Mystic Thief

Seventeen-year-old Devon Oasis became an orphan at the tender age of seven when his parents fell victim to an invasion. The tragedy occurred after their rival kingdom, Feuer, stole the power crystals that energized the defensive pillars of Devon's home kingdom, Audaznimo. The kingdom of Audaznimo was attacked on the same night the crystals were stolen, although the assault did not originate from Feuer. Audaznimo, having placed unwavering trust in the impregnable defense of the pillars, had let their guard down. Unfortunately, the pillars failed, resulting in a massacre of innocent lives. The method by which Feuer managed to dismantle the supposedly impenetrable towers remained a mystery to all. Although Audaznimo managed to push back the invaders, it was too late—the damage was already done. Devon, having lost his parents during the invasion, was fortunate to find solace with his uncle, the leader of a theft gang within the kingdom. Initially hesitant to involve his nephew in their illicit activities, Devon's uncle ultimately decided to impart his knowledge, believing it would benefit his nephew in various ways. Thus, Devon was introduced to the clandestine world of thievery. He became a part of the group, a group of young people of similar ages who had to steal to be able to sustain the orphanage. They were always reminded by his uncle that they were only stealing to make sure they survived at the orphanage since the kingdom didn't care about them and went on to lay out certain morals for them as thieves. However, Devon found those morals to be pointless because he had grown to love the thrill of stealing, the great sensation that came from being chased after taking someone's possessions. If there was anything he wanted, he was going to take it no matter what because to him, upholding morals as a thief was pointless and his fate as a thief was already sealed. Excerpt: "You know this is a B-ranked mission so Emilia will go with you and please try not to do anything careless?" His uncle's words rang in his mind as he freely tumbled down the hill of sand and when he finally hit the floor, he lost consciousness. [ Host is active ] [ System rebooting ] "What's going on?" He groaned as he sat up on the floor and pulled out the knife that was stuck on the left side of his abdomen, he was bleeding but surprisingly, he couldn't focus on that. [ Reboot completed ] [ Hello, Devon ] [ Your Master Thief System Is Active ] "What the heck is going on?" After mumbling those words, his vision slowly began to fade until he crashed down to the floor and passed out. What he obtained that day was a system that aligned perfectly with his major goal in life. "If all I have to do to become better at stealing is to keep stealing then that means I'm never going to stop for anything or anyone." ______ The story is going to start out a bit slow paced but I assure you that you're in for a ride because it won't take long before everything speeds up and the plot starts to get revealed bit by bit, enjoy! Chapter Thirty Eight: Wrong Idea

"You still haven't answered my question." Devon retorted before slowly sitting down on his bed.

"Huh? You still need an answer to that question?" She replied before uncrossing her legs to get up on her feet. "Well, if it still isn't obvious to you, I teleported."

There was no way anyone would be able to tell that she was a princess with the way she was dressed now.

She was putting on a black tunic to go with her black pants and boots and her hair was loose now as some of the strands were running down the left side of her face.

"I know that, but how? You haven't been in my room before so there's no way you would have known what it looks like or…."

"So, that's how your teleportation works. You need to visualize the place you want to go first." She interjected.

"Uh, yeah, and how does yours work?" He replied before backing up against the wall.

"Well, unlike your teleportation which is still strange to me because it doesn't seem to be a spell and you don't have a mark on your neck either."

"So you teleport with spells," Devon interjected.

"Yeah." She replied with a nod before turning her gaze to the door and then back to him.

"Okay, but how does that work?"

"It's pretty simple, I just mark something with my teleportation spell, and no matter how far away that thing moves from me, I'll be able to get to it with just a snap." She explained before snapping her hand and before Devon knew it she was back on the cupboard.

"Wait, mark something." He stuttered with a stunned look on his face as that wave of realization suddenly hit him. "You did it when you took my bag, didn't you?"

"Mhm." She responded with a nod. "Did you really think I was going to let you leave without setting up a means to find you later?"

He didn't even pay any attention to what she just said because he was busy trying to find the seal on his bag.

"Just where did you put this spell mark of yours?" He asked as he turned his around and inside out trying to find the spell mark.

"Is that really all you're bothered about right now?" She asked after letting out a sigh.

"Yeah, I want to see what the spell mark looks like so that I'll be able to identify it next time and then you'll have to remove it, I don't want you appearing around me unannounced." He replied. "What if I was changing now and you just popped in here?"

"Did you consider that when you teleported to my room last night?"

"I didn't teleport to your room, I teleported to the window." He denied.

"It was open, you would have still seen everything."

"No, I would have quickly hidden behind the wall because I'm not that much of a pervert to risk getting caught." He retorted.

"You know I find that hard to believe when you have the ability to become invisible, a pervert's dream ability but let's just end that there, I didn't come here to argue with you." She expressed before getting up from the cupboard.

"Then why are you here?"

The fact that she was somehow able to find him was irking him, he knew there was no way he was going to be able to hide from her especially when he was in Audaznimo but he didn't like the idea of her being able to get to him this easily.

"Oh, I just came to see how you were doing." She replied.

He was about to interpret that as something else when she suddenly pushed her hair back to reveal the frostflake mark on her neck.

'Oh, yeah, her ability is ice. Wait, ice has a bright color.'

"That was you back in the forest, wasn't it?" He remarked with his gaze still fixed on her.

"Huh?"

"That attack when the bear was coming toward me, that was you." He maintained.

"Hmph, took you long enough to figure that out." She affirmed with a smile now on her face.

"Oh, I see," Devon muttered before slowly turning his gaze away from her.

"What's wrong?" She asked after sensing the sudden drop in his voice.

"I was just thinking about that little girl that got killed this morning, something I would have already forgotten about if you didn't keep on showing up in front of me."

"What are you trying to say?"

"Her mother was trying to get her to shut up but then you stopped her from doing that and ordered the little girl to speak up, she was killed just after saying everything she said about the black market. They also tried to assassinate you but you somehow managed to survive.

"That's something you should be looking into right now yet here you are chasing me around not because you give a damn about me but because of this dual mana that I somehow have, investigating what happened this morning is less important because the little girl's life does…."

"That's enough." Elena snapped just before he could finish that and her words weren't the only thing she used.

She had an ice spear in her hand now and its tip was directly against his throat.

'Maybe I shouldn't have gone that far.'

She had her gaze on the floor now with no movement and no word coming from her.

Devon was expecting her to do something else after pointing that spear at him although he knew she wouldn't go as far as attempting to kill him but this was odd.

After waiting for a couple of seconds without getting any reaction from her, he slowly shifted the spear away from his face half expecting her to quickly jump on him but there was still no reaction from her.

He even went as far as pulling the spear out from her hand and that was when he got a reaction from her which was just pulling her hand back.

"What the heck?" He muttered under his breath. "Umm…princess."

He was just about to try and raise her head when a drop of liquid slowly dropped down from there to the floor and that came as quite a shock to him.

"You're crying?" He muttered with a shocked expression on his face.

"I'm sorry for doing that, I have to go now." She sniffled.

"Wait."

He tried to reach for her but just before his hand could get to her, she was already gone.

"She was crying." He muttered with a regretful look on his face now.

However, he wasn't able to think much about that because someone came knocking on his door.

He quickly slid the ice spear in his hand under his bed before quickly getting on the bed.

"Who's that?"

"It's me, Erina."

"Oh, Erina, it's open."

Just after hearing him say that, she slowly pushed the door open to walk into the room with a small wooden box in her hand.

"Aurora told me that you got hurt during your mission and was going to come see me soon but I've been waiting and you're not there yet." She scolded before moving a little closer to him.

"I know, it's just that I'm really tired." He replied before forcing out a yawn. "It was just a scratch on my arm, it's not that serious compared to the stab from that spider at least."

"Just when will you stop getting yourself into these kinds of situations?" She sighed before placing the box she was holding on the bed.

She was about to sit down and open it when something caught her attention, something on the floor.

"Devon." She called before slowly bending down. "Why is this in your room?" She asked before raising something to show him.

It was a piece of ice just the size of her middle finger.

'That must have fallen off from the spear, this day just keeps getting better.' He sighed inwardly.

He had his gaze on what she was showing him but an explanation for that was going to be hard.
