, they tried to fill in the blanks about evolution itself even when evidence was severely lacking. Ridiculous!
It could be said that they introduced various theorems to justify what they discovered after observing the changes in animals and plants as part of evolution theory.
It must be admitted that their eloquence in debates and arguments had managed, based on their evidence, to convince biologists to accept their viewpoint.
The funny thing was that their so-called knowledge, theories, and imaginations were all based on the preconceived assumption that evolution theory was true.
From there, the databases were compiled and categorized according to the diverse indicators mentioned. Thus, the organism classification was created.
Human beings were grouped in the Animalia kingdom under the Chordata phylum. Its classification was mammalian, and its order was Primates. The human species was called Homo Sapiens mainly because of the genus Homo which falls under the family of Hominidae.
Some may argue that this classification was made because of the same 'similarity' between those within the same group classification, like those in Primates order. It had nothing to do with evolution.
However, the process of classification was already influenced by this preconceived theory, and humanity was finally grouped with the apes.
For Lu Yang, this was the most embarrassing part of history to be shared with friends. Whenever he faced his friends over drinks, it became a prevalent joke over the dinner table.
"Did you know there was a race that convinced themselves they originated from the apes? I could not imagine what it was like to compare yourself to an inferior degenerate beast. They have a masochist tendency or something. Hahaha."
"Who could be stupid enough to even come up with that joke? Can you imagine calling those dumb and mindless monkeys 'old gramps'...bwahaha...I felt the chills along my spine just thinking about it...bwahaha..."
"No. No. You have to forgive the man. It happened long before he was born. It was not his fault to have a pig teammate of an ancestor. Or, in his case, an ape ancestor? Kyahaha...No, seriously, how dumb was the guy to propose that?"
Hearing his friends joke around, he could only helplessly glare at them, "Oh, shut it. It's not like I was born when the guy was jumping around! Plus, let me tell you, and I only told you this. So don't go around telling other people from human lineage."
"Sure, don't worry. Our mouths are closely lipped," the others smirked.
Though Lu Yang knew their words were not reliable, especially when they were drunk, he didn't mind. This so-called secret was nothing but a rumor.
He glanced around as if to talk about the most secretive thing, making others lean over, "It was rumored that the guy was the least favored student among his master's disciples. He was rebellious and envious at that time because others were more outstanding. His was not the brightest nor the most knowledgable. So he was unconvinced, right?"
"Uh-huh."
"So one day, he miraculously thought that if he proposed a bizarre assumption, he would get attention! It would be better if the hypothesis were so ridiculous that others would want to debunk and counter his proposition. This way, he would be at the center of attention. So he proposed the hypothesis of evolution!"
