5. Correction

My head throbbed as I woke. I reached up to touch my forehead and felt something wet. I wiped the blood off my fingers and looked around. I was already here, at this terrible place. This cold dark room. Colder and darker than my cell. And way more terrifying.

A loud thud echoed throughout the room and I looked up to see Professor Kovid. He looked down at me expressionlessly, while tension filled the room.

"You brought this on yourself," he said and scowled at me.

I boiled with anger, "I never laid a hand on her!"

I received a kick to the mouth. I clutched my snout and I felt the blood rise from my gums.

"Any sign of aggression is punishable," he crouched down, "by the looks of you, you've been here before, haven't you?"

I watched him steadily, so I wouldn't quiver in fear.

"Let me put it simply. The strong will live and the weak will die. You have lived because you are strong and the strong become strong by being punished," he stood up and looked down at me, his expression became sinister.

"This is your punishment."

"I'm not stupid," I spat, "are you telling me that these punishments are reasonable?

I laughed darkly.

"Do you wonder why I put you through all this number 23? You are the strongest here,"

The strongest? When did I become more dangerous then Harlo? I thought we were evenly matched.

"You are one of the first."

"Why does that matter?"

He ignored my question, "all other experiments died before 21, 22 and you,"

This piqued my interest.

"and recently, we've been only able to make low tier experiments, so I am counting on you. You will be my perfect killing machine!"

He strode out of the glass cage I was in.

Us three experiments are all middle and high danger level animals... How were we created after all those failed experiments? What changed after we were created? My thoughts were evidently cut short when the door snapped shut. I scrambled onto my feet and looked around as two scientists stepped forward.

"What is it now, huh?" I said to stage my courage, "Whipping?"

I shook with fear as two long metallic arms ripped off my shirt and proceeded the grab my wrists. I was lifted off the ground and met eyes with professor Kovid.

"Electrical currents."

I watched as Froddy was dragged away by the guards. My father was always overprotective of me. I'm 23! I can look after myself dad. Maybe Froddy would actually trust me if I wasn't associated with my father. I have to prevent my father from hurting him!

I flushed the toilet and hurried out of the bathroom to see some of the experiments still seated at their tables. I looked over and saw Froddy's small white friend. The animal was ushered back over to their seat with a worried look on their face.

When they were seated, I made my way over to them. They became visibly nervous when I got closer, but I lowered down to their size. I gave them a reassuring smile.

"I'll try to get him out of trouble, I promise you," I whispered to them.

The white creature looked up at me with both confusion and hope.

"I'm sorry if I fail you,"

I ran after the guards who were further away at this point. They closed the door on me as I came close to the correction chamber.

"Hey, Hey! Let me in!" I banged on the door repeatedly, "I need to speak to my father!"

I heard the door clicking and it slid upwards. My father stepped out of the door as it closed behind him.

"Stop banging on the door like a child," he growled, "what do you want?"

"Aren't you being a bit harsh father?"

"I don't think so, he tried to hurt you," my father stood his ground. Now, who's the one acting like a child?

"He was having a mental breakdown! Who's fault do you think that is?"

He scowled, "the experiments should be strong enough to hold themselves together for the sake of our future,"

"Don't give me 'for the sake of our future crap'! I can't seem to find a shred of decency in this facility," I paused to catch my breath, "why do we keep torturing these people?"

He slammed his fist against the wall, "they are not people, Darcy! Not anymore,"

I stepped closer to my father as he took off his glasses and massaged his temples, "please father, he did nothing wrong. You must know this."

My father looked at me in disbelief, "you must see the bigger picture. Aggression is punishable, they must learn this," he leaned in closer, "for our future."

And with that, he left. If I couldn't persuade my father, then I would have to stop the punishment myself.
