Rescue Mission

The second shinobi war had dealt a huge blow to the manpower of the five great shinobi nations, what this did was open holes in the security and control these nations had over their borders allowing the small nations that had always stayed in shadows with their heads down to finally emerge.

Every man had a dream and every leader had an ambition, be it to get more resources or to make their nation the strongest. Now that the five great nations were busy licking their wounds, trying to recover from the recent Second shinobi war it was their best chance to fulfill their ambitions.

Of course no nation wanted to be left behind in the race of power, some wanted to conquer while some simply wanted to defend, so every nation mobilized the ninjas and war potential they had leading the borders to become chaotic skirmish zones.

But these nations had severely underestimated the might of the Great shinobi nations.

The five great nations were great for a reason, even though they had fewer manpower left after the second war they were still strong and they did not want these nations to think otherwise.

All the five great nations mobilized their ninja trying to suppress these skirmishes, in turn leading to more skirmishes and the death and hate to brew.

The skirmish slowly turned into large battles with many men, women and children dying everyday.

The fire nation had the biggest territory and therefore had a bigger area they had to defend and control so the pressure on Konoha the village hidden in the leaves was massive.

They who were already strained with having to fight on so many fronts finally started an all out war after the other great nations started to eye the fire nations borders, and so did the other nations wanting to decide the hierarchy once and for all.

All nations fought and bled.

And The Third Great Ninja War began.

Konoha

Four months have passed since our team was formed, while Kakashi decided to learn more earth and lighting style jutsu, the elements he had the best affinity with I decided to focus on something else.

The atmosphere in the village was pretty somber these days as a lot of the ninjas were dying on the battlefield everyday, many houses were filled with wailing sounds and the manpower of the village was decreasing as time passed.

Is that why they had finally decided to send our team on a rescue mission, a team with two five year olds? How annoying, i would rather stay in the village and learn more.

...I doubt it though, maybe we are are just going there to pick up the bodies.

I think Minato is the only one out of us who could be of any help.

*swoosh* *swoosh* *swoosh*

We ran past the trees at high speed towards the location of our mission, apparently some of our ninjas were encircled and were being pursued by the enemy and we had to help them retreat as they seemed to have some important information.

"Stop"

*tak* *tak* *tak*

At Minato's command both of us stopped in our tracks following Minato.

Are the enemies nearby?

I changed my chakra to sensory mode and focused as i made a ram seal, yes this is something that had focused on learning during these few months chakra sensing.

...Nothing, there's nothing at least within my sensing range which is around 300m.

"Ten enemies, five allies and two of them are injured." I looked at Minato with a somewhat defeated expression who sensed everything so precisely.

"Don't be depressed Rei you will be able to do it soon, for now focus on the mission. I will go ahead and help our allies while you guys follow me from behind, don't jump into the fight blindly since you are not here to fight, just to help carry the wounded if any, lets go."

He said with a serious face and disappeared in the next moment, his focused and serious face during the mission was in stark contrast to his smiling one that he always had in the village.

Kakashi and I looked with wide eyes as Minato disappeared into the distance while we blinked.

"I knew it." I sighed as I sped up in the direction Minato had gone.

"Knew what, that he was so fast?" Kakashi asked curiously as he followed alongside me.

"That we are here to pick up bodies?" I shrugged my shoulders and made a face that said wasn't it obvious while Kakashi looked at me dumbfounded.
