Melissa's eyes lowered, rubbing her hands together again, as if trying to calm herself. "The crash... It wasn't just an accident. The way you were hit, I really thought there was no way you'd survive. I even saw the car speed away. I didn't know if I should call for help or... or what to do. I was scared, and..." Her voice faltered as her eyes avoided Emma's. "I thought it would be the last time I'd see you."
Emma frowned. "You didn't know if you should call for help?" She sneered. "So, what are you saying right now? That I was supposed to die that night and you didn't help me?" She narrowed her eyes, scrutinizing every expression on Melissa's face.
The fact that she didn't remember anything from that night baffled her. Maybe if she tried hard enough, the memories would come back, like the pieces that had returned before. But for now, she decided to act as though she really had lost her memories.
