Becoming a Storm

How are husks created?

A loose term that Dean came up with instead of zombies for the undead creatures he encountered so far.

Why?

Unlike the usual zombies that have become recently re-popularized in the mid 26th century, husks were able to continue moving without a head. Conventional weapons wouldn't work unless they target the limbs which wasn't a guaranteed way to truly kill them but it did immobilize them to the point the husks seem to 'die'.

Back to the original question, how are husks created?

For Dean and Kat, it wasn't the birds and the bees nor was it the dead simply rising again after a brief amount of time of being killed.

The two dead bodies of the fiends were shone in the bright light of Veronica's trashed apartment with hand-like creatures crawling towards them.

Tak Tak

Tak Tak

The familiar sounds they made with their clawed fingers suggested they were responsible for the creepy vent noises from the previous floor.

The hand-like monster was the size of an average adult hand with the skin grown over where the wrist would connect to the hand itself. There were four fingers with sharpened nails that drag the rest of its body as if the bottom half legs of a spider were missing causing the spider to painfully drag itself.

Dragging their grotesque bodies towards the two dead fiends, they each stop over the chest area and their 'palms' open up revealing a pointy red crystal then they stab down into the chest and crawled away....back into the dark hallway.

At first nothing happened to the corpses, but a second after, they started twitching violently and one of their arms burst like a balloon.

The burst arm had the skin and muscle completely removed for the bones to morph into a single edge pointy blade.

Bottom jawline burst away revealing fangs coming from the top row of teeth.

Then, the now husks rose up but unlike their former crazed eyes, these were unfocused and foggy, signs of being dead.

The whole process of turning took less than five seconds.

As this was happening, the rest of the eight fiends were slowly moving towards Dean with weapons and abilities ready.

Luckily none were from the top 100, but their numbers still pose a threat to him.

While Dean and Kat were witnessing the grotesque husk transformations, Dean was slowly 'connecting' with the remaining katanas around him.

He was preparing to use a technique that would drain his mental energy completely.

Dean had his sword sheathed and his arms were slowly being raised as several katanas were floating up pointing at the fiends as if they were alive and ready to take lives.

"Kat....can you help me....dodge?", Dean whispered, barely getting his words through as controlling less than a dozen swords was very taxing on his mind.

[Un, leave it to me], Kat nodded in response with a serious expression.

Seeing several floating katanas, the fiends didn't panic but they were a little more cautious until...

"Just focus on the virgin nerd and ignore his little stunt. He can't focus on two different tasks at once", one of the fiends spoken out as they remembered seeing Dean used this move a couple of times in the past.

Then the chaos began.

The fiends charged forward and threw their throwable weapons or range abilities.

Dean sent the blades forward surrounding the fiends and cutting them up but they were shallow wounds as they dodge the attacks.

Kat was ordering Dean where to dodge.

[LEFT]

Dean moved left avoiding a javelin with lightning coursing through.

[DOWN]

He ducked down avoiding exploding sparkles.

[JUMP]

Strangely he jumped too trusting Kat's judgement and he was right in trusting her as a rope moving like a snake attempted to tie his feet immobilizing him.

If it was any other situation, it would've looked like Kat was backseating while Dean was playing a video game.

But.

Each order saved Dean from suffering an injury or even worse....death.

Nevertheless.

Some of the range attacks manage to hit Dean as the dodge time was shrinking causing a few crystal needles to penetrate Dean's left shoulder just above his heart. Luckily his suit jacket and high endurance protected him enough for the needles to just break his skin and stick less than a centimeter into his flesh.

The fiends broke down the makeshift barricade letting the crawling husks through.

Seeing them getting close, Dean exerted more power into the katanas making them faster.

His nose started bleeding and a headache was growing due to the cost of overexerting himself but they paled to dying.

The katanas finally found their victims as one impaled a fiend sideways hitting their lungs and heart at the same time. Another decapitate a fiend from behind as that one successfully tied their rope around Dean's legs.

Dean was immobilized leaving him opened for the attackers but that was okay since the flying katanas were doing their work.

Each moved rapidly finding their mark.

Fiends were impaled or cut apart.

Husks were dismembered completely.

The flying katanas were moving rapidly.

As if they became a part of a storm.

After a few long minutes of chaos that ensued, the ruined apartment of Veronica Swordheart became quiet...very quiet.

The only source of sound was Dean's heavy breathing.

"Haaa...haaaaa...."

He looked around to see corpses everywhere with their limbs separated and heads severed.

Satisfied that everyone was dead and prevented from turning into a conventional husk, Dean started to tiredly walk towards the front door.

[Where are you going, you need to rest a bit], Kat inquired as she shrunk down and sit on Dean's shoulders.

"The girl....haaaa....from.....haaa....earlier"

[She might've turned into a husk though]

Dean shook his head and pointed towards the mess behind him.

Kat looked behind but didn't recognize any of the heads to be of the broken girl.

Even though they briefly saw her in the darkness, her features were easily recognizable for both of them to notice in the pile of corpses.

Kat then looked around the apartment seeing the mess that they made...well what the fiends and husks made.

Feeling a little better she joked, [Hopefully Veronica doesn't come back to see the mess and the state of her precious swords hehehe].

Hearing her genuine giggle and lighthearted joke, Dean's fatigue lifted a little as his lips slowly curled upward forming a small smile.

"Agreed"

Then they proceeded back into the darkness silently hoping the one survivor they encountered is still alive....physically.
