The Masks we use

Alexander wiped the sweat from his forehead with a handkerchief he had taken out of his suit pocket as he hurried out of the office to get to the parking lot.

Looking at his watch he saw that it was almost 6:30 p.m. It was time for him to pick up his son from school.

He was going to be late if he didn't hurry.

He definitely had to leave right away.

he had really done the right thing in striving to get the editing of the new project done faster.

As he watched his car in the distance he couldn't help but think about what he would do.

Today was an important day since they could finally start playing Breath of the Wild, he and his son were total fans of The Legend of Zelda games.... Even if neither could fully remember the plots.

Meh, minor and irrelevant details.

After countless scoldings from his wife for spoiling his son too much he had finally opted to buy the game in secret and save it to enjoy it the first chance they got.

A pretty solid strategy in his words.

And today the day had finally come!

.

Since the lady was away from home, today the men were going to enjoy themselves!

What could be better than father and son time with treats and video games!

With a smile of anticipation on his face Alexander proceeded to open his car door.

Starting the car, he began to drive it out of the parking lot, taking advantage of the fact that he had been the first one to leave work.

Believe it, today was very very lucky.

The memory of what used to happen was still very fresh in his memory, most of the time he ended up finishing work a little later than the others and in the end he ended up stuck in that hell known as a traffic jam.

A shiver ran through his body as he recalled that terrifying and traumatic experience full of honking, fighting and insults but he quickly kept the memory on the back burner, this was no time to dwell on it.

Yep, definitely lucky.

.....

Stepping out into the street I waited patiently for the traffic light to turn green to continue.

Curiously there didn't seem to be many people on the streets, something quite strange considering how crowded these used to be in the evening hours.

Looking up at the sky Alexander could see it beginning to cloud over.

- 'Even you're not in the mood this day?' he thought idly as he began to hum the melody of Deep Purple's Highway Star.

What? Whatever they say, it's a very catchy song, good beat, epic solo, he really didn't need anything especially if he was driving.

Seeing that the traffic light was already green Alexander stopped humming and started driving, not before turning up the volume a bit of course.

Unfortunately...

That was his last action before the unfortunate accident that led him to start his adventure.

*HONK

Without waiting for a black van that was going at high speed appeared on the street. Its driver was a young man who appeared to be between 16-17 years old and from the large amount of empty bottles strewn around him it was more than obvious that he was driving in an alcoholic state.

Interestingly, it could be seen that he was surrounded by fog, as was Alexander's own car.

The cars soon collided, crashing into each other in a scene that looked like something out of a Fast and Furious movie.

In the midst of the jolt the man ended up fainting from a blunt force trauma to his head, certainly the airbag didn't help much with that either.

The few people who had been present at the scene called the emergency services and the police almost immediately.

The police immediately contacted paramedics to take care of the situation.

Since this was no longer something they could take care of and it was pretty certain they didn't want to either.

They couldn't help but find it annoying that because of that boy who had dared to drive in that state they would now have to make the already tedious and suffocating paperwork more extensive.

A real disgrace for everyone no doubt.

........

After a few minutes, both police and medics approached the vehicles to remove the injured or dead bodies but to their surprise no one was there, it was completely empty.

If it wasn't for a few blood stains scattered around, the cops wouldn't even believe there was an accident in the first place.

After a thorough search without much success, the police prepared to notify the families of the two men of their possible disappearance or death.

No one knew what had happened to the man and the boy, but one thing was certain....

Something strange had definitely happened here under their noses, and the feeling was not a pleasant one for them.

Little did they know that Alexander and the boy had had the misfortune of catching the eye of ''A certain individual'' with chronic boredom and a lot of time on his hands.

A very clear example of the words ''Right place, wrong time''.

In the end, the father and son night that Alexander had been looking forward to for so long.

It was never going to happen.

***************************

Who knows how long after, Alexander opened his eyes once again.

Astonishment and trepidation were his first reactions to what he saw.

His field of vision was greeted by a thick fog and a huge, silent forest dimly lit.

There didn't seem to be any living thing in sight, either human or animal

- 'Yep, not scary at all' - He thought sarcastically as he put a hand to his forehead. He could feel a slight pain in his head and his body somewhat heavy, just as if he had been sleeping for a long time and then woke up out of nowhere

*Hyyyaaahhh

His body reacted better than he had expected when he unexpectedly heard the neighing of a horse not far from where he was.

A new expectation formed in the man.

- 'People!' - Whether it was his sudden awakening or his desire to want to see someone besides himself, Alexander ran through the trees to get to where he thought the noise had come from.

Anything was better than being left alone in this creepy place!.

.......

The sight before his eyes left him completely dumbfounded.

It was something so strange and yet so familiar, he felt he had seen it somewhere but he really wasn't sure where.

- Hey you, give back the ocarina that you hide behind your back! - said one of the people. He was wearing green clothes and a green hat, and on his back he carried a shield and a sword. His ears were elongated like those of an elf or some similar creature out of fantasy, his face was quite cute.

He had bright blue eyes and golden hair with a hairstyle that gave him a certain air of genius.

...And if he was honest, Alexander seriously doubted whether it was a boy or a girl, his high-pitched voice and small size certainly didn't do much to clear up the misunderstanding.

The other masked boy (?) had his hands behind his back unwilling to give in to the one dressed in green.

The one in green jumped towards him trying to catch him but the masked one was much faster and in one leap landed on the horse.

There were two small lights flying next to him.

- Stop! -

Soon he saw the one dressed in green chasing the masked man as he fled on the horse and was lost in the distance.

What the hell was going on here? He asked himself before starting to follow them as fast as his lethargic body would allow.

Yeah, like he was going to stick around and wait for more people to show up.

No way.

Synopsis

After leaving his office, Alexander was ready to pick up his son from school when a drunken idiot made him one of the victims of a vicious car accident.

Okay, so far so normal (not counting the scary fog).

It wasn't so unusual for accidents to happen because of irresponsible people.

But things were far from over there... what else had happened?

Ah yes, when Alexander woke up he found himself looking like a Hylian in one of his son's favorite video games, The Legend of Zelda.

And how did he know that? A wild Skull Kid told him.
