"Ah, seems like I played too hard," Abel said embarrassingly, as he crushed the last person's head underfoot, amidst the sea of corpses and the fearful expressions of the bystanders, all stepping back in unison. Red and white were splattered everywhere. Behind him, Baby-5 struck a resigned pose, hands on hips, "As expected, I knew it would happen."
The pirates had come at just the right time; after their whole crew had been sacrificed, it wouldn't be long before almost the entire island knew the weapons shop owner was not somebody to mess with. After tidying up the entrance once more, no one dared to cause any more trouble.
However, before long, Kid and Killer noticed Uncle Sam looking somewhat anxious as he approached them, "Have you two seen Druyanika?"
"What happened to Druyanika?" they asked hurriedly.
Druyanika was their former crush. Even though she was now unwilling to see them, that didn't mean they would ignore any trouble that might have befallen her. As Uncle Sam narrated the story, their hearts sank further.
It turned out that Druyanika had been part of the crowd that had come to watch the spectacle, but for some reason, she suddenly decided she wanted to go back on her own. Uncle Sam had intended to have someone accompany her back, but Druyanika refused, saying she wanted to walk alone. Coincidentally, everyone's attention had been drawn to the commotion in the shop at that time. When they turned back, she was gone. Initially, everyone thought she just went back ahead of them. But when they finished watching and returned to East Street, they realized that Druyanika hadn't returned, and that's when everyone started looking for her.
"Wait for me, I'll ask the boss for time off and then help you look," Kid said.
"Maybe the girl just went somewhere to clear her head," he reassured Uncle Sam, which was also a reassurance to himself, and then he rushed into the shop.
If it were just a false alarm, all would be well. But where were they? This place was a chaotic lawless land occupied by pirates! Everyone knew what could happen if a cute, pretty girl caught the wrong person's attention, and that's why they were so concerned.
"Go ahead, and if you come across any trouble you can't handle, come back to me," Abel said after approving Kid's request for time off. Then he took out two beautifully crafted pistols and ammunition from the shop and placed them in front of Kid.
Kid was silent for a moment, then picked up the items and ran outside. Abel, with his keen hearing, barely caught the mumbled thanks.
"What's this?" Killer asked.
"The boss gave them to us, one each. Take it, and hope we won't need to use them," Kid explained as Killer nodded, accepting the pistol without further words. Uncle Sam felt somewhat relieved to see this.
So they immediately began searching for Druyanika, covering all the places she often visited. However, as it often happens, the thing they feared the most seemed to be coming true; there was no trace of Druyanika in any of these places. The possibility of something bad having happened was growing by the minute.
It wasn't until they questioned a hoodlum from another block that they got some useful information. "That girl you're talking about, I think I saw her."
"Spit it out, where did she go?" they demanded.
"Heh, where she went, what's it to me?" the hoodlum smirked.
"Damn you, you looking to die?" Killer snapped.
"If you've got the guts, go ahead and shoot, then collect that girl's corpse yourself," the hoodlum taunted, unfazed by the gun pointed at him, sensing they were novices with firearms.
"As long as he wants to get information from him, the other party definitely won't dare to shoot. He's sure of it with this kid!"
"Name your price," Kid said, coldly eyeing the man.
"I like the gun in your hands; it's new, isn't it?"
What's more important, a gun or saving someone?
Kid placed the gun on the ground and demanded, "Speak!"
The thug looked down and thought to himself that the kid was somewhat clever for not handing the gun over directly; otherwise, things would have been much simpler.
Hiding his disappointment, the thug spoke up, "I did see a woman nearby getting snatched by some people. Among them, I recognized one as a member of the Hyena Pirates. As for whether that woman is whom you describe as Druyanika, I'm not sure."
"Where are the Hyena Pirates?"
"You'll have to ask someone else; I don't know."
Having shared what he knew, the thug warily eyed Kid and then bent down to pick up the handgun.
"Damn, no ammunition. Pretty cautious, huh?"
"Kid, a piece of advice. Don't mess with those guys; they're the most vicious on the island right now."
"And at this time, that woman has probably already..."
The thug shrugged his shoulders with a wry smile and then walked off with the gun.
Kid's expression turned cold, and he later found Killer and told everyone the news.
On hearing that the Hyena Pirates had abducted Druyanika, many immediately thought of backing out.
Helping to find someone was one thing, but risking their lives against the brutal Hyena Pirates for Druyanika?
Sorry, they weren't that close.
While sticking together for warmth was true, it didn't mean everyone would selflessly sacrifice everything for someone else—it simply wasn't possible.
Even Uncle Sam showed a hesitant expression.
Kid saw right away he couldn't rely on them; he and Killer would have to handle it themselves.
Taking a deep breath, he said, "The rest of you don't need to be involved; leave this to us."
Hearing this, the others started to dissuade them amidst feelings of shame.
After all, just the two of them would be walking into certain death.
But Kid and Killer weren't listening.
On their way to find the Hyena Pirates, Killer asked, "Should we inform the boss?"
In Killer's view, if the boss would intervene, the odds of rescuing Druyanika would be much greater.
Kid, recalling what Abel had told him earlier, hesitated but then shook his head, "Let's see how things go; if it's impossible, then we'll talk."
He didn't want to owe anyone any more favors and wasn't the type to rely on others for everything.
Impossible?
Can't do it?
How would they know without trying?!
The location of the Hyena Pirates was no secret, and Kid and Killer managed to find it out easily.
Then Killer handed his gun to Kid, indicating he wasn't comfortable using it.
Kid, having a keen interest in machinery, took it without reluctance, knowing the firearm would be more useful in his hands.
Soon, the two of them stealthily approached the Hyena Pirates' stronghold.
The sentries outside seemed to have drunk plenty, all of them in a drunken stupor.
This undoubtedly provided an advantage for Kid and Killer's infiltration.
