Her heart shattered to pieces. She so wanted to spend the night with him. Even if he won't do anything to her, she just wanted to sleep on his chest.
The maid prepared her for her bath. She felt her body slowly regaining its lost energy. After a hot bath, she got dressed and went to bed. The maid left shortly after that with the tray of food.
She tried forcing herself to sleep, but her heart kept accelerating speedily in her chest. Her mind wavered about Francis. She didn't want him to go away like that. She was scared that he might leave again when she wakes up.
It was midnight and she still could not sleep. She can't handle her uneasiness anymore so she got out of the bed. She had fully recovered from the state she was earlier. Her legs strolled out of her room and went to the direction of his room, but retracted on her way there.
"What's he doing sitting all alone in the middle of the night?" She asked herself.
Francis was downstairs sitting down with his legs crossed and sipping a wine. He wasn't watching anything but kept staring at the blank space and sipping his wine.
She walked downstairs. It seemed like he didn't notice her presence, so she took slow steps and appeared before him. The man didn't look shock seeing her. Rather, he traced his gaze up to her face.
"Why are you still awake?" He asked keeping his normal stern face.
"What are you doing here sitting down all alone?"
He wried. "Planning my next move of course."
Her eyes opened slightly and her brows creased. "What..."
"I see you're better now." He said cutting her off.
"Yes." She said nodding her head. "But can you explain why you're sitting down here all alone in the middle of the night."
He took a sip and spoke. "Jane. The best time for a man to think, is in a really quiet place."
"But what...."
"You should go to sleep now. It's late."
Jane raised a brow at him and sighed. "You know my grandma used to tell me that a problem shared is a problem solved. Why not tell me what's eating you up. Maybe I can help you." She said in a gentle voice.
He looked at her and chuckled inwardly. "Jane I think you have a long way to go in life." He paused and continued looking at the confused girl. "You're still too young to understand that not all problems shared have a solution. Sometimes, it worsen the situation when the problem is shared."
Jane took few seconds to digest what he just said. She knew there was a hint of truth in his words.
"You will never know how your problem will be solved if don't give it a try by sharing it. You don't know who might help you out you know." She said.
He kept quiet looking at her with his stern face. He hate to admit it, but she was somehow right. "Jane, you should go rest. You need more of it."
"I've rested enough already. I just want us to talk."
He gulped down the entire drink and stood up. "It's late. You've been sick and you need proper rest."
"No. I'm not going anywhere. I want us to talk."
"Talk about what?" He asked keeping an unfathomable gaze.
"About everything." She paused and walked closer to him till their bodies nearly touched. She gently took his hand and squeezed it so lightly and stared into his eyes. "I missed you." She said those words from the bottom of her heart.
When he left, she realized that she doesn't just have feelings for him, but he also meant a lot to her. Even with his cold attitude, she loved him and want to see him everyday. He was her own happiness. She hated seeing him in the mood he was few days ago. Even if he doesn't love her in return, she was lucky to feel this thing called love. She was glad in her heart. At least, one thing from all her wishes has been fulfilled, and she won't ever regret it till she finally lay down her head to sleep forever.
He stood there frozen and finally shrugged like he heard something funny. He took his hand back to his pocket and looked at her with an intense gaze.
"I didn't miss you." He said cold and straightforward.
She felt a little sharp pain sting her heart, but she was okay with it. She chose this path after all.
"Even if you don't, I'll always miss you." She said emotionally.
Everywhere went ultra quiet that even a drop of pin could be heard if it touches the ground. They stood there staring at each others eyes. A little something flickered in his eyes, but it instantly changed back.
"Jane, I think you've been seeing a lot romantic movies lately and it's messing with your mental health right now."
"It's....."
"Go to bed." He said cutting her off with his cold voice. "We'll be leaving very early."
