Jessie entered the bakery on the scent of vanilla and sugar and utter silence. No one occupied the kitchen, and when she entered the dining area, the place was also deserted except for the one table where Jakara and Betty drank coffee.
"Good morning."
"Jessie, you're back. We didn't expect you until next week." Jakara greeted Jessie with a hug.
"We came back early."
"Uh oh. Problems on the newlywed front?"
"Mon Jun out of sexy juice?" Betty cackled at her own joke.
"Betty, you're bad. No, everything is terrific. We decided to break the honeymoon into two parts. Min Jun is booking arrangements for a trip to Paris in a couple of months."
"As in Paris, France? They've got some fine bakeries in Paris. You'll come back fat and full of new ideas," Jakara said.
"And pregnant," Betty added. "Mark my words. I'm never wrong."
