<p>I woke to the hum of my truck&rsquo;s engine. Rikki hummed something, just quiet enough not to wake me. It was something Reign used to do when she was nervous, but Rikki was never nervous.</p>

<p>&ldquo;Good morning, sunshine. Well, good evening anyway. You slept a bit. It wouldn&rsquo;t surprise me if you have a head&hellip;&rdquo; She started cheerfully, but I held my hand up, stopping her mid-sentence.</p>

<p>I didn&rsquo;t want to hear it. I wanted her to turn the car around and realize we had just fed Reign to a monster.</p>

<p>&ldquo;Rude,&rdquo; Rikki retorted when I didn&rsquo;t say anything after interrupting her.</p>

<p>I rolled my eyes. Glancing around the cab, I looked for my laptop bag. It was behind the driver seat at the bottom of a pile I had no hope of reaching while we drove.</p>
