6. First day of work

I am relieved when I come back this morning to find Devan gone. After what went down yesterday morning, everything has been akward. He left the house only to return late and he left early like he always does. I am very sure he is avoiding me this time as I am avoiding him. It is for the best, no?

I couldn't stop thinking about what happened or what would have happened if he hadn't pulled away. Was I that horny? Can't I resist the guy I can't have? His eyes, his touch, his body, I can feel the goosebumps on my body just thinking about it now. I don't want to complicate my life more than it already is because I can't control my body. Sighing and rinsing the cup in the sink, I place it on the rack.

The taxi takes half an hour to reach my new work place. I am both nervous and excited for my first day here. Catching up on the lift that is half full, I breathe hard. Anything can happen today but I only hope only good things happen.

When I reach the thirty eighth floor, I greet Doug ethusiastically.

"I am glad it is you who got that job." Doug smiles.

"Thanks."

"You deserved it. Mr. McCain is expecting you in his office now." he grins.

I waste no minute before I make it to the big office.

"Ms. Jacobs. Congratulations." he smiles.

"Thank you. I appreciate you for entrusting me with this position. I won't let you down." I say.

"Let me count you on that." he murmurs before the door opens.

"Nice of you to join us Debbie. Can you show Ms Jacob's around?" he addresses a tall petite woman with the red frames covering her eyes.

"This way madam." she leads me outside the door.

Debbie shows me around the office. She is quite chatty and fun to be around which makes me think that she would make an ally.

"And here is your work station." she stops at the well equipped booth.

"That over there is Mike, the brown head is Quentin and please stay away from Maggie, she will contaminate your mind with super heroes." Debbie whispers the last part.

"I will be fine."

"Your ID will be ready in due time and please make yourself feel at home. Feel free to come to me when you need anything." she winks at the last part before she leaves. I look around the place smiling at the curious stares before I take a seat at my new work place. Here we go.

By the time lunch reaches, I am already friends with everyone even Magggie and I kind of love she is a fan of marvel. We slope down to the cafeteria to grab lunch and what I realise is how everyone is friends.

They have been discussing and gushing about Penny's upcoming bachelorette party that is in a week. She looks excited as everyone keeps teasing her.

"How about you Nellie, boyfriend?" Mike asks.

"Unfortunately I am not that lucky." I shrug.

"Welcome to the club then." Debbie grins.

The rest of the meal consists of discussions and arguments between Dave, the finance guy and Maggie. I just think it is the sexual tension between them causing all this havoc. And it is like everyone knows except them. Who would have a big argument about coffee and tea like eight year olds?

By the time I reach the house, I am exhausted and happy about how my day went. All I need now is a good meal to sum up the day and a beauty sleep. After taking off the heels and changing into some comfy sweats and a tank top, I saunter to the kitchen.

The fridge is already stocked with everything I need for tonight and I don't waste time applying my skills. Within forty five minutes supper is done. That is before I hear the front door open and after a while closes. It could only be one person and that is the last person I want to see right now.

He heads right to his room because I hear his shoe click advance further away upstairs. He might be as hungry as I am so I serve both plates with chicken and kale risotto. I sit down on the chair in the kitchen eating quietly until I realise Devan didn't come back down. Are we really doing the whole ignore thing now?

What happened, happened. If he is going to be a child about it, I am going to be the adult and save us time. I don't know if it is even a good idea to go see him now nevertheless I have already set my head and right now I am heading to his room with his food.

I knock timidly on the door before it opens after a few seconds. Thank God today he is dressed. When my stare meets him, the words get stuck on my tongue. It is either his eyes or that he looks really good. Did I think of that now?

"Food?"

That is the only thing I come up with my hazed brain. I force a smile on my lips. Devan stares at me skeptically before he grabs the food from my hands. He took his food, that is a step.

"Thanks." he murmurs lowly in a tired tone.

I stand at the door for another ten seconds hoping for him to say anything else but he doesn't. Are we pretending that nothing happened? Well I am not or else the guilt and the tension will kill me before Rachel does.

"Do you need anything else?" Devan asks calmy.

"No." I declare quickly. What am I doing? This is the chance to actually talk about this.

"Yes actually." I add quickly before he closes the door. Devan narrows his gaze at me.

"Uhm. About yesterday..."

"I didn't mean to." he intervenes suddenly.

"I am sorry how yesterday went down. That was really so inappropriate of me and I promise there won't be a repeat it again. I hope we are okay Nellie. Good night." he closes the door.

I stare blankly at the closed door. O-kay. What the hell just happened? At least we addressed the matter and he apologized. Why is he even apologising in the first place? I would be a hypocrite to say that I didn't like what happened.

Even though it is wrong, why did it feel so right. I need to get laid in the fastest time possible.
