CHAPTER 49: FIRE

Vagan stood resolute, pointing directly at Blue, Pluto, and Rim. Her voice echoed through the street as she shouted, "FIRE!"

The humanfused soldiers responded immediately, their guns roaring to life. Blue reacted quickly, running backward and diving behind a nearby building for cover. Pluto grabbed Rim and hurried into the old house, slamming the door shut behind them.

Vagan barked orders to her squad, "I need all of you to go after the one hiding behind the building. I'll go and get Pluto." The humanfused soldiers ceased firing and began to advance towards Blue's position. Meanwhile, Vagan turned her attention to the house.

As she reached for the doorknob, a sudden blue beam shot through the door. Vagan's reflexes saved her as she bent her upper body backward, narrowly avoiding the blast. The beam annihilated everything in its path, destroying the building behind her. As the beam subsided, Vagan straightened up and glared at the door.

"You are going to Feder, Pluto," she declared, her left hand transforming into a red plasma blade, capable of cutting through nearly any material with ease. The two stood in a tense standoff, each waiting for the other to make the first move.

Meanwhile, Blue crouched behind the building, catching his breath. The humanfused soldiers were closing in on him. "Fuck," he muttered, knowing he was running out of options. He stepped out from his cover and fired a massive beam at the approaching soldiers. In response, the humanfused quickly deployed a strange device that transformed into a shield, absorbing the blast.

"Shit," Blue cursed as the humanfused soldiers resumed firing their bullets at him. He ducked back behind the building, bullets whizzing past him. He could hear the relentless firing, the sound echoing through the empty streets, and he knew he couldn't stay hidden forever. The situation was growing increasingly dire, and he needed to come up with a plan, fast.
