Chapter 1: The Library of Games

As morning broke, the sun's radiant beams streamed through the windows, stirring Ethan from his slumber in a state of dazed disorientation. Attempting to sit up, he felt the strain in his back from sleeping on the hard floor.

"Uh...?" Puzzled about his peculiar sleeping arrangement, he began to recollect the events of the previous day, astonishingly retaining every intricate detail.

This left him with a rather peculiar sensation.

Nevertheless, he dismissed these thoughts and decided to survey the room to acclimate himself.

***

After hours spent exploring the apartment and perusing snippets of this world's history on an antiquated computer, he concluded that he remained on Earth, albeit in a parallel version, circa the year 2004.

Strangely, there were notable parallels and disparities between this Earth and the one he hailed from. While video games, movies, and other forms of entertainment still existed, they had stagnated in their development, rendering them dull and unengaging compared to his original Earth.

For instance, the video game industry in this world churned out lackluster and monotonous games, devoid of intricate design and compelling mechanics. Most titles were either simulators or inferior replicas of games from his original Earth, such as sword-fighting simulators or shooting range simulations. The only aspect that had progressed was technology.

After World War II, humanity had shifted its focus to technological advancement, causing a stagnation in the realms of novels, movies, and video games. In this world, the realm of video games never reached its full potential.

"But I can't let that happen!"

"What's life without video games?"

As a devoted gamer and aspiring game developer, Ethan couldn't allow this travesty to persist. He understood the profound impact of classic games like Zelda, Minecraft, Skyrim, and more on people's hearts. If true gamers from his original Earth were to arrive here, they'd likely succumb to their gaming addiction, or worse, cease to exist.

"Needless to say, I'll need to plan ahead if I wish to recreate the glory of video games."

But before embarking on this mission, he needed to do what he should have done from the start, much like every experienced fanfic reader: check if he possessed a cheat, akin to other transmigrators.

This was the key to his success and survival, the "golden finger," as those Chinese novels called it. He rose, feeling a twinge in his back from the uncomfortable floor. In a daze, he looked upward and uttered the magical words.

"System."

He waited for several seconds, but nothing happened.

"Status."

Again, nothing.

"Attributes," "interface."

"Am I doing something wrong?" he wondered, a hint of annoyance creeping in.

He then recollected the events of the previous day, attempting to pinpoint the nature of his cheat, assuming he had one. As he mentally retraced the information that had flooded his mind, something finally clicked.

Rather than recalling what he had missed, he experienced an odd sensation. His eyes fluttered closed, providing a strangely soothing feeling.

When he reopened his eyes, he found himself not in the same spacious apartment as before, but in the most colossal library he could ever conceive. It stretched endlessly, constantly shifting and reshaping itself, akin to a certain rift in space from a particular game.

"What in oblivion is this?" He chuckled, unable to resist the reference.

Suddenly, a thick, purple book soared toward him.

[The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion]

Staring at the book with a mix of shock and excitement, he noticed a small label beneath the bookmark on the first page.

[Category: Game Design]

A smile graced his lips.

He felt as though he had unlocked the secret of this place.

This was his cheat, his golden finger.

He decided to name it... The Library of Games, for he was but a humble advocate for those in need of games, and with this knowledge, he would recreate these masterpieces!

Thank you for reading this far; your support and feedback are appreciated. I will strive to review my own chapters and make corrections when needed. The next chapter will be released when enough people have voted for the next game (refer to the previous chapter for details).

PS: Skyrim won't be the first game; there's a vote for that. I'll likely be increasing chapter length to 1,000 or more, depending on how well this fanfic does. Thanks!

Power stones/voting = more views = more motivation = more chapters! 😎
