Preparations [2]

'Maybe...I should've accepted her apology back then.'

The thought crossed Dean's mind a couple times as he was alone again. But like last time, he quickly discarded that thought as it was a long time ago when their relationship was strained. Nevertheless, Dean sighed as he stopped doing his menial tasks and looked at the progress he made.

Near Dean was a neatly stacked pile of pointy sticks made of wood and there were some that were made of metal...more specifically aluminum. The materials came from various objects such as broken tables, chairs, and even wall bars. Anyway it took about almost an hour for Dean to carve out about 100 javelins using his telekinesis and his personal sword. He still wasn't able to confidently manipulate molecules to sharpen the tools so he had to make due with his sword.

Dean got up and was about to ask Kat for status update but...

Kat left several minutes ago to check up on the others and was most likely chatting with them too. Dean even permitted Kat to warn them of another possible enemy above their heads, but at the same time she was also probably reassuring them with her easygoing personality.

Well for Freddie and Mercury, she was most likely calming them down. He could already imagine those two freaking out dramatically while with Kat acting cute to lift their spirits up.

Though Dean had a feeling Bob and Mary were going to be fine and even modify the sentries to target upward. With that thought in mind, he decided to check their progress. So he got up and telekinetically carry all of the makeshift javelins with him inside the building.

'Kat can multitask pretty well'

He thought that as he look at the security cameras pointing at the exposed entrances, including the holes in the walls, into the building.

Inside the building, it was still the same mess everywhere but with lights on here and there to reveal even more of the chaos that unfolded. There was blood and guts splattered in places, Dean could have cleaned up the mess or assign someone else to clean it. Though with Ha-eun somewhere outside, he had to prioritize being prepared for their upcoming hunt over cleanliness.

Still.

'If we survive this and still need a safe haven, then this place can be ideal.'

Dean ignored that thought and came upon the elevators. The doors were sliced shut by the two men he assigned, without enough power for the elevators, they were easy access points for whatever is still alive in the upper floors. With the vents being sealed shut too, the only entrance point would be the long flight of stairs.

Satisfied with the results, Dean headed on over to the janitor's room which has be repurposed into a work area. The muffled sound of buzzing and tinkering could be heard once he neared the shut door until the door slid open allowing the sound to amplify.

Bzzzzttt

Two people who doing various tasks such as creating more gadgets or working on the turrets by placing them on hover carts, used for transporting packages or mails. Dean knew about the paper mails because he could still see the piles of them sitting in the corner where Bob and Mary dump them to fit the machine gun turrets on.

'Mobile turrets check'

Mary was testing if they can function properly with her supplying power using her electric cables. Two sky-blue bright cables were protruding out of her wrists and attaching themselves to the turrets allowing them turn freely.

"Okay I am going to test fire now Bob."

Bob stopped what he was doing and looked over at Mary. He noticed Dean was staring at the turrets too, seeing if they'll work. He nodded towards him to which Dean responded with a nod.

"Okay ready"

There was a brief moment of silence before...

BANG!

BANG!

Both turrets shot a round each into the ceiling revealing a success.

"Sigh...who knew getting these machine guns on top of the mail carts and have them work properly would be a pain in the ass."

"Seems you did-"

"AHHH WHAT THE FU-"

"-a good job then."

Mary freaked out once Dean spoke right next to her.

He tilted his head a little in puzzlement to her reaction while Bob just shook his head at the scene.

"Oh uhh Dean, when did you get here?"

"Just before you started test firing the guns."

"Oh I didn't hear you my bad hehehe. So...are you just checking up on us?"

Mary was chuckling a little to erase the embarrassment earlier while Dean was nodded to her question. It seems Mary was back to normal...at least on the outside since learning of her brother's death and their current situation.

'Then again, keeping herself busy was what's probably holding her together.'

The thought quickly went away as guessing a person's state of mind seemed rude to Dean. So he went to ask Mary about the turrets capabilities.

"Hmmm...is the targeting system fully operational?"

"Oh the AI- I mean Kat adjusted the internal systems so it'll target anything that isn't a normal human like us. She even added a manual option in case one of us wanted to man the machine guns, so I added a trigger on each of the guns thanks to Bob's stockage of junk."

"I'm right here you know."

"Oh I meant that as a complement, I even have my own stockage of junk back in my room and-just my room."

Mary smiled bitterly as she almost mentioned her brother's place where her random gadgets and spare parts were seen all over whenever she hung out over there. Dean and Bob noticed her troubled expression as they decided to cheer her up in their own way.

"Thank you for helping us, Mary"

"Ah girl did I tell ya this one story of how my daughter built a fridge when she was 9?"

"I just wanted to repay you for saving me so it's no biggie Dean. And no, but I would love to hear it...after Dean finishes what he came here to do."

Mary thank the two from the bottom of her heart, feeling relieved at strangers comforting her at her lowest point.

'Maybe I should've hung out with Jacob more and make friends instead of isolating myself to tinker something.'

The thought crossed her mind, but she shook it away as the past was the past and it was the present that matters, especially when Mary wasn't sure if she was going to survive but she'll do everything to increase her survival rate.

Meanwhile, seeing that she was feeling better, Dean looked over towards Bob and asked him how his little projects were doing. To which, Bob replied that they should be ready in another hour when the whole group would be assembling outside.

Dean nodded then left the room.

He wondered if he should check up on Freddie and Mercury, but remembered how talkative they get, so he left them to Kat and headed back outside to make more javelins while practicing his powers.

Hopefully things don't get too complicated in the next few hours.

Didn't get contracted ;-;

Oh well I'll finish this novel, but I'll start laying the groundworks for my next one.

I'll work on improving my pacing in the future too.

Let me know other issues I need fixing.

Anyway still 1 chapter a day like usual.
