Chapter 19
“Dad, don’t do that. That’s not James.”
“Who’s James?” Zeke blurted before he could censor himself.
The man turned toward him in surprise. “I apologize on my father’s behalf. He’s very ill. He has cancer, and doesn’t have much time left. He can get rather delusional at times and clear-headed on the rare occasions. Anyway, before my father married my mother, he had another son, James, from his previous wife. She died a few months after James passed away from a heart attack. My father used to be a senator.”
Zeke’s lips ran dry. His heart pounded hard and fast. “Was his name James Wong?”
The young man looked even more taken aback. “Yeah. I guess you’ve heard something about it.”
Zeke stared at James’s younger stepbrother and offered his hand. “I’m Zeke Wu.”
The guy shook hands with him. “Oliver Wong. Once again, I apologize on my father’s behalf.”
“It’s all right. I was just astonished. I’m a freelance photographer,” Zeke explained while indicating his camera.
