One sword is nice, two is cool, three is...

House Swordheart, that Veronica Swordheart is a part of, is considered the 'blade' of the United Human Alliance as they're typically on the frontlines with purely their swords and Esper abilities striking against any foes of the UHA.

The family itself chose to be barons as they prefer less politics and more focus on the 'blade', nevertheless their influence is no lesser than the dukes and duchesses as the royal family favors them due to their honesty, valor, and loyalty.

But.

There was one quirk with the family.

The entirety of House Swordheart are sword fanatics meaning each individual member obsesses over a certain type of blade whether it's the longswords, greatswords, or katanas. As long as its a blade, each member of the family would go crazy over them by having a large collection of their favorite type of sword.

For Veronica Swordheart, her collection was personally seen by Dean and Kat, the indoor lights turned on sensing Dean's presence revealing katanas everywhere even replacing some of the furniture around Veronica's apartment.

Paintings? Pairs of katanas took over their place.

Flower vases? A katana replaced their location.

Figurines? Tantos took over.

The few wallpapers there were had iconic katana-wielding fictional characters.

Normally anyone would be a little disturbed by dozens of katanas everywhere as decorations, but for Dean it was like a surprise birthday gift since-

Bang

"OPEN THE DOOR MCLOVIN"

"YEAH WE ONLY WANT TO PLAY"

"McLovin, come out to play-i-ay~"

"If you open the door, you wouldn't be the virgin nerd anymore~"

-there were multiple banging noises coming from the front door. It started with loud shouts then softer tones with an underlying chill to their demonic voices.

Dean quickly sprung into action as the fiends started to cut the door open with a blowtorch or most likely with an ability.

He quickly unsheathe the katanas and placed them in a neat pile with his telekinesis. Even the tantos were included into the pile.

[Despite never studying, Veronica's obsession with the blade helped us in the end huh hehehe], Kat joked but her tone was still weak and her laugh felt forced, still recovering from what she witnessed earlier.

"..."

[Not funny enough?]

Dean looked at Kat who was in her full sized holographic form, her eyes were still shaking from shock and her hands were tightly grasping each other. Seeing her like that, Dean could only blurt out,

"I'm sorry you had to witness that".

Kat's eyes widen a little but she slowly formed a small smile, her body language suggested she was still in shock but Dean's worried tone glued her together long enough to focus on the fight that was about to happen soon.

[Thanks]

Her mind was more focused now and just in time to sense small vibrations above and below them.

[Dean they're in the vents above and below us, head over to that corner so that they can't ambush us], Kat said while pointing towards the far back of the living room with no vents anywhere.

Heading towards that direction, Dean lifted the pile of katanas and placed them near his new spot.

The door was almost sliced open as if treasure hunters finally struck gold hidden inside the sealed room, however, the treasure hunters were bloodthirsty insane humans and the gold was Dean himself.

Dean made some final prep work by moving the couches and chairs to form a semicircle barricade around him, the makeshift barricade reaching up to his waist.

Even though he was facing a small army of undead and insane superhumans, the barricade should theoretically slow them down a bit.

Theoretically that is.

Bam

The door was kicked open letting some of the flooded water leak through while revealing multiple glowing red eyes in the darkness.

Those eyes were filled with excitement and complete bloodlust with an everlasting hunger for chaos and violence.

They slowly entered through the narrow door.

"RAAAARRRRGHHHH"

At the same time, multiple husks burst through the ceiling and floor hoping to ambush their prey.

But Dean was too far away from the entrance or the center of the room crushing their nonexistent hope.

Swoosh

Multiple floating katanas were sent towards the monsters some impaled the fiends while others were sent horizontally cutting the husks in half below the waist.

Of course the husks were still 'alive', but only their upper half were moving.

The bright apartment light revealed the husks to be a mixture of the usual undead and victims of the violent tanning.

Headless and skinless torsos were slowly crawling towards Dean, their disgusting visage reminded Kat of what caused this and she immediately averted her eyes to the front where the fiends were still pouring through.

Of course her proximity sensor will alert Dean if the crawlers manage to break through the makeshift barricade or was near him.

Meanwhile, the first 3 or 4 fiends were instantly impaled, killing them but these ones were mostly like fodder as the following fiends were able to protect themselves.

'Tch'

Clicking his tongue, Dean sent more katanas after the fiends while he slowly cut through husks with the amount of katanas he could control at the same time.

Eventually, all of the husks were chopped in half.

Some were cut horizontally leaving the upper halves crawling.

Some were cut vertically leaving both sides crawling awkwardly.

Others were cut diagonally leaving one side crawling while the other side is still standing.

Dean took a mental note to only cut horizontally next time as he dismembered the last standing husks with his powers.

The fiends, on the other hand, were all inside the room now only missing a couple along with the previous impaled ones from the extra barrage of katanas. Leaving about 8 of them still alive.

Too many for Dean to deal with.

They weren't as skilled as Kacy but that silver lining was overshadowed by their sheer number.

"Finally get to deal with the stuck-up orphan"

"Hehehe....your ass is mine....McLovin"

"Perma 2 is about to be perma dead"

"..."

The fiends stopped taunting because of the last comment, but they didn't argue about it.

Instead they pretended it wasn't spoken at all and slowly march forward with weapons and abilities ready.

.

.

.

.

Behind them something grotesque was happening as witnessed by both Dean and Kat.

[So that's how husks are created.]

"Yeah..."
