Promise

"Hahaha! You know, for a kid, you sure are confident." The man in black let out a loud laugh before immediately regaining the serious expression he had just a second ago. "But this isn't going to be the playground fighting that you're used to, little boy!"

"That's quite a lot of talk coming from someone hiding behind his subordinates," Lin Chen spoke with a sneer.

The man in black curved his lips a bit, and he took a few steps forward with a proud expression. The man focused his gaze towards Lin Chen and spoke while shrugging his shoulders. "Oh, I'm really not good with kids. But don't worry though…" The man in black snapped his fingers, and following the action of the man in black, all the mysterious men who were surrounding him released their deadly aura at the same time, and Lin Chen squinted his eyes. The combined menacing aura that was produced by these thugs was just like a powerful storm that was about to swallow everything up.

[ He didn't fall for your provocation. So you probably won't be able to catch him off guard if he really does end up making a move afterwards. ]

The boar demon explained its thoughts, and Lin Chen clicked his tongue, dissatisfied by the results. 'I know, I know…' He then assumed a combat stance before whispering softly under his breath. "... I guess there's only one thing I can do now!"

"Look out!" The man in black screamed to his subordinates, but by then, it was already too late.

The inner qi had undergone a chemical reaction as it passed through Lin Chen's body, transforming into true energy, which was as sharp as a blade!

BAM!

The bright light slammed onto one of the subordinates' chest, and the collision between the true energy and the human body produced loud exploding sounds, resulting in the man's shirt being ripped apart by the attack, pushing the man back a few steps before stopping.

"Lee Hao!" One of the other subordinates called out to the man with a voice filled with concern, but the man didn't respond, and after wobbling for a few seconds, he fell down onto the ground with a loud noise.

THUD!

"Is he dead?" Another subordinate asked with a shocked expression, and just then, Lin Chen appeared right behind him and swung his fist straight down, aiming for his head as he answered the man's question. "Why don't you ask him yourself?"

"Behind you!" The man in black responded with a swing of his hands, which sent forward a ferocious shockwave in Lin Chen's direction.

BAM!

But before the shockwave could reach him, Lin Chen's powerful punch had already smashed onto the back of the man's head, resulting in his skull being caved in before his brain was crushed.

Whoosh!

As soon as he landed the hit, Lin Chen immediately leapt up into the air, evading the man in black's attack by a millisecond before landing a few meters away.

"You bastard!" Another subordinate charged at him as soon as he landed, swinging his hand and aiming straight for Lin Chen's neck as a large sword, buzzing with a powerful aura, manifested in his hands.

Lin Chen bit his lips with annoyance before he raised his hand, and a halberd materialized in the middle of the sword's trajectory, blocking the blade before it could come into contact with Lin Chen's body!

BOOM!

The two weapons collided, which resulted in a ferocious force that pushed the two men backwards.

"I've got you!" As Lin Chen flung backwards, attempting to find his footing, another one of the subordinates rushed in his direction with a sinister smile and swung a long whip that was buzzing with energy straight at him.

Swoosh!

Lin Chen was in the middle of using his halberd to block the attack when he noticed a different subordinate who was fast approaching him in the corner of his eye.

He then twisted the halberd in his hands as the whip swung towards him.

Swish!

The whip hit the halberd, producing a bright light and a loud noise before tying around the weapon tightly, and Lin Chen, utilizing all his strength, pulled the halberd back, pulling the thug into the air along with it.

"Shit!" The thug could only scream as he was lifted into the air, and Lin Chen then threw the halberd right at the other subordinate who was running towards him.

WHAM!

The subordinate, who saw the fast approaching halberd, quickly raised his two daggers up to his chest in order to block the attack, but to his surprise, the halberd broke through the two daggers effortlessly, shattering it into pieces before piercing into the man's chest, causing him to cough out blood as he crash landed onto the ground with a loud noise.

"Motherfucker!" An angry voice entered into Lin Chen's ear, and he quickly rushed to the side, narrowly avoiding a powerful blade strike.

He then turned around and saw the subordinate with the sword glaring right at him, gritting his teeth before charging in his direction.

"Take this!" He yelled loudly as he swung his sword, but Lin Chen simply leaned sideways to avoid the attack before summoning the halberd once again and slicing through the guy's abdomen with intense force!

"GAAAAH!" The man screamed in agony before he fell to his knees, and Lin Chen swung his halberd once again, this time aiming for his neck.

"Stop!" The presence of a familiar shockwave made Lin Chen halt his actions midway and leapt up into the air right before the powerful wave of energy struck the air.

Lin Chen landed on the ground a few feet away, but before he could even raise his head to get a good look at his surroundings, he was met with a powerful kick, aiming right for his face!

BAM!

The huge clash echoed in the air as Lin Chen was pushed back a few steps.

"Blocked it, huh? You're quick." The man in black spoke calmly as he lowered his legs and patted his knees. "But I'm not letting you hurt more of my men. I want to keep at least one of them alive."

"Well then, I guess you're in for a disappointing day!" Lin Chen lowered his hands and wiped the blood that was dripping out from his mouth as he spoke in a condescending tone.

The man in black seemed confused for a second before he immediately turned around to look at the injured subordinate, only to find him lying on the ground, dead.

The man in black shifted his piercing gaze back onto Lin Chen, asking, "Poison?"

Lin Chen shrugged in response. "Why should I tell you?"

The man in black's eyebrows twitched, as an irritated smile appeared on his face "Hah! I guess I won't be able to keep the promise I made to my client anymore!"
