Chapter Eight - The Sisters

The glare from the sun was bright as her eyes opened slowly...vision was blurred

She was laying on the ground...she saw the legs of people running

Why?

Her ears began to ring as she slowly used her hands to support herself...trying to sit up

A bunch of people gathered around something not too far away from were she was...no...not something...someone

She became more and more aware of her environment and what had happened

All of a sudden she couldn't breathe...she was choking...her neck...it was tight

She felt it become tighter and tighter with each passing millisecond, she was on the ground again with her back towards the floor. She struggled to stand up but couldn't, she felt someone on top of her...her weight made standing difficult

The look in her eyes was terrifying, but she noticed something that she almost rarely saw...tears...she saw tears as she finally locked eyes with who was strangling her...Janna. Suddenly, someone pushed her off Kirra and she was finally able to catch her breath...she looked to where Janna was and saw Tye towering over her

Her facial expression was terrifying, her blaster in one hand pointed towards Janna...in her other hand was a transparent looking shield over her face

She fired a couple of shot at her, however, as now expected Janna swerved out of the path of the laser...coming closer with each move until she was right in front of her

Before she could pull the trigger again, it was knocked out of her hand...as an alternative she slammed into Janna with her shield and delivering a kick to her knee, which managed to send her down on the ground. A barrage of well-placed punches rained down on her face...her knuckles bleeding after her last punch...she was breathing heavily

Meanwhile, her victim was still on her knees, her face pointed towards the sky...soaked in blood and motionless

-Are you done?

She let out a broken laugh and looked at Tye who was still standing above her...blue energy filled her eyes...instincts kicked in, she held the shield to her face for protection. It was powerful, knocked her back even but she was still one her feet

Before she was even able to plan her next move, Janna had covered the distance between them...the ground she stood on crushed because of the amount of force she used to propel herself forward...she grabbed Tye by the face and slammed her heavily to the ground...the pain flowed through her entire body, and she was unable to breathe for a second

She had also let go of the shield she was previously holding...Janna blootered her stomach which sent her into the air away from her, crashing heavily on the ground afterward. She struggled to stand up and blood dripped from her mouth...meanwhile Janna walked towards her with rage, before she was tackled to the ground by Yina...she was on top of her

-WHY...WHY???

She screamed at her mother in anger...her voice was also heavy like she was about to begin crying...but instead of getting a reply, she was tossed to the side

During all these Kirra was flooded with different ideas and emotions, unable to figure out what to do...then she ran over to help her sister back on her feet...some more guards wearing heavy body armors came bursting through the doors and quickly went in to restrain Janna by her hands...she struggled, however, trying to free herself from their grip

She then glanced over to where some people were still gathered...the ground was covered in blood and her father laid there still...he was dead. Kirra who already had tears in her eyes began crying, she looked over at Yina who looked very angry...she looked strong but inside she was heartbroken

-Are you okay?

She said to Kirra while giving her a hug

-I...I don't know

Meanwhile, Janna's eyes and hands began glowing blue as energy was being built up...and suddenly she released a powerful shock of energy all around her which sent everyone flying in different directions

Kirra and Yina were thrown against the wall...and were in pain from the force of impact, and Janna walked over to were the sisters laid...picking up Kirra with her hands and throwing her to the other side of the balcony

-You made me kill him

As she spoke she walked closer to Kirra, who was still on the ground struggling to move

-I have had it with you...I have tolerated you long enough...and I should have gotten rid of you from the very beginning

But then, something caught her attention...a sound...the sound of a vehicle, she looked into the sky to see an aircraft. It had three people inside, one flying it while the other two operated some kind of weapon...pointing it at her, hands-on trigger

Her eyes widened and began charging up with energy...but before she knew, the shot was fired...it was quick and bright...bright enough to stun. It looked like a bolt of lightning struck her, maybe it was...she became numb and fell to the ground heavily, her body twitching and in pain, unable to move

Looking at the sky above her, she slowly closed her eyes as she lost consciousness

As all this was unfolding, the crowd of people had mostly dispersed...most had run away when the fighting started

The guards came to properly restrain Janna and taking her away...what a day

The sisters then rushed over to Tye, who was now sitting down and being attended by a presumable medic personnel

-Are you both, ok?

-Bruised but still alive

Yina said trying to sound optimistic but the weight behind her voice gave away her feeling of sadness

-

It was silent

It was a large hall

Lots of seats to accommodate many, all were empty

The seats were arranged in a circular manner

In the center was a centerpiece...having beautiful carvings on it

Seven people stood facing the centerpiece, in front of them was an urn. Kirra and Yina, while the rest seem old...really old, they were also all women. The sisters stepped forward...and picked up the urn

One of the old women walked forward and spoke

-It is time to say goodbye to King Lace, may his memory be in our hearts

In unity, they all repeated

-May his memory be in our hearts

And with that the two sisters opened the urn and took a handful of his ashes each...they hesitated and look at each other, eyes heavy...and they scattered his ashes on the centerpiece

After a few moments, they both dropped the urn back to where it was...and turned to the old women

-Kirra, your training will still begin...regardless of all that has happened...you will become the queen of Velia

Kirra looked at her sister, who gave her a supportive look

-I would do everything I can...I swear

Some months passed

The months had passed by pretty quickly

The training was going well for Kirra...she was learning the ways of leadership...how to be a queen

One night...Yina was on a bed in her chambers...the bed was large and she laid in the center staring at the decorated ceilings, she seemed to be deep in thought

The room was lit up by the moonlight coming in from a large window at one side of the room, it was bright enough to see all that was in the room

After much silence, she got out of bed and left her chamber...walking down the hallways and climbed up a bunch of stairs, later finding herself at the end of a hallway...a large door was there and she knocked on it. She waited for a reply but nothing...she knocked again

-Who is it?

Said a voice behind the door...without replying Yina opened the doors and entered the room. The room had its light turned on, it a large bed and a bunch of machines...by the large glass door stood Kirra, it led to the balcony

-It is only you who enters my room like that

She smiled, feeling proud of herself, and walking over to where Kirra stood

-So can't sleep?

-Yes...just feeling hype tonight

-That's great, I also can't sleep, had something on my mind...and I think it is time we talk about it

She looked at Yina concerned

-What is it?

-Come on

She pulls Kirra through the glass door and onto the balcony...outside the night sky was lit up Velia's two moons, Thali and Derma. One gave out a red coloration while the other was off-white...making the sky look a little red.

-If it is about me and training, I am doing perfectly fine

-Oh really?

She said with a smirk on her face then laughed...her sister also joined her. It was quiet after and the wind blew stronger causing both their hairs to fly around

-I am going to leave

Kirra looked over at her sister in shock who was just staring into the distance...she had a smile on her face

-You are joking, aren't you?

-I wish I was

Both were quiet again and she too began staring into the distance, unsure of what to do...of what to say, after much thinking she said

-Why?

She hesitated a bit before answering...then looked over at Kirra and took her hand

-You going to become queen and I am meant to be the one who stays by your side...to protect and to guide you, but...is that it...is that all I am meant to do...is that my purpose

As she spoke Kirra, paid close attention to everything she said...but also began feeling a little guilt

-I am not saying that my purpose is to become queen...but I also don't think it is to just remain on this planet...no...instead, I want to explore...go to distant stars, planets, worlds like I would love to visit the other four Verses...do you understand now why I said I want to leave

She looked over at her sister, only to see that she had tears rolling from her eyes

-Why are you crying?

-I am just happy for you cause you finally acting responsibly

They both laughed aloud

-Well I am still very irresponsible and you are too

-And how can you prove I am irresponsible just like you

With that, Yina grinned widely and began giggling...her sister knew she had thought of something

-What is it?

-How about we go to the kitchen and help ourselves with some of Tye's secret stash of food

-You can't be serious...you found it

She had a confident and proud look on her face

-Of course, I have...weeks of stalking finally paid off

They both burst into laughter again to the point tears came out of both their eyes...they wiped it off

With both of them looking into each other's eyes mischievously, they left Kirra's room and headed for the kitchen...sneaking past the guards on patrol
