Chapter 47: Game Over?

Akira brought out a potion and chugged it as Toji made no effort to stop him, as if he was amused. No matter, it was more advantageous to him that way.

The shadow under Akira seemingly grew agitated as it bubbled like it was boiling. Akira focused on the template in his mind before bringing it to reality.

"Summon Undead: Skeleton Mage."

5 figures grew out of the shadow with pitch-black cloaks with gold lining and large black staves that had red gems. 5 level 110 Greater Skeleton Mages. But not just that 3 more skeleton Demons rose up from the shadows alongside Alpha.

The mages shot out clouds of death, balls of flame, lances of darkness and everything in between as the skeleton demons tried to restrain Toji for Alpha to get a proper shot.

Even Toji was struggling under the onslaught of the dozens of undead. He got hit with a stray death bolt but shrugged it off. But with every swing of his weapon, an undead or several fell. His fan was still cooling down so he did not have the ability to do any AOE.

But even then, the monster that was Toji Fushiguro seemed unstoppable as he bulldozed through the spells with his grossly large physical stats and innate magic resistance.

Suddenly Akira raised his hand.

"Summon Undead: Skeleton Horde." Instead of strong undead, he summoned several dozen level 10 to 15 undead that rushed Toward Toji in an effort to overwhelm him. All the while he had to deal with the fairly strong punches of Alpha and a cloud of death that was starting to develop around him from the mages relentless onslaught.

Suddenly Toji felt a prick at the back of his neck and trusting his instincts he broke out of the pile of skeletons forcefully and jumped away in time to avoid the giant green fireball. Doing a fast spin he repeatedly parried the icicle lances that were shot out.

Reaching into the cursed spirit on his shoulder he pulled out a broad katana with a fur guard before doing a spinning slash that threw all the skeletons around him including Alpha back.

Using the opportunity, Toji sent the weapon back before dashing into a building.

Within seconds his traces were gone, meaning he had sent the cursed spirit back. Tracking Toji was already difficult with a cursed weapon, without it he may as well be invisible.

After a few seconds, Akira suddenly felt a mass of cursed energy signatures. Like a cloud blotting out the air. He found out the cause shortly after as tens of thousands of tiny flying cursed spirits flooded the street.

Akira undeterred had his mages create necrotic clouds around himself. Creating clouds around himself may be a bad idea but they gave him more visibility than the cursed spirits did. After all his minor X-ray still worked.

But suddenly, Akira felt his connection with his undead severed. They instantly were sent right back to his shadow somehow. Panicked Akira's mind ran at extreme speeds, they hadn't perished for some reason, just forcibly unsummoned.

Regardless, Akira pinpointed the location they had been unsummoned at and released the Burning Sea he had been charging for several dozen seconds after drinking yet another magic potion.

The giant ball of seething crimson nearly enveloped the entire road. Cars melted around it and the asphalt boiled. Any cursed spirit within 5 meters died instantly and all the rest flew away in fear.

But.

But...

But before his very eyes, the giant ball of brimstone flames just... vanished. And at that moment Akira's eyes widened and he felt that chill dwell in his spine.

'Inverted Spear of Heaven...!'

Just the mere appearance of that weapon had simply tilted the stakes in Toji's favour, no, it had all but stomped out all chances Akira had at winning.

Just the flow of cursed energy from it gave off a sense of unease to Akira, that unease was proven to be right as Toji went up to speeds Akira could barely track while disabling his summons left and right.

Spells wouldn't work the best, any spell flung will be disabled along with its immediate effects like the flames from burning sea. Just as Toji was about to rush Akira however...

'What about the after-effects?!'

Akira stomped one foot on the ground before forcefully wringing his cursed energy dry to create a weaker Burning Sea on the spot and slammed it down onto the pavement. Sending tonnes of red-hot debris flying toward Toji yet he did not slow down at all as he easily navigated around them and reached Akira.

As they were about to be face to face Akira's face hardened as his shadow spit out a weapon behind him that Toji wouldn't be able to snatch, and boosted by Dash and CE Enhancement Akira was able to grab the weapon and swing it fast enough.

A misshapen shortsword carved from ice.

"Icy Burst!"

With his swing a mighty wave of freezing energy was released from the short misshapen ice blade sent Toji back while freezing nearly the entirety of the city block.

Toji was surprised by the attack but for a different reason.

"It isn't getting cancelled out?"

Since the icy burst wasn't an actual skill spell or complex construct of cursed energy but rather a wave of raw and simple icy energy. The spear was useless against it.

Having deduced this Toji ducked into a building to avoid getting any further frostbite than the layer of ice on his skin and prepared to end this fight.

But.

"ICY BURST!" The entire building shook as a raging blizzard slammed onto it making it start to collapse. If he didn't manage to run away soon he would be buried in a snow grave.

Akira was an annoying enemy. Too much range and versatility he seemed weak to the inverted spear of heaven but that cursed tool was seriously dangerous seeing how it enveloped an entire city block in a layer of frost.

If Toji got caught in that with no retreat it may put him in a bad position. Just as he was about to duck to another building he heard several sounds of glass crashing before black enveloped his position and burning his skin.

"Poison?"

What Akira threw was his entire stock of withering poisons. Since it wasn't a technique or contained enough cursed energy Toji wouldn't be able to dispel it, giving him yet another curtain of protection against Toji.

If the gas reached Toji's lungs it would start gnawing away at his lungs and with no way to fix that his combat ability would go down significantly.

...Or not that motherfucker was built different, it may just be a simple inconvenience for him. But it's worth a try.

He tried not to think about the hundreds of dollars he just threw as a projectile.

The best thing he could hope fo was a battle of attrition. It was Akira with the superspeed regeneration, not Toji. He also still had a dozen potions burning a hole through his pockets.

Now with the curtain of smog around himself, Akira started charging up a burning sea with his remaining cursed energy as he drank yet another potion. It felt like burning sewage water and its efficiency was at 40% but it would have to do.

He still had another charge of Icy Burst. If he could manage to stab Toji with it it would be game over Toji. He should hold the cards here. He could do this.

*BOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!*

A gigantic gust of wind carrying sharp gales swept out from the building and cleared the smog and icy mist around Akira as well as wounding with the wind blades. But it wasn't just that.

'Fuck!' Akira couldn't help but swear as he felt Toji's cured energy signature get cut. Meaning he went invisible once more. Pushing his perception to the limit by pouring Cursed Energy into his eyes Akira waited for Toji to emerge.

His eyes darted left and right, even above. With how much debris there were the only reasonable attacking position was either from above or from where the gust came from. Even Toji wouldn't be able to see through this much dust mixed with necrotic energy.

But contrary to his expectations Toji appeared from behind as he dashed out of the blackish cloud, wearing a gas mask and wielding a sturdy-looking steel short sword that barely held cursed energy that he couldn't sense due to the remnants of the fan.

Even though he was barely able to perceive him Akira reactivated Dash and turned to face him with two fingers pointed to release the trigger on the burning sea but it was useless.

Because this entire time...

Toji was holding back.

Just as the flame was forming on Akira's fingers...

*Chop!*

Toji chopped his arm in half as he moved at speeds Akira couldn't track with a manic smile under his gas mask.

It happened so fast he couldn't comprehend it. All he could sense was his arm flying away, and pain, so much pain. But before his shock could subside.

*Slice!*

Another blindingly fast and accurate brutal swing of the killer's instrument has passed through his bowels, tearing apart his midriff and disembowelling him. At this point, his vision was mostly white.

*Slice!*

Yet another swing, this time tearing at his knees. Making him fall to his knees. Toji stepped on the thigh of the kneeling Akira drawing out a pained groan before pulling on his hair and making the glassy-eyed Akira face him while removing his gas mask and smirking.

"Seems like I haven't lost my edge after all"

*Stab!*

Toji plunged his large short sword all the way through Akira's chest and heart before kicking him off the blade and swishing the sword to remove the blood.

He had left behind Akira's mutilated body and thrown it aside like a worthless piece of garbage.

Toji Fushiguro had once again proven himself against the Jujutsu world.

A monkey like him had taken down one of the most dangerous Sorcerers alive.

...So then why did this not feel right?
