No Romance, Please

Fate or accident? I don't know what it was. It played a cruel trick in my life and one day, I was not living anymore. I died! I got transmigrated into my favourite novel, ‘Romance, Please’! (Ok, I agree that it's not a good title but still, I used to love this story.) In the book universe, I pretended to be a princess, started to live in the palace, and even got my very own platinum tiara. I lived much better than in my previous life. But I had to pay the price... The book I loved the most wanted me dead, just for the sake of another character’s development. I had to die in two years, again for the story to progress. Should I wait and watch for the plot to kill me? That's not me! I just chose to rewrite the novel from scratch, together with the villain. Fates started to change. I was made into a queen, the sole ruler of my kingdom. Then again, I had to pay the price. This time it was to sacrifice my love. Plot twist, No Romance, Please, cause it's injurious to health. ************************************************************ Warning: This is a twisted, erratic, nonsensical romance book.

A Woman's Intution

A woman's intuition is trustable, especially when it comes to the man she loves. I had always trusted my instincts. This time, my instinct disclosed to me something delightful.

That day when Victor's tantalizing gaze fell on me for the umpteenth time, I was almost sure about his affection towards me. There can be no other reason for his gaze to linger on me that long. Not to mention, Flora was also there. He didn't look in her direction. Not even once. I was not stupid enough to still believe that he loves Flora. I'm not one of the naive female leads from a romance book anyway.

I was happy, contended, and excited. Who wouldn't be?

Victor was the kind of guy who would only fall in love once in his lifetime. He was the most loyal character in "Romance, please". If I managed to get him as my lover, it would be a jackpot. Still, it was not something trouble-free. But then, it seemed like I have surpassed all the troubles.

Though that is a novel universe, Victor is still a man. Since the plot had already changed, his feelings could change as well. From what happened between us, I still had hope.

With that excitement, I looked around to find out whether my maids were also aware of this. Those two seemed busy with their dancing practices. I left out a sigh of relief as I turned to the nuisance in that hall. To my dismay, she was looking at me. When she met with my gaze, she promptly turned to Victor with mocking eyes, then looked at me again with the same sickening expression.

Though I was aghast at first, swiftly I recovered. I frowned thinking how dare she behaves that way towards me, the princess of Astrana. Though she may be Edward's fiancee. Still, I had more power there in Astrana at that time.

At that time, I realized that even though I keep running away from her, she would find an excuse to kill me since that was in her blood. Otherwise, why did she appear at my door this morning?

I was aware that her evil gaze had eclipsed me already when I saw her at my door this morning. What I didn't expect was that it was trying to obscure Victor. I chose to ignore her behaviour early in the morning but not anymore. I, the princess of Astrana didn't like it.

Also, she never really cared about her brother in the book. She only used him as her puppet. Judging from her personality, my actions shouldn't affect her as long as they had no relation to Edward.

If she thought I was cheating on her brother, let it be. I did not need to explain myself to her since she never asked me in the first place.

First things first, I've never considered James as my fiance. Secondly, nobody asked my opinion about this engagement. Thirdly, I never agreed to marry him. Finally, her brother was not a man of dignity.

She must have known all along what kind of a perv her brother is. It was a sin that they were forcing me to marry such a scum. Despite knowing all these, she dared to laugh at me? I wouldn't have minded it if she stopped there. She dared to direct a scornful look at my Victor, for a second time that day.

I was already incandescent but this woman had decided to make things even more complicated.

From where she was standing, she stepped forward in Victor's direction. I frowned and closely observed what she was about to do.

Victor too followed my gaze and understood her intent. Judging from his expression, I could say that he needed my help since he wouldn't punch a woman. Still, I waited to see what drama she was about to create.

She stopped in front of Victor and snapped her finger twice in a disdainful manner. "Fetch me some water!" she said.

I frowned further since I was at a loss of words. This was the first time for me to see someone so stupid as her. The fact that she was stupid enough to shove her hand into the lion's mouth was amazing enough. She insisted on pulling its teeth as well. I was confused since she was nothing like the Evelyn I read in the novel.

Knowing Victor, and his temper very well, I patiently waited to see what would happen next. He didn't disappoint me.

He didn't move an inch from where he was standing. Also, he didn't even turn his head to look at her. I suddenly remembered the way Victor derided James a few days ago. I just wanted to see how he would handle her.

"Guard, are you deaf?" she asked. I was so amused and amazed by the similarity she and James had. Still, it bothered me since Evelyn should be the total opposite of James.

"...." Victor remained calm focusing on a faraway spot.

"You!" she stomped once then helplessly turned to the crowd.

"You all saw that, right? Is this how you treat the future queen of Astrana?" she dragged herself to the centre of the hall. "Your Highness!" she turned to me.

I was already annoyed since she was demeaning my only love. Though Victor had already pledged his loyalty to me and has been working as my guard, I never spoke that way towards him.

In that world, I was once ready to go to any extent to live well. But Victor was something I can never compromise on. I can never stay patient when someone plays with his pride.

Victor was someone who's protected me and stood by my side. He was the first person who made me feel secure. I'm not losing him to her evil plans.

I clicked my tongue thrice as I looked at her. "The future is always unpredictable, princess Evelyn," I said. "Please hold your horses before calling yourself a queen," I said looking straight into her eyes.

After saying this, even I was surprised at my courage. It was a big achievement from my side. Though I chose to raise a war flag against Evelyn in the twinkling of an eye, I started to feel like it was a good move.

We can't always retreat. There will always be a point where you'll have to fight back instead of backing off. I thought it was a good decision since I am in power then. I can't do this after Evelyn becomes the crown princess.

This had already created a few giggles in that crowd. A few expressed pity towards her as well. Her face visibly darkened.

"Shhhh... Show some respect to princess Evelyn" I turned and warned them just to annoy her.

"Now, can we continue the practice?" I asked then suddenly paused. "Oh, I forgot. You wanted water..." I turned to Victor. "Victor, please bring some water for me and the princess" I told him with a smile.

I heard a few chattering behind my back.

"See, Her Highness is noble."

"Yes, she treats everyone with respect."

"She got a nice personality," at this point, I had to try my best to hold my laughter.

"She is an angel."

"She's amazing," though half of those cheesy comments were deliberately made to get on my good side, I chose to utilize them.

I turned to those chatterboxes and raised my voice so it could reach Evelyn as well.

"Treating people with due respect has nothing to do with personality. It is a basic manner every human should have," I said purposely looking at Evelyn.

I was very well aware that I was getting on her nerves. Still, I continued with that as I was very angry.

When I went back to the place where I was standing before, Victor walked across the hall to bring us some water. Despite people gawking at him and Evelyn, his gaze fell on me. There was appreciation in his eyes and a faint smirk on his lips. Soon, that smirk had caught my lips as well.

After that, until he returned, Evelyn remained silent. She was probably plotting the time and method to kill me. Thus I had decided to tighten my security and ask for Edward's help.

When Victor came back with water canteens, I received them from him and handed them over to Evelyn. Victor then walked back to where he was standing before and stayed there. This time, I didn't hesitate to dance well. Despite my moves being bad, I could still feel Victor's gaze falling on me, once in a while.

Not only his. I felt Evelyn gawking at both of us. I could only smirk at her being nosy even after all that happened. To teach her a very good lesson, I looked at Victor, when nobody was watching us, except Evelyn. At that moment, he widened his eyes and raised his brows, since he assumed I was going to give him a command.

He was indeed cute that way. It was the first time I noticed how adorable he was. Because of it, I couldn't stop myself from doing something flirtatious. I have originally intended to smile at him, but because of it, I changed my mind.

I continued to look at him for three more seconds with a smile, then winked at him once, leaving both Victor and Evelyn shell-shocked.

Dear friends,

Happy Valentine's Day!!!
