No one can really help those being burned alive by the enchanted flames, as the flames will never die, not until those being burned within are completely reduced to ash.
That young woman is lucky enough to only have her clothes torched. She has also acted quickly enough to remove them before the flames spread to her body. In such an event, it will not be pretty.
Sure, there are ways to extinguish the magical infernos, and I have prepared a method for that just in case I had set myself or someone important to me on fire… accidentally. However, to use that method, I have to be close enough to the flames.
And that is not happening right now. Simply because I like my current vantage point very much. Also, I do not have a hero complex, risking my life for strangers. Even those that I do know, I will still weight the pros and cons.
Considering the amounts of monsters and people that I have just sent to the afterlife with my bombs, I should have been acknowledged by the System, but since it remains silence even now, I think it might never response to me due to me being part of another System.
And I do not mind. It is better that way, actually.
"Hey! Stop that!" one of the men calls out from below, as I am about to toss another incendiary bomb for good measure. "There are people in there! Can't you hear them screaming!?"
I eye him before tossing the bomb at the monsters, fueling the inferno and burning everything within to cinder. Since I do not know these people, there is no reason for me to listen to them. And even if I do know them, I will still do what I had just did because it is called mercy.
"You bastard! Bastard! Some of our friends were in there!" the same man calls out, and I eye him once more before paying attention to the others. A couple have the same opinion as him from their faces, and that means nothing to me.
"If I were you, I should be more worried about that," I response and point at the silhouette within the inferno. It is the only thing within the flames that is still standing, and I was afraid of that.
Three is always a risk of using blood magic to kill, especially against a huge number of enemies. This is because their deaths are considered sacrifices, and enough sacrifices, something bounds to happen.
It is especially true when there are a lot of Life Crystals lying around. Every monster dies in the inferno leaves behind a Life Crystal due to their natural affinity. If those Crystal remains in the fire for a while, it will be turn into Fire Crystals, thus allowing me to harvest fire essence.
However, not all of those Life Crystals are turned into Fire Crystals. Some of them do get destroyed in the conversion process, releasing a lot of Life Essence. Mixing with grudges and hatreds from the dead and dying, something will be created.
When the burning monstrosity emerges from the inferno, the five people on the ground are frozen in fear. They might have seen their friends and colleagues get murdered and eaten by monsters, but they have never seen a burning skeleton reaching out towards them before.
I was the same as them when I first come to face to face with a Skeletal Flame Mage. It is considered an undead, and a quite powerful undead at that. Of course, this time is a bit different.
And a bullet rips through its skull, striking the Death Crystal within.
I hope that you enjoy the chapter.
